Mountshannon 1 Bridge Utd 0
Disappointing result for us yesterday. We definitely deserved something from the game but fair play to Mountshannon, they battle to the very end and certainly do not deserve to be relegated. Our failure to convert the chances that came our way proved decisive with the hosts grabbing the winner in injury time. Sickener!! But we have to get on with it, there will be more twists and turns in this saga yet. Mountshannon will stay up in my opinion and deserve to do so.

Is there trouble in the Bridge camp? Rumour has it that your manager resigned after the game?? Is the pressure beginning to show???.

I heard half the Newtown team is missing for the Lifford match including Noel Donnellan and the other half have a function on so Lifford will stroll it on Sunday??Some commitment!!!!They are worse than playing a country team with a load of GAA heads so you dont know from week to week who you are playing!!This is hardly fair to Avenue or the Bridge not to mention that they will be back in the relegation battle after losing.

Just back lads,OH MANA,OH MANA you should wait till after an event to go mouthing off ,you think you would have learnt from the Bosses mistakes,ye still have a chance but it is no longer in your own hands,Avenue will prob win the league only because they do most of their talking on the pitch unlike a few who represent the name of Lifford,Manalishi/Boss
Not sure if there was a report on the match further down the thread but Newtown coasted home minus Noel Donnellan and the other half who had a function.Mike Heath sent off but Newtown at that stage were well on Top,Don't really care who wins it as long as Lifford don't mainly from his comments above, can Liffors AFC not ask Foot.ie for this fella to be banned as he is doing them serious damage?????;) :D :D

Fairplay give credit where it is due this week so next week Avenue will have a stroll as the Newtown boys only play every second week.Dont see the relevance with a crisis with Lifford??Lifford didnt loose to a 3rd from bottom 1st division side after leading 2-0 and needing to revenge last years cup SF defeat, having led that as well!!!My opinion on Newtown doesnt change though. They have lots of skill but no brains and no balls!!!!

Remind me what ye have actually won last year,i will give you a hint NOTHING,Newtown won 3 cups,
This year i think ye will equal last year NOTHING, well at least ye are consistant...............Anton will not be happy with muppets spoutingcrao on this thread..........:p :p :p

This is a cracker!!!

Newtown asked if they could enter the U17s cup despite not having a team in the under 17 three team league and were corrrectly openly encouraged. The team would be made up of under 16s and 17s from the youths along with some under 15s.The cup was to be played last week and what happens? The League puts a fixture in the morning for their Youths and the cup in the afternoon for the 17s.On enquiry they are told the games MUST go ahead(WHY?).Even so Newtown decide they will play both matches, with 9 players playing in both games!!Luckilly the 17s match was postponed due the pitch being unplayable, but they loose home advantage.

Now wait for this one!!!!!This week the youths and the to-be-played-again 17s match are both on at the same time!!

Result: Newtown will have to pull out of the under 17 cup because despite Turnpike agreeing to switch to Paddys day the 17s are not available.

Is the FAI now running our League. This sounds like something they would do.

This definately sounds like a major **** up on the Leagues behalf. Surely their prime aim should be to promote football and as their are only 3 teams ( if I read the passage correctly) in the U-17 League allowing Newtown to enter the cup to make up 2 semi-finals instead of one team gaining a bye directly into the final seemed like a positive step.
I would presume on contact with the League in regard to both fixtures going ahead at the same time that some sort of compromise would develop.
Why did Newtown lose home advantage due to their pitch not being playable? Most pitches in Clare were unplayable last Saturday and the Council closed Lee's Road due to weather conditions. I thought that you normally got 2 chances to stage a home game in the cup and why is not home advantage lost in similar cases for League games? (Just a thought).

Correct, the league would switch the 17's match to the morning in Ennis,Half the team would rush back to Newtown to play youths at 2.00,was never going to work,Newtown thought that by putting in a 17's cup team to make 4 and with the youths league getting smaller they would be able to play alternate weekends.as for losing home advantage another joke,as you rightly said all games were pulled last weekend but the clare league are in a league of their own:ball: :ball:

Manager resigned after the game but I think it was a knee jerk reaction as he was so disappointed to concede another late goal conceding more valuable points. He also felt that he was not getting 100% from all the squad. He has however taken back his resignation following a meeting and training last night in which 17 players turned up and proved to him that we all have the same goals as he does. There is always pressure at this stage of the season and with the exception of Avenue every team has shown cracks in the armour. There will be lots of twists and turns in this saga yet but Avenue have to be favourites at this stage.

