If that was Liffords full team against Newtown, ye'll win nothing. Newtown were missing 4 starters, played terrible in the second half & still should have won. Lifford are too lightweight & will drop plenty of points.
cant condone the boss comments..its really way too early in the season to b talking about winning a title... look at bridge last year had an excellent start and then faded away.
ok maybe lifford were lucky to get 3 points from newtown game but we didnt play well at all and its a cliche but its a sign of a good team when you play bad but still win.. i'd say lifford will drop points throughout the season (what team doesn't) but they are picking up points this season that they didnt get last season....ie avenue and newtown.
also been 'lightweight' is not a disadvantage as there is less belly to carry in the last 10 mins of games!!

No new signings to report Mr. Pitch.

Was it on in Ruan or Lee's road last night? Lee's Road...what a set up. Only thing I did not like was the hiding we got out there.

Fair bad weather in the Bunratty area at the moment. Any word on tonights games.

Its a probability that lifford A home games will be in Lee's rd for the rest of the season!! :ball:

Is it true Bunratty have no B team this year? What happens when a team folds before the league even starts, is the respective division just one smaller?

yes good point it is a good sign if u can still win without playing well ... but luck still plays a big part in everything it is the soft points dropped that usually cost teams the league
as said in earlier thread looks like a very tight league this year
as everbody seems to be dropping points so far .. also some teams have a lot more belly to carry than others ,, i wont name anybody
** forgot to add most of these bellys will be getting tempted around town tonight & tomorrow night **

Bridge Celtic o Newtown B 1
A goal by Newtown B's Willie O Donoghue ,headed home after an inchperfect Rory Price free kick ,early in the second half ,was enough to give the understrength visitors the points against a much improved Bridge Celtic B last night.Celtic, who had shipped 7 goals against the other Shield finalists contenders,Shannon Olympic, were a vastly improved side from their effort against the other half of the Shannon Old Firm, but still didnt unduly trouble Newtowns keeper Jason Phelan, who was execellently protected by a well organised replacement back four of Gearoid Magee,Trevor Donnellan,Robbie McCoy and scorer O'Donoghue.Despite extreme pressure for the remainder of the game the home sides best efforts were able dealt with and Newtown held on for the final whistle to put them through to the £rd Division Shield Final ,much to the delight of manager Bunny Monaghan

Ah Lads.... Where is all this crack licking and admiration coming from. What happened the good "old firm rivalry" that was mentioned earlier.

Be honest now... do ye really hope the other side of the old firm has won when ye get the scores every Sunday just so ye can both "top the league in harmony together" :D :D :D
I'd have my doubts

well to be fair there has always been intense rivalry but never any hassle so I dont have any problem wishing Olympic the best in going for promotion.I have to add that they were very sporting after we beat them last week and thats when you know who are real sportsmen or not!!

I'll admit there are people at Olympic who strongly hate Newtown. Personally I don't count myself as part of that group. I have friends on the Newtown team so perhaps I am an exception. Rivalry existis on the field sure and noone gloats better than Newtown sure :D but I'd rather be battling against someone I know so I can partake in some good old fashioned slagging rather than some bunch from out west.

Newtown B have been a long way off Olympic B in recent seasons so it is good to see them sort themselves out so that the rivalry may mean something this year. I'm pretty confident we'll be there or thereabouts again this year so it'd be nice to see the derby games be real 6 pointers for a change.

in fairness old boy 3 teams pulled out of the 2nd division last year which should have meant that 3 teams should have went up automatically and since we finished third we taught we would be up only to hear we had to play fourth from bottom in a play off {lost}...so the reason olympic went up was because we finished third last year...which is only fair

not having a go at olympic .... fair enough you are going up

but it does defeat purpose of promotion / relegation if clare league keep changing rules every year... as said earlier they should be trying to work out why all these teams keep pulling out of league :D :p

Well they're playing in the 2nd division shield. But then I suppose we've seen that doesn't mean much. :D

As for rule changing, I don't think it was a case of that more along the lines of replacing a team that dropped out with the next most eligible team. I'm sure if any team was relegated from the 2nd division last year they would've been given the place.

You are right about one thing though, something needs to be done about all the teams pulling out. Where are all the players going?

Kicks
05/09/2005, 1:54 PM
Very surprised that bunratty b pulled out. All their hard work from getting out of the third division and into the first just thrown away. Surely the team that they had last year would have had a decent chance of getting back into the first division. Bunratty are one of the biggest clubs in clare but they can't get the players to form a b team. Even the a team have lost a lot of players. What's going on at bunratty that everybody wants to leave.
As for Olympic they should have stayed in the third division and battled it out to win the league or at least to win promotion on merit. Coming 3rd in the league and then losing a play off final only to have promotion given to them by default is no achievment. They''ll most likely struggle in the 2nd division anyway seeing as how they were'nt able to win a place in the division on the field.

GOOD ADVERT FOR CLARE SOCCER.

guess who's back, malleys back, lawlor's back, back again.............

love em or loathe them (i,m borderline love) newmarket are a different team now there heartbeat is back. they two did more than enough to get sent off but jim denniffe was very slack. avenue missed chance after chance. had a penalty saved (if applying letter of the law should have shown defender red card as well) then to top it off high ball caught by newmarket keeper, jim turns around, he drops it and avenue knock it in the net, jim turns around after hearing shouts and melee and disallows it. (10 mins left)
avenue had enough chances to win three games last night, but the two prodical boys who were not on the own all night (but stood out head and shoulders when it mattered) pushed and pulled and bullied this result. (thats why u got to luv these guys and the old newmarket style was back,,,,,respect) that is what avenue is missing this year .... i safely know if what went on last night was few years ago they would have been delt with, not the handbag reation which they got instead. if we had that steel i would safely say a good national run wouldn't be far away.

ps (avenue were no angels either and could have 2 sent off for stupid reactions and tackles)

bunratty who were relagation certs are now up the top half of the table??????
