Thats one that always gets me.Why do Shannon players play for their local club in Bunratty. Is it snobbery??Is it the American tourist attraction ??or is the fact that there are better pubs to go on the **** before and after the matches??Are they ashamed of Shannon??
Someone please explain this phenomena(please note there are no words missing in this comment)
To be honest u havnt a clue what ur on about really do u..when bunratty formed first bunratty player's were players that no 1 else wanted at the start they used to get beaten ten or eleven nill every game but people like gerry hayes, noel twomey, jim twomey, pj woulfe god rest his soul, clem mc and de jones belived in them and slowly they they got better and better and the they won there first trophey under 16 up in corrofin under jim twomey-noel twomey from then on bunratty where a close club and they stuck together as a team all the way true..its nothn to do with bein ashamed of shannon or snobbery or anything like that so get ur facts right before u make comments

First of all it's been mentioned that Jimmy Rocks is Ballbreaker, this is the only time i will mention ballbreaker again,IT IS NOT Jimmy ROCKS,Jimmy wouldn't even know how to use a keypad.
A couple of other things, any trophy that is played for is not mickey mouse,Newtown won 3 of the 5 trophies, while i would say we missed the 2 biggest ones we are delighted to have won 3.
On the Davy Wall story, all i can say is Newtown under Jimmy are looking at a few new signings and a few of these at the moment ply their trade in Limerick.
JIMMY WOULD BE FAIRLY QUICK TYPING ON THE CASH REGISTER THOUGH... HOPE DAVY WALL RETURNS WOULD BE A BIG BONUS FOR NEWTOWN & CLARE LEAGUE :ball: :ball:

[QUOTE=Pauliwallnuts]Kilkees has to be the worst I ever saw.
You wouldn't allow a goat to graze it, its so bad & theres always the off chance that you'll get a belt of a golf ball on the forehead.
The Tulla pitch is also brutal but at least they are in the process of setting up a new ground.
I agree with whoever said St Pats pitch on the side of the mountain is some hole of a place. You have to tog out in a farmyard covered in sh1te. Really pleasant experience on a cold winters Sunday morning.
The pitch Newmarket used this year was terrible as well.
The other pitch I hate playing on is the Fairgreen.
the fairgreen is san siro compaired to that ****. (kilkee, tullycrine, st pats/cooraclare, burren utd, tulla ) come on in fairness, would the reason you hate playing on fairgreen is you probably hardly ever won on it??????????????????????????????????????

The only thing about it is the format is nonsense. It is played just before the start of the new season but you have to use the previous years players.....only Shannon Town would insist.
I always remeber the laughable secnariao where Newtown A were playing Park RangersA in the semi final and they played Dean Richter and Davy Wall as they had a lot of players on holidays. These 2 had been playing in Limerick for Pike Rovers and Geraldines respectively but were signing for Newtown for the season that was starting at youths level, they were both 16 at the time.
They tore Rangers assunder and the result was 2 nil. What did Rangers do :objected and Shannon Town dumped Newtown out .Hillarious.

On this subject, did anyone see the new GAA Player Club Exemption Form from the League yet?To be fair its fairly detailed and anyone who gets this staus deserves it as it will take ages to fill out.

for a team to use what ever players they have from last season / new season :ball: :ball:

Check the dates it took place over the last 3 years. My areguement is that ,as it is in memory of a man who was dedicated to football it should maintain its importance, but if its last years season it should be played as close to last season as possible not closer to next season.as has become the practice now!!!

it was originally just for shannon teams only... not sure if rinneanna / bunraty are involved now ... have not even watched any of the last 2 years competion ... it seems to be dying a death a couple of years back this was the best cup to win nearly even better than winning your own league ... and always was very competive matchs with local pride at stake :D :D :D

I think Shannon Town tumbled down to 1B after their stint in the premier. They were however in a playoff for promotion back to 1A a few weeks back. Did anyone hear how they got on?
On the rules of the Wesely Webb I do think its a bit harsh that its played at the beginning of 1 season and players from the previous season have to play. Does not always prove possible.
When HK was our manager he played 2 of the "new crop" and we got a 2 year suspension. We knew the situation though and at the end of the day I suppose rules are rules...

The Wesley Webb tournament was always meant to be an end of season competition and with the Shannon teams only involved.Initially it was a fiercely competitive tournament. Unfortunately it is not always played in that period and drifts, causing problems for all.Indiscretions by some clubs have meant that Bunratty and S.D.C. were expelled. ShannonTown need to review the reasons why they run the tournament as it is in memory of a man that gave them great service and should not be forgotten for the principles he proudly promoted with them. Oldspice and cousinsyl and opengoal and a few more, might just be too young to remember him but are well informed locally and seem popular enough with the rest of the contributers so get on to them and spread the word, GET THE WESLEY WEBB BACK TO THE STATUS IT WAS, INCLUDING ALL OFTHE TEAMS FROM THE LOCALITY.
By the way S. Town won Div. 1b last week

Agreed on the fact that Wesley Webbs name needs to be honored properly. The problem is Shannon Town leaving it too late too run it and then coming across with this "official" rubbish. If they were official theyd run it at the corrrect time and the problems would not arise in the first place.

The Wesley Web hasnt always been just for Shannon Teams, I remember when Star Rovers used to play in it when it was held in the two pitches that Sennan's rugby team play in now. Im almost sure that there was also another 1 or 2 teams from Limerick in it also. By bringing back a couple of Limerick teams it might make the tournament more desirable to win. Teams like newtown would be able to use it as a gauge to see how far behind the Limerick league they are.

I believe all Shannon pitches are closed at present, but for different reasons.Newtwown and Rangers are working on theirs in the close season ,I think the others are let grow wild to facilitate the local birds and wild animals. If you do this you get a grant from the Department of the Environement as proposed by the Green Party.

Fine but if the Clare League are so adamant that teams in Clare play in Clare, except those already out(FAI ruling),then why dont they and the Clare Referess insist on only Clare referees officiating in Clare???
Because its a Limerick based team that runs the tournament. The Clare league cant stop newtown and shannon olympic playing in the tournament, and anyway who cares where the refs are from its just a friendly tournament I doubt if the refs have any interest in who wins it, so they're not biased.

Seriously why would limerick refs care who wins the wesley web. The 2 limerick teams esp park usually win the tournament because they're better than rineanna, newtown and olympic. Its not a conspiracy against clare based teams, the refs get paid no matter who wins. What decisions are you talking about where the refs have blatantly ruled in favour of the limerick based teams?