Your comments are right on!!It appears because Newtown asked to go into the cup the fixture secretary thought it was a 16s team .That was ok for last week but why not change it last week anyway??This week is a joke as it was explained that there were 9 youths under 17!!!(and look at their position in the Youths League, although you wont see it on A2z cos it hasnt been updated since last year!!!) and this week the 2 matches are on at the same time.the decision to loose home advantage has me baffled altogether.Even Turnpike ,who the 17s are supposed to play ,dont agree with that.

Great win for Rock over Bridge A. Some bridge lads claiming they are concentrating on league only but i'm not entirely convinced. Tough draw against Bridge Celtic but rock lads really up for it now.
Fancy lifford to bounce back from Rineanna defeat to go on to beat Avenue on sun. Avenue lucky to draw against a poor bunratty side that could be going down - neither team in great form but still fancy Lifford as they can score goals. - Avenue created very little. A win could be also be a psychological advantage for Lifford to go on to clinch the league.
Surprise result Newmarket losing again - Any truth in rumours of more red cards?

I watched the Cratloe v Newmarket game, definately no Red Cards in this one though I did think Docca was lucky not to get one. Cratloe were good value for the 1-0 win in a fairly tough game where both midfields played fairly well, helping the attacking play and also helping out in Defence. Young McMillan was outstanding for Cratloe as was the Right Back.

Thats a load of rubbish, most of the Bridge lads would love to win the cup, however we were let down badly at the weekend by a few who made a weekend out of the Paddy's day celebrations and we only had 11 players. Not making any excuses though, Rock were better than us on the day and were clearly far hungrier. I think they are a good outfit, strong in midfield and Niggles was very good up front. As for our league hopes, our form is not good at present but we would be hoping to kick start our claims on Sunday against a tough well organised Cratloe side. Any team that gets the rub of the green at this stage will win the league. 33 pts should do it!

If Newmarket fail to win on Sunday they will have to beat one of the title contenders to stay up. It's all very interesting. From talking to the Newmarket lads , I think the reality of the situation has hit them. If they go down to the first it may take awhile for them to get back up. ( if ever ). It would be apity to be playing outside the top teir next season with the new paitch and set - up. As I said already big changes next season.................

Its interesting that no one is mentioning Lifford as premier winners ( except Lifford) . If I was to have a wager it would be Newtown.

Maybe not in your neck of the woods but lots of people in Ennis fancy Lifford. Lifford lads themselves very confident of turning over their town rivals Avenue tomorrow in cup and could be just the boost they need to go on and clinch the premier. These are the only two still with a chance of the double and I fancy Lifford to put one over on an overrated Avenue side. Saw them few times this season and didnt impress me.
Newmarket too good to go down but leaving it very late. You would have to fancy them to battle their way out of trouble.
Newtown and Bridge should come through their league games tomorrow and open up a gap over the two Ennis teams who are playing cup. Both playing relegation strugglers so my money is on league position to count.
Olympic to win 1st with Moher 2nd. Lifford certs for 3rd div.

fairgreen just about playable for tonights game avenue b v olympic. it is very very soft and will cut up. i hope nobody twists an ankle tonight.
avenue a game v cratloe was called off but now TOLD has to be played in digi. so i take it if a teams pitch is unplayable they lose home advantage and have no say on the matter.

considering avenue were told they have to play that game in digi on thursday how come newtown b game isn't moved there tonight and does anyone know the rules governing this decision. sometimes i think clare league just do what suits them without regard for rules.

It's because Avenue are behind in league games and the league wants a full fixture list on the final day of the season so it is fair on all teams. I think that is fair. Shouldn't make much of a difference to Avenue, it's not as if ye have been long enough at Lee's Road to make it the fortress that the Fairgreen was.

not the point i am making,

is it in accordance with the rules??????????????

cannot remember last when full league fixture was played on last day. or maybe they've tried to do this for the last 15 years but failed to do so or is this new?
i take it then mountshannon last league game will not be played for another 3 weeks at least like the clare league have always done.
