also watched Turtles Can Fly, set in Kurdistan and tells the story of a group of boys on the Iraq/Turkey border on the eve of the US Army invasion to take down Sadam. Disturbing but excellent. Id highly recommend it. 9/10.

Melissa George, of Home and Away and 30 Days of Night, as a mom who goes away for a little sailing trip. You know all those films where the twist can can be seen from a mile away [m night whatever you call him]. You probably won't have that problem with this.
I can't recommend it enough.
Yea I thought it was thoroughly enjoyable film with lots of twists and turns,Her performance was great too
Seen Shutter Island last night. It wasnt the out and out chiller i thought it would be.Still a great movie though.Would love to discuss the ending with people though as its been wrecking my head all day today,i wont though:).

Saw Looking For Eric last week. Wow absolutely brilliant and a definite MUST see. Funny, sad, great acting (esp the lead), and football. Cantona is Cantona, cool. Shows what its like to be a football fan, when the rest of your life is in ruins at least you can have 90 minutes of relief. And shows the division between the man utd fans over the GLaziers - which is very apt for today.

Public Enemy.
Johnny Depp plays John Dillinger.A bit long at 2hrs 12 mins as the story doesn't sustain it.Good gunfights but not a lot else.
Not great 5.5/10

Gonna take my youngest to see Alice in Wonderland this evening in 3D. Is it any good? Is it worth my half hour drive to Armagh?

it's good, but maybe about 20 minutes too long.
the 3d doesn't really add anything either

It's a judgement call really. If you're a fan of 3D then yes, if not, then no.

Went to it in 3D and it was ok. Doesnt beat my best 3D experience of the Muppets in Disneyworld in Florida, now that was quality! Think I would have been more disappointed if had seen it in 2D coz it wasnt a great movie and at least the 3D gave it something extra. Was swatting away wee buggers that were flying at me.

Watched two DVD's last night;
"The Invention of Lying" was a poor effort at an interesting premise, mildly amusing at best about a 2/5.
"Harry Brown" was a very different sort of film and a much better one too. Nicely developed story, Caine's character remains vulnerable despite turning vigilate, I thought it was well directed and developed. The mood and atmosphere of urban decay is really well portrayed and you can't help empathising with Caine's character who has been left with nothing to live for. Some of the plot development and characterisation might have been better, but it's defintitely a 3.5 and maybe even a 4/5.

49. Secrets and Lies (1996) - A black optometrist tracks down the woman who gave her up for adoption at birth, who is a white factory worker and meets her new family. Excellent film, but very grim
very grim indeed....altho the monologue from timothy spall at the end is class...

Watched "Gran Torino" at the weekend, thought it was quite good, nice story and even some funny moments in it.
Sexy Beast - absolutely excellent movie, very funny and Ben Kingsley gives one of the best performances i have seen in a long time. Ray Winstone is similarly excellent. If you havent yet seen it, you should.
Food, Inc. - documentary on how the chicken, beef and pork we eat each day gets from the farm to the plate and how farming and the food we eat has been compromised by Corporate America. Not sure how much it applies to Ireland but definitely an eye opener. Would recommend this highly.
Watched "Somers town" at the weekend http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1172206/. Very good film about young friendship. Another top film from Shane Meadows
Saw Zonad last night.
This is one that is really going to polarise people I think, but I loved it.
Parts of it are very slack, but even then the film seems to acknowledge its own shortcomings with a bit of self-deprecating humour.
And the good bits are really good. Great lines like Jenny in the car: "It's like a penis, only smaller!", and surreal set pieces like Don Wycherly's cop gratuitously p*ssing on everyone.
The whole thing was even more mad as first off meself and herself were the only two people in the whole of screen 7 of the omniplex, and then - after a lot of head-scratching - I realise one of the stars of the show is none other than Brian de Salvo! Never knew (since found out) he's got quite an extensive CV as an actor as well as a director. And LoI guru. :)
Anyway, for me, 8/10, laughed all the way through, but I'd pause before recommending it as I'd imagine it's going to be a marmite-type thing. :D

Leap Year: (3 words) Clichéd oirish muck!!
to be honest Mayo Red, i cant believe you went to see it.... a shag is never worth your dignity. :goat:
For that annoying person in your workplace (we've all got one!) tell them that you could not recommened 'Bounty Hunter' highly enough. It was her indoors turn to pick. It is THE worst flick I've ever had the misfortune to sit through. I actually fell asleep for the first time in my life in a cinema.
Shutter Island was good but just didn't do the book justice, in my opinion.

A fair point well made, but then again it all depends on the bird now doesn't it!!;):)
Got a lend of "The Hangover" from a friend. Not usually into them american "crazy" booze fest movies. But had been recomended this by a few people who usually have good taste. But thought this was fairly run of the mill, better and funnier than most of the genre but that not saying much 6.5/10
The makers of these movies should watch "Fear & Lothing in Las vegas" or "withnail & I"
City of God - first time ive seen it in a few years. Hasnt changed much, still excellent.
Up In The Air - very good. Great performances from Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick.
The Blindside - Better than i thought it would be. Sandra Bullock is fit.

Went to see Kick A** tonight and it was just the tonic I needed. Laughed my way through it and while it is a bit predictable it is still a good fun romp. Am still a bit worried about the young girl in it and how she dealt with all the blood and gore! For a fun night out, go see it and just relax and go with it. 8/10.
Watched "The Time Travellers Wife" yesterday ...

just watched CLASH OF THE TITANS in 3D, decent enought show, didnt realise the time passing, but i must say i was expecting a much more intense battle at the end,
and also save your money and just go see it in 2D, this film wasnt made in 3D, they added all the 3D effects in due to the success of avatar, and it shows,
as a film id give it 7/10, and 3D effects a generous 3/10

Just watched the Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus. What a load of rubbish. Very disappointed. Would give it 5/10 and those marks are only for the fine performances of Lily Cole, Heath and Jude Law. Rest were just mediocre.

Saw Kick Ass last night totally enjoyed it. Not going to win Oscars (although if ****e like hurt locker can do it) but one of the most entertaining films I've seen in a while. Even the girlfriend liked it, giving it the glowing recommendation "it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be"
Saw "Hurt Locker" last night ... Oscar for Best Film???? Seriously????

Just awful. Dreadful plot, annoying cast, annoying product placement, schmaltzy Hollywood ending, didn't laugh once. Plenty of bikinis though to make up for it.

saw The Ghost on wednesday, so now you don't have to
terrible, terrible film. First twenty minutes are a battle to see who can do the worst English accent. Whoever cast Kim Cattrall as a political advisor should be shot. In total in the film, there's about 15 minutes of doing nothing except watching Ewan McGregor travelling by plane, car and boat, seriously. Two massive plot holes are never addressed. Olivia Williams (Adelle DeWitt in Dollhouse) is the best thing in it. I didn't know who had directed it until the end, nearly went into shock when I saw it was Roman Polanski in the credits, should have asked to have his named removed.

He's still nuts!
I had read the book a couple of years ago. I know the film that never really do a good book justice but the twsit in the book was fantastic. Every person I've spoken to that never read the book said they could spot the twist a mile off in the film.
Over the weekend I waw an old Czech flick that won foreign language Golden Globe and Oscar. Called 'Kolya'. On sale in HMV for a fiver. Brilliant, funny, sad and feel good.
