for an adaptation of a book, it was a pretty good effort (except for the end).
Sad, yes. I presume you brought your mott. :)
Mott?
Never read the book I'm afraid so went in blind. It was alright, though it didn't set my world on fire or anything.
think about the type of movie you went to see and see if you can figure it out...

Speaking of Tarantino , going to see Inglourious Basterds tonight , have fairly high hopes for it
Death Proof was shockingly poor
Thought Inglourious Basterds was very good :) Suspenseful and funny in equal measure , Brad Pitt and Christoph Waltz gave excellent performances

Thank you DR, I knew there was another one I needed to get out on DVD this week!
Saw The Damned United, finally, a couple of nights ago. Absolutely brilliant, haven't enjoyed a film as much in a long while. Quite different to the book, but a joy nonetheless.
To be honest I'd watch Timothy Spall and the brilliant Jim Broadbent putting up wallpaper, and they were excellent as ever, but Colm Meaney as Revie, and especially Michael Sheen as Clough, were outstanding.
Oh sorry, rate it! 10/10, all day long. :ball:

Saw "Crank 2" High Voltage yesterday, probably one of the best and funniest movies I've seen this year. Action packed and dementedly funny. With appearances from Corey Haim, Gerri Haliwell and others and a soundtrack by Mike Patton, but you'd have had to see the first Crank to understand it. It also stars the gorgeous Amy Smart.
Watched Grizzly Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grizzly_Man) Last night. Very enjoyable and very interesting. 5/5

ya i was looking forward to it, and was excited, the film was noting like i imagined, and was even better than i anticipated, go see
Films I watched in last week or so
The Damned united http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1226271
I know there is the big debate over what was truw and what was not, but still a very entertaining film, thought Michael Sheen was great a Clough. 8.5/10
The Good Shepard http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0343737
About the birth of the CIA thought this would be good as it start Matt Damon, Robert DeNiro, Michael Gambon and Alec Baldwin. But found it very slow and booring and turned it off after a bit over an hour 4/10
Anvil http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1157605
Documentry about Canadian Metal Band Anvil. Brilliant film one of the best I've see in a long time. Heart really went out to them. 10/10

Watched the Dark Knight just now and have to say was not impressed. Certainly not my favourite Batman movie but then havent been able to warm to Christian Bale as batman. He is too wooden, no personality and will never beat Val Kilmner.

Val kilmner? You can not be serious. IMO he's just marginally better than George Clooney. Michael Keaton was best Batman IMO but the last two movies were the best for story lines & Heath ledger is by far the best villain

Funny People- went in with low expectations, turned out to be a bit disappointing. Passable effort but way too long. 3/5
The Orphan- went in with low expectations as film I wanted to see was sold out, far better than I thought it would be, a thrilling horror movie with an ingenious twist. 4/5

hmm well it seems to cop a lot of stuff from that 80s(?) sci-fi movie 'alien nation' - but it could be just that there are old farts like me who remember crappy b-movies better than good ones. i would see it though, it looks a bit like 'children of men' in tone, which i loved.
'moon' - bohspartisan rec'd this very highly i believe, i'll have to rent it, looks fantastic, i own both the original solaris (clooney/soderbergh one was a joke) and 2001 so this slow-paced paranoid sci-fi seems right up my alley. bohspartisan have you ever seen 'stalker'?

Doesn't know whether it wants to be a comedy or a drama. I was practically begging for it to end - couldn't believe how long it was!
Just watched Fast & Furious on DVD. I really don't know how or why this series is still going. It's been maybe 8 years since I saw the original and absolutely nothing changed, but I guess that's the point of sequels.

It's nothing like Alien Nation.....it's the first film I've seen in a long time that is an original idea. Not a re-make/ re-hash/rip off. The aliens take a bit of getting used to...but once you get over that, it's brilliant. Of course it's a total reflection of Apartheid in Africa. The main actor is excellent. One of the best performances I've seen all year. And considering the budget the special effects are top notch. Go see it.

it seems good, i might. fyi, google "district 9 alien nation" to see all the comparisons people have found with the two movies. as soon as i saw the trailer i thought "alien nation directed by 'children of men' guy". but it's not a major criticism, just that people should be perhaps a bit wary of believing it to be utterly original - e.g. i'm sure 'alien nation' copped some other classic sci-fi tropes that i'm too young(!) to be aware of...

No but I actually like the Clooney/Soderberg Solaris aswel as the original.
stalker's another tarkovsky film where three questing individuals (a writer, a professor, and a "stalker") look for a fantastical room inside a dangerous 'zone' where residual effects of an alien crash-landing create hazardous traps and disorienting situations. the room in question grants one's deepest wishes (not always a good thing!). very good, up there with his solaris.

Duck Soup, one of the Marx Brothers most celebrated films, which lived up to its reputation.
Switchblade Romance, which has more plot holes than a script made of cheese.
The Fall, which is the prettiest move I've ever seen, though a little thin on plot.

the 3D didn't add much (which was surprising) and its still a great film 15 years (!!) after it first came out

She is indeed. Thought it was pretty good myself, sweeter although maybe not as raucous as Superbad. The main guy was very likeable.
Saw Creation at the weekend.
Really didn't expect much from it (I thought it might be standard BBC costume drama fare), but it was one of the best films I've seen this year, Bettany turns in a really strong performance. It's a far more complex and deeper film than I would have thought going in, with some really moving scenes. Yes, it concerns itself with the science v religion argument but it's a film about faith and family and belief, whether that's belief in yourself, someone else, an idea or even in a memory. It's genuinely a really good, well made film.

Seen the Soloist on Saturday night.A v.good film(but not a great film) with an unexpected ending. At least for me and the gf we thought the ending was unexpected,it didnt follow the usual route these type of films do,which wasnt a bad thing at all.Jamie Foxx is a decent actor too i have to admit.

Adventureland..really enjoyed it. Main guy is very good, Ms. Stewart is fine. First film I've seen her in.
Let the Right one in...Excellent. Hard to describe it....Vampire film but not a horror. Sort of a romantic movie between the two young actors, who are superb in it. It's a Swedish film, so subtitles. Go rent it....I loved it.

Rented "Observe and Report", a movie about a hapless mall security guard(Seth Rogen). I'm not a fan of Seth Rogen, but the trailer for the movie looked decent.
The movie itself was dreary and depressing and I think got one laugh out of it.
Rented another movie "The Chaser", a Korean action-thriller, pretty decent, but kind of falls apart in the last half-hour.

Tropic Thunder. Absolute snooze fest. I lost interest after 20 minutes and it seemed to drag on for another 20 hours. First film I actually found painful to watch. Especially towards the end. Just not one bit funny.
Totally overrated. The number of people I meet who tell me it's the funniest thing they've ever seen...
A bunch of Hollywood A-listers proving how 'down' they are by poking (very gentle) fun at the movie industry. While pocketing massive paychecks.
Conversely, Pineapple Express came out around the same time and was overlooked because of the Tropic Thunder hype- it's a little gem of a film.

Although I enjoyed Robert Downey Jnr and Tom Cruise's hands in Tropic Thunder, I would have to agree that it was grossly overrated. Long spells of nothingness. Totally agree about Pineapple Express, had a pain in my stomach from laughing at times, especially the foot in the windscreen bit:D
