So, technically, Rovers are unseeded for round 2, but, they could possibly be seeded for round 3? Am I picking this up right?
Couple of very tough games though to get past first, and unless a goalkeeper is found, I don't see them passing one round unfortunately. Should do all they can to sign Gabriel Sava or someone along those lines in the transfer window.

The Draw for round 3 is made during the round 2 tie. So say we are playing Bate Borisov they will use their seeding in the draw.
eg. Bate/Rovers v Flora Tallinn/Ekranas
If a league of Ireland team was to ever get in to the playoffs now it would be by beating Helsingborg/Bate and being seeded in round 3

Would you not fancy your chances against Partizan again this season?

Dont know about Helsinborgs or Bate but the Lithuania and Latvia teams def are beatable
Dont know about Helsinborgs
Irish teams have beaten Swedish oppenents 4 of the last 6 times. All Rovers need is a keeper and a defence, and who knows?

The first and second rounds are drawn at the same time and the third round is drawn between the 2 legs of the second round, so the seedings in the 2nd & 3rd rounds are done on the assumption that the seeded teams for the previous round all qualify. Therefore, if an unseeded team beats a seeded team, they take their seeding into the next round, which may (or may not) lead to them being seeded in the subsequent round.

I'd give Rovers a decent shout against most of the lower seeded teams. Though there's some tough ones, even at that end of the seedings... As others have said, the Latvian/Lithuanian teams would be the pick. Maybe even Zestafoni.
Helsingborg IF Swe 12.680
Sheriff Tiraspol Mol 9.849
DVSC Debrecen Hun 7.950
NK Maribor Slo 6.424
FK Ventspils Lat 5.674
Slovan Liberec Cze 5.570
Slask Wroclaw Pol 5.483
HJK Helsinki Fin 5.326
AEL Limassol Cyp 5.099
Ekranas Panevezys Lit 4.875

I've been watching plenty of Polish football this year and that team Slask Wroclaw would walk over Rovers unfortunately, I fear it's going to be game over for Rovers after just one round, it'll be odd for them after last season.

Zestafoni win appeal, Shamrock Rovers unseeded.

Overall I think the league has done well to have Pats seeded in the first 2 rounds, Bohs the first.
Rovers could always get Helsingborgs, beating them takes their seeding for round 3. Latvia and Lithuania our hope.

Because chelsea won that first one.
And the wikipedia entry (correct year) makes no claims as to seeding.

With all the leagues concerned finished, it basically boiled down to Chelsea denying Rovers their seeding.

Frustrating but that's football. Only hope, very slim is Metalurgi's appeal. No news from it yet.
We could end up getting Latvia as opposed to getting Molde being seeded :)

Didn't Sligo benefit from a similar thing last year i.e Bumped up to Q3 from Q2 due to 2 Portugese teams in the EL final or something. Swings and roundabouts for the league I guess.

Kinda. Porto won the Europa in 10/11 but were entered in CL on 11/12 so the 'title holder' spot wasn't used. Ireland ranked 29th got the Cup winners bumped a round
This years champions league didn't see a change in the number of teams, just that Chelsea took a group spot from someone, which saw everyone else bump down a spot

The process begins to give some teams ease of access to EL group stage:
Under a new format, six teams have been given access straight to the group stage alongside holders Club Atlético de Madrid as the domestic cup winners in the top ranked nations. They are SSC Napoli, Olympique Lyonnais, A. Académica de Coimbra and FC Rubin Kazan plus Tottenham Hotspur FC and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, taking over the places that would have been filled by UEFA Champions League-bound Chelsea FC and Borussia Dortmund. Also in the group stage will be 31 play-off winners and ten sides beaten at that round of the UEFA Champions League.
Hope the draw works out for Irish clubs involved.

Think both games are scheduled to take place on the same ground in Iceland so there may be a change.
Draw's have been a total shambles today - 2nd round draw's ongoing for Sligo, Pats and Bohs and nothing on the website.

If St. Pats get past IBV, then their "reward" is a 2nd leg tie with Siroki Brijeg of Bosnia.
