Yip thats aileens, 50ft Its up there with Jaws, as they say in the film its only a matter of time before the biggest wave of the year will be surfed in ireland. With the weather getting wilder, over the next 10 years i can see it being huge. It only really been watched for the last 5 years who knows how big it got before that.
exactly and who knows what other beasts lie in wait around the west or off-shore... the only drawback in ireland is our wind and cold water, the former because it can create unsurfable conditions, the latter because it tends to keep the cameras and big names away (not that locals would complain of course).
back on topic, "riding giants" is a terrific documentary about big wave riding including the amazing story of jeff clark who surfed a huge, incredibly dangerous wave off the coast of northern california by himself for 13 years. anto if you haven't seen it, you must! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADy8f6t4Ri8

Saw Religulous tonight (at the Lighthouse in Smithfield for the first time0 v. shiny :p). Thought it was a very clear-sighted and witty attack on organised religion. It was also, most importantly for a comedy, extremely funny. I've read quite a few reviews on it that bemoan the fact that it selects the most misguided or the most 'wacky' interviewees which really annoys me because at the end of the day, even the most moderate followers of any of these religions believe in virgin births, gardens of Eden and resurrections. They're all fair game and Bill Maher shows them up magnificently in this documentary.

Possibly Best ending ever.
Bit like Usual Suspects where if you know the ending film is sort of pointless then.
Still haven't seen Wicker Man, despite possessing the DVD for ages now, but there couldn't be anyone out there who doesn't know the ending surely?
saw "Goodbye Lenin" last nite - have to say was a little disappointed.
I have high standards for German movies at the moment, and with the subject matter it could have been a bit deeper - too lighthearted for me
has anyone seen the Damned Utd yet?????????????????
Thought GL was pretty good when I saw it but it was a few years ago now son can't remember much about it now. I'm looking forward to seeing TDU though- Michael Sheen is one of the best actors around at the moment and seems to be enjoying a very rich run of form. He still reminds me of Tony Blair when he does that grin though.
Anyway, I picked Rebel Without a Cause up for £2 recently, I'm hoping it's not one of those iconic rather than classic movies. (See also: Tiffany's, Breakfast At)

I saw Goodbye Lenin in the cinema, for me I felt it was always presented as a teenage eye view of early 1990's. I nice German film. (Edukators maybe a similar type movie, I havn't seen it.)
Rebel without a Cause is teenagers having a voice for one of the first times. I would put it in the Iconic box. When I watch it i look at it through late 20thC. eyes and I thinks that's a mistake. I need to just watch and enjoy the film. Do you like Planetariums?
Two Simon Pegg fims, 'Hot Fuzz' alot better than I expected. Edward Woodward is in it too. And I saw the first half of 'How to Alienate people... (something)' . I was delighted it was away from Britain and a strong cast. Good British film, poor standard from USA.

I saw Fast and Furious last weekend. It just blew me away.
After the previous 2 films I was not expecting much.
This film reteams Paul Walker and Vin 'Legend' Diesel. It was great to see these fantastic actors on screen again.
One of my most favourite parts was when Vin Diesel said
"It starts with the eyes. She's gotta have those kind of eyes that can look right through the bull****, to the good in someone. 20% angel, 80% devil. Down to earth. Ain't afraid to get a little engine grease under her fingernails"
I was nearly in tears. This was a guy laying it all on the line emotionally. The scene higlights that there is much more to Vin's character than muscle and dope driving skills. It also vindicates the claims that Vin Diesel is the Al Pacino of our generation. Notewothy too is Paul Walker's performance - he shares the screen majestically with Vin.
The action sequences are revolutionary - The first 10 minutes will redefine the way action sequences are shot for the next 5 years (in the same way that the matrix did).
It's only Apirl but this is an early contender for film of the year. Next years's best actor oscar is Vin Diesel's.
Roll on Fast and Furious 5.

Knowing:
In a nut shell if you like Nic Cage you'll like it, otherwise keep away.
Good plot about a time capsule buried for 50 years and well worth a Dvd rental as opposed to going to see it.
Rented Quantum of Solace last night not as good as Casino Royale IMO. but still a good film. Craig is by far the best bond thnak god they got rid of never got touched cheesey line bonds of old.

I saw 50 Dead Men walking. Not bad worth a look but not revolutionary in anyway. I also saw the Damned Utd before that and it was not as good as I thought it would be although Sheen is very good as Clough.

Haven't seen it yet but Sheen's a great actor. He really seems to have studied all the characters he plays and captures their eccentricities and tic but importantly, without his performance becoming parody.
Saw Gone Baby Gone for the second time last night on DVD. If anything I enjoyed it even more, some of the performances are top quality. Is this one of the most underrated movies of the past couple of years?
I enjoyed films like The Big Lebowski much more.
Agree, Big Lebowski is by far their best film IMO
I watched City Of God last night. Not my first time seeing it but it is still very enjoyable. I'll recommend it to all who don't mind a fair share of violence.
One of my favourites. Great energy to the film.

Sweet jes*s, I do hope you're being sarcastic. Saw the 1st and 2nd Fast and Furious, 1st was ok 2nd was awful and form the reviews and trailers I've seen or read this new one is at best on par with the first. Vin Diesel is an average actor at best, the best film he was in was saving private ryan in which he only had a minor role, more or less every other of his films were action or car movies the invloved very little acting skills. As for him being the Al Pacino of our generaion, you have my nomination for stupidest foot.ie quote of 2009

I found the plot a little dull, and Dennings seems a bit one note (maybe she's just typecast). Cena's very good, and the music was decent, but it's not enough to make the whole thing anything more than mildly diverting. Actually, maybe Douglas Adams found the right words years ago, "Mostly harmless."

In the Loop was hilarious, it has a great laugh quota in it. The insults alone were worth the price of the ticket. Some parts of it are sadly, all too realistic but it's one of the funniest films I've seen in the cinema.
In 10 mins in the latest installment of 'I Can't Believe You Haven't Seen That Yet!" I'll be breaking my Schinder's List duck. Is it really as good as everyone says...?

I haven't seen the BBC series it is apparently similar to (I guess minus the swearing) but I enjoyed it too. Good change from usually Hollywood stuff. I also wouldn't be surprised if that was how bureaucracy works. Good cameo by Steve Coogan too.
I think the clip below is a good example of how the film goes. :)

I saw The Wrestler, Slumdog Millionaire and Madagascar 2 on my flights to and from New York. That's the order I'd rate them in too, The Wrestler was brilliantly done I though, although it left me very depressed, I'm glad they didn't take the easy ending option. Slumdog was entertaining but I thought it was fairly formulaic, a very good film but hardly matched the incredible hype, Madagascar 2 was, well, Madagascar 2.

really? cause I wouldn't be the biggest Star Trek fan, I point blank hated the last 2 films and I quite enjoyed it.
Actually I wouldn't recommend it to hardcore trekkies, it does play a little fast and loose with established continuity.
saw 50 dead men walking at the weekend, enjoyed it all the more as it is based on a true story, admittedly id imagine loosely based but it will make me go out and buy the book.

Saw the new Star Trek film and while its the best offering for a while from the series, its not as good as some of the reviews I have read. Abrams does a good job with it in fairness and I'd like to see the next installment and it was very much a get to know the cast film. If you never watched the original star trek it would be a good way to get into it although there is some poetic licence used. Simon Pegg is an interesting choice as "Scottie".
Edit:
Just saw someone else had dont this film already.

I suppose it would fall into " just wasnt for me" category rather than the "this film is brutal" one....
think the continuity is linked into the lost time travel thing...
