. So is the amount of tickets not the 'official' attendance ?

no as you have to take into consideration, season tickets, under 12's go free and VIP guests

If an attendance is announced as official, then for the purposes of this thread it has to be recorded as the attendance.

The "but there were more in the ground" argument doesn't hold up.

Hey Patrick. I heard you bought six tickets for the GUFC versus Dundalk game just to boost the attendance figures.

But there must be an 'official' upper limit on the capacity surely, for health & safety reasons, is this not part of the reason why some matches are all ticket ? If the away team takes all their allocation and all the tickets are sold, I would presume that regardless of whether the ticket holders go to the match the 'official' attendance would be equal to match ticket sales + season ticket holders + away ticket allocation only.

Waterford United v Longford Town approx 900 I thought.

There was more than that in the stand sure!
Was a bit disappointed that the slight upward trend of recent games wasn't continued, but there was at least 1050 there, and probably closer to 1100.
I reckon about 950 in the stand, again many of them late comers, and around 120-150 about the ground.

City v Shels last night - estimates of crowd currently range from 5,000 - 6,000.

I'd theeerfore got with 5,500 until the debate settles or the club anounces a figure.

RTÉ News mentioned a figure of 5,000 as well.

Either way, it's Derry's highest league crowd of the season - another victory for Shels!

5500 will be the offical attendance at the showgrounds on sunday , HSE and FAI are meddling , they are creating a no mans land between 2 sets of supporters who have no history of fighting with each other.

Thats a brilliant crowd, cant imagine shels took more than 500, so 5,000 home support is excellent, well done.

Another victory for Shels.....? When was the first one ? They can't even beat us off the pitch, let alone onit (unless they go to court, that is).

As they had 150-200 people there on Tuesday, and we keep all the gate money, it's clearly another whopping victory for the City !

Just wait and see our crowd against Cork if we're still in contention.... :)

Thanks Oriel. They probably had about 200 from the sounds of things - not a bad away crowd for Shels really.

UCD and Derry both recorded their biggest gates of the season this weekend, and both at home to Shels. That leaves just Longford and Waterford (and Shels obviously) who haven't had their biggest crowd of the season against Shels.

I tolds you guys the average would go above the 1,000 mark, and I still predict it's more than likely to break the 1,100 mark by season's end. And the doom and gloom about attendances falling under Summer football this year will be exposed as broadly a myth... :D

The 2 City v Drogs game had good crowds - both certainly above our rolling average. I'll ask on the Forum and let you know Pineapple.

Thats probably our avg crowd over the last 4 or 5 in oriel (apart from the Rovers game) i thought maybe more would of been there myself but with the **** weather yesterday that probably counted out a few more.
Not the greatest game ever but 3 points all the same.

Yeah I`d go with that, def no higher than 1,500, 1,400 sounds about right. Kilkenny are no attraction, had zero away support, plus a terrible windy night, maybe floating fans just thought it would be a walk in the park and didnt bother.....................far from it, just glad to have got the 3 pts in the end.

To be fair Kilkenny made it very difficult for us. A case of move on to next week.

Wouldn't have said there was any more than 800 at Bohs-UCD. Real end-of-season feel to it.

Bohs programme gives the missing Drogheda figure as 1330.

I've said it before - pißing on each other over fan numbers is a waste of time. While I'm proud that my club had 600 more fans than Pats after a generation on the road, it doesn't give me much satisfaction.

If all the public ever see is what a shambles the FAI and Irish football are and how wonderful English football (thanks to its FAI and RTE supporters) is, you can't blame them for staying away.

Good luck to the junkie scum in the final, anyway.

The final is a different prospect, anyone who's ever been a fan will be there and will drag their mother and the the rest of their family along! That's the way it is for all teams when it comes to the cup final.

Not saying they are screwing anyone out of money, just sayign thee was more than 5,100 at the match,at least 1000 more.
Now we have heard rumours that therer were fake tickets being printed so that would have added to the numbers also.
I dont think Derry could complain with the money they got considering their fans were allocated 2000 tickets....1/3 of the attendance.

The gate gets halved, so the number of tickets either side's fans get is irrelevant to the allocation of the gate receipts.

Apparently the tickets for the game looked like some kid had made them, so not surprised if there were forgeries. Few tricks get missed on Foyleside anyway....! :p

To be absolutely accurate its:

FAI 20%
Home 44% (55% of the balance after FAI share)
Away 36% (45% of the balance after FAI share)

Home team has to pay all the costs (referees, security, ground rental :D etc)

The maximum capacity was approx 6,600 with Rovers allocated 3,600 and Pats 3,000. There were plenty of empty seats so there was no way there was 6,000 there.
