what a crock of sh1te:mad:
The quality of movies is inversely relagted the amount of promotion. Everywhere I that flick is advertised.

Let the Right One In was overhyped. It's a bit dull.
Encounters at the End of the World is superb and slightly nuts - highly recommended if you liked Grizzly Man.
Star Trek is good fun.

State of Play - solid average thriller that starts off well. Helen Mirren's character annoyed the hell out of me but Crowe was good in his role as a reporter trying to unravel a conspiracy. The original two main roles were to be played by Pitt and Norton but scheduling difficulties meant Crowe and Ben Affleck were drafted in. 3 out of 5.

In The Loop. If I tried to describe just how good it was I fear I'd break the swear filter and get a permanent ban.

I was at both of these with John83. I reckon that's a bit harsh on Let the Right One in. It's a decent film, just has a serious problem with pace (if it was a simple case of being a slow pace that would be fine, it's that the pace didn't suit the story), but it's worth a look.
Star Trek is brilliant, and indeed a whole heap of fun.

Saw Changeling at the weekend, thought it was an outstanding film if not a little bit long.
A few really good performances from Jolie, Malkovich and Donovan thrown in there.

Saw some of [I]Texas chain-saw massacre: The Begining/I] (something) on TV. Great photography, better post-production then the original (obviously) but with the same angle of shots so very watchable. Also, villians are known from almost the start of the film so they are not quiet as scary, adversarial conversation between teens and villains. Alround a good holiday advertisement for Texas.

i'd veer more towards superb than good, that poor penguin was an apt symbol i thought. you should both check "Deep Water" if you haven't already seen it.

a average film but it was substantially better than its predacessor imo

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins...Not as bad as I thought it would be.
just saw what i think will be my movie of the year on saturday, philip seymour hoffman in "synecdoche new york" - i think this is pronounced sin-ECK-doe-key. by the writer charlie kaufman of "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" and "being john malkovich" among other stuff, but his first time directing.
Going to check this out. I think it will be a love it or hate it film.

Star Trek - 6/10.
Some great bits, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Bones, Simon Pegg, the in-jokes my missus didn't get.
Some awful bits, The lad playing Kirk was woeful, Leonard Nimoy, Simon Pegg getting ony fifteen seconds screen time.
Saw Synecdoche, New York last night & definitely not a mainstream film & probably could be call it arthouse. While the acting is excellent from Hoffman & Morton (red hair suits her  ) in particular don't think I understood it all. Without giving anything away the first 30 minutes & the rest are almost completely different films. Going to have to watch this again when comes out on DVD.
I remember watching Adaptation & while I got it in the first viewing only on second viewing did I fully get it but that was a mainstream film.

my local cineworld won't be showing Kauffman's masterpiece so I'm not a happy man. Instead she dragged me along to Angels and Demons and it was a bag of *****.

A friend of mine from San Francisco advised me to skip it. He said it presents a pathetically one-dimensional picture of a man who did a lot of great work on a huge number of social and political issues, summarising his life as "gay politician" when he should be remembered for much more.

Just watched 'Song For a Raggy Boy'. Brilliant movie and acting, but some violent and horrific scenes in it. Can't say much else, other than the trauma suffered by those boys was truly sickening.

Watched the first half of Milk, thought it was passable but a bit slow. Never got around to watching the rest of it. Rather overrated I think (granting I only saw half of it).
Frost/Nixon is a good film made great by the two lead roles in it.

glad you liked it so much bohspartisan and you seem to have much of the same "wtf" reaction i did pete. i was floored by the performances though and the sheer other-worldliness of the thing. definitely a david lynch-type of film in places and i've yet to watch it a 2nd time myself, which for this kind of picture is very necessary. i've yet to see Adaptation, i must get it on netflix. i have Milk waiting at home too.

Saw "Drag me to Hell" earlier. Doesn't take itself too seriously and found it quite enjoyable. Don't go expecting a masterpiece and I think you should have fun, better than a lot of the horrors recently that just try far too hard.

Despite the negative reviews, it's a gentle parody and glowing tribute to Star Wars fans. Of which I am one.
And it's got Kristen Bell in the Princess Leia slave outfit.

The more I think about it the more I liked it. Just telling people about it I find myself getting excited and enthusiastic, I think I just enjoy that time of comedy/horror/gross out type film. It wasn't afraid to play around with conventions of the genre and it just came across like the cast and director were having a ball making it.

I'd agree with that, though the experience of the film was ruined for me by an audience stacked with mouth-breathing arseholes.
Saw Fermat's room last night. I'd recommend it to anyone who finds simple math puzzles diverting. Moderately effective as a horror/thriller, and just different enough to be worth a look. In Spanish, but subtitled.

From the trailer it looks like every other drunken, gross out, american comedy. I'm sure ther would be a few chuckles but I for one was fed up with this genre a long time ago

I went to see the Hangover and it had a few laughs (stun gun bit) but it was not as funny as I expected it to be. The trailer has a lot of the best bits which is a shame because the Tyson cameo was funny the first time around. 3 out of 5. Not a patch on Very Bad Things and Swingers (both Vegas 'buddy' movies).
The Wrestler - after all the hype I was expecting more. Still worth a watch for Mickey Rourke's performance but it isn't a 5 star movie. Very strange movie for Aronofski to make considering he has made Pi & Requiem for a Dream. Way too commercial! Another 3 out of 5.
Hopefully I'll get to see Salvations this week. Has McG ruined it? I re-watched the first 3 Terminator movies in anticipation...........the first two were excellent but I forgot how bad T3 was.
Gran Torino - despite some prro acting from the support, a good film. 3.75/5
Zack & Miri Make A Porno - pretty dire but there are a couple of laughs. Seth Rogen and all the boob shots save it. And Elizabeth Banks is hot. 3/5
