Longford in the bottom half of average attendence despite leading the division. What's it gonna take to get more people in the door?
worse crowds than Wexford and Athlone?

The First Divisions crowds will be in the toilet (even more than normal) by the end of the season.

At least this way ther'll be enough toilets to cope with the 'crowds'
:(

attendance was apparently 64 with 31 paying in. I take it that that is how many supporters waterford brought, truely shocking stuff. LOI is suffering a painful death in Galway.

And there was around 150 at the Galway & DL First Division Cup Final last night. That's not even the top junior division. Plus, it was on a Wednesday. Had it been on the weekend, there would have been a fair few more. AND it was a fiver in, so they would have collected more on the gate than Salthill Devon. If Devon aren't paying any rent, which would hardly be a surprise, the Galway FA need to support local football somehow.

Looking at Mons, I'm not even sure that works. I'll be interested to see how many turn up at your place for the Limerick game in a few weeks (provided its still first vs second).

I don't know - there's at least a lapsed support to potentially come back. It was an encouraging start attendance wise, but it hasn't really kicked on. And to be honest I wouldn't be expecting a massive improvement until the final series to be honest - the summer months are the worst for attendances for us (well for the league in general, but rural clubs in particular). For all clubs in the first, the amount of travelling support can make a significant difference when your in and around the 300's. From what I could see there was 6 Wexford fans (although they didn't score so I could be doing a disservice), so that attendance was nearly all Longford. We won't be bringing too many to Waterford.

Will be of some consolation to fans visiting The Showgrounds if Sligo ever come down! :)

We're playing Millwall july the 18th apparently, that'll probably be our biggest gate of the season if we don't have a home tie in the FAI cup

And you tend to pick at anything that is said about the situation in Galway. Outlasted? We'll see if they last 35 years in senior soccer. He was just making a point that even junior games in Galway are attracting more people than Salthill Devon.

Yeah I reckon there was 1,482 paying in (including season tickets) and then a few more from the underage teams that were there for half time. Think there was 5 underage teams down tonight. Good crowd up from Cork as well

I'd rather be bitter than ignorant.

Plenty of valid reasons to be bitter.

Plenty happening in Galway anyway to correct the damage being caused once time is called on the madness.

In fairness to SD Galway I did a head count at kick off (I'm like that ;) ) and twas 94, stragglers probably brought it up to around 120. Definitely more Limerick than home fans there though, the whole of one side was Limerick and there was a few scattered in the main stand and at either end. Eerie sort of a place we were making random noises in the first half just to see how far they'd travel. (we're like that ;) )

There were a few in GUFC gear at that Limerick game last night too, presumably there just to count the crowd.

PS) I was amused/appalled that the GUFC crest on the sign down behind the goal was just covered with a sticker of the SD one.

Jesus, thats not great is it? I know our lack of traveling support wouldn't have helped but thought they'd have more than that, some very good attendances at the RSC this year I'm told.

The only good crowd we had over 500 was at the Wexford Youths game and Wexford brought probably a quarter of that crowd. Being stuck in the first division for a few years isn't good for the crowds.

Wouldn't even say there was that much, about 20 Bray fans and I'd say 650 to 700 at best. Love the way when you go in the season ticket gate now at Oriel its not even recorded, he just nods and lets you in!

Actually 326 at the Wexford/Finn Harps game last night according to the report on ExtraTime. Our average this season(discounting the Longford game as unknown attendence) is on the 384 mark. Not too bad but frustrating that people in Wexford don't come out, our county are a bunch of glory hunters.

I'm not sure I get the surprise at generally appauling 1st Division attendances. It gets zero coverage on what's supposed to be the LoI show, gets little print media coverage and we were even treated to a thread on here wanting it farmed off to a separate forum. Shock horror, clubs in the 1st struggle to get floating fan interest even when they're doing ok...

What can the showgrounds hold? Are sligo likely to have some sold out games in the showgrounds if they still are top towards end of the league?

Back in 2005 when they won the First Division their final game of the season against Athlone Town the attendance was 5,000 from what I remember.

Well, they've at least managed to breach the triple figure mark before. But I imagine their poor figures are just far more noticable this season in Terryland, when over 95% of the stadium is empty.

Well, we knew they wouldn't be good. I thought it would be in the 200-300 range mostly, due to a lot of people not really understanding what happened and that SD Galway are just Devon.

The attendances were terrible to start with, but they've nosedived again. I was pretty surprised myself. They literally have tried to pay people to go and that hasn't worked.

It was funny the amount of Limerick fans I know who genuinely didn't bother with tonight. Like my dad is busy this week, said he'd save himself for the important stuff Friday.

I must confess I went a little overboard with the celebrations when we scored hoping for a reaction from a few of the "Scousers" in attendance.

Irish city in having more supporters of massive English club than local club shocker. :bulgy:

Kids swarming on the field at the end to get the autographs of never will bes while two Irish internationals stood on the grass bank.

People coming into the shop all day looking for "Liverpool match" tickets.

On the plus side the set up in Jackman was decent in fairness.
