View Full Version : 2006 Attendances

bout right, would have said 1200 myself and i'd say my guesstimate is closer. absolutely shocking attendance. i think the club will be changing back to saturday as quick as possible. attandance not helped by dublin city being the club they are. no fans, no talent and no entertainment
1100 - 1300 seems to be general concensus but not sure that is right either. think it was lower than 1100. every club has to inform fai of official attendance. cant see why fai cant publish on their site. attendances should be a matter of fact not estimation.
For some strange reason Con Murphy said "I hope they stick with this Friday thing and give it a proper try. Dublin City are not the team to judge this change against!". If they'd done even the mildest investigation they'd know how unpopular this is.
i'd agree with the need for a dedicated EL night but friday nights IMO are not the answer. doesnt give away supporters a chance of making games. like next week against waterford. will only be few sligo rovers supporters at it. if it was saturday there'd be a large amount. Saturdays IMO would be a good day to have all games played. beit early in the day or at night. the whole things needs more organisation.

300+ at Athlone vs Monaghan tonight about 100 left before half time.
Terrible as a lot of people I have never seen at a match beofre. They wont be back.
I would say we just scrapped 200 at Galway v Cobh match, 3 cobh supporters. Poor attendance for a match which would be for a local western derby according to some EL supporters

There were 220 adults at the game, as per the lads on the gate, so
if you add in students, kids etc I would say 350.

i think the official crowd was literally a couple of people short of 1000. so between 990-1000

I was at Tolka last night and find it very hard to believe you 1000 people came through the gates.

Well how would you divide the 1000 between the four stands?....
If that was a 1000 then Shels have been getting gates of 3000 for the past few weeks
Ive found very little of what I heard over the past few years at shels hard to believe nevermind the past few months :p
attendance versus Ramblers and 1100 for last nights friendly versus Ipswich.
About 650 at Waterford United v Sligo Rovers last night.

very poor and very quiet Pat's support on Friday. What happened youse? Your doing way better on the pitch this season, yet your crowds aren't that good!
We're ****e at the moment but still brought a good crowd out.

It was the biggest crowd I've seen there in a while, I thought about 2500 alright. Not a bad game, though I missed the first 20 minutes when apparently Pat's were on top!

You can get an idea of the crowd at Dublin City v Shels from the video on the Shels site (http://www.shelbournefc.ie/news.php?id=404). Shopping Centre end is empty, there's a shot of a fair bit of the Connaught Street stand and it's empty, we don't see the Des Kelly stand, but I don't thikn it's open for DC games (wasn't when I was there anyway) and the Jodi looks to be no more than 20% full, though I think the last couple of blocks don't come into shot. So about 500, though I'm not going to put that in unless someone who was at the game agrees.

No offence to Limerick obviously, but it's a sad indictment of the league that one of the biggest crowds at any ground this season is for an English First Division side's reserves and youths.

I was at the Dublin City game and thought it was 500 or more but in the Jodi with 3 sides of the ground closed its hard to judge what the actual crowd is. Gareth on the Shels site mentioned 300/400 but I don’t think that an official figure.
Shels v Waterford game was about 800/900 ??
More than I expected for a Monday night to be honest.

Yeah, it can be a little sad watching large unfamiliar crowds gather for friendlies against English or Scottish teams...but I appreciate their role as valuable fundraisers. Was there not a game a few years ago involving the Dream Team, or Keith Duffy All Stars that sold out Tolka Park? Now that was genuinely embarrassing!
