pulling hamstrings seems to be one of those problems that people get more and more as they reach the advanced years of their careers. it seems to he caused by a lot of other injuries also that arent properly rehabilitated from or linger particularly back or that. its a min 3 weeks lads with this.he is definitely out but will be back for uniteds game begining of April no doubt

Going to be a very, very inexperienced defence if Given, O'Shea and Dunne are all absent. We might see Kilbane restored to the defence to marshal the back four, especially when keeping our shape is so vital to how we play. Meanwhile Goran Pandev just scored a great last minute goal for Inter in the Champions League.

Times ruled him out this morning, and gave a firm indication that Dunne will be out along with Given. Bugger.

Out with the old, in with the new. McShane out in the wilderness. If we can just get through this game we might be able to look at it as a watershed moment.

Lads Kilbane was always going to start. Trap is way too conservative to change too much from last competitive match

Interesting
"Brazilian full-back Rafael is a major doubt, with his manager claiming he would need to impress in training tomorrow to stand any chance of ousting John O'Shea."

Really? The phrase "a major doubt" is footballjournospeak for "injured, probably won't be fit", so I read that as 'Rafael is still recovering from his injury, and unless he shows a dramatic recovery tomorrow, O'Shea's just the safer bet'. Not that Ferguson's reluctant to use O'Shea, but I think Rafael is a little ahead of him right now when he's fully fit.

I still think that if both were fit and Man United were playing a really important match he would go with O'Shea

It's hard to tell since it's been a long time since the two of them were both fully fit at the same time for a sustained period. O'Shea's injury troubles are becoming chronic and Rafael is playing well so you'd have to say he's got the shirt now, however Ferguson does tend to select certain players for tight games and O'Shea invariably gets the nod. Given that Chelsea have some big men and away goals could be costly for United, I think he'd have chosen O'Shea tonight even if Raf hadn't been injured.
That said, we're probably going to see the teamsheet later with Rafael at right back and I'll look a damned fool.

Great to see an Irishman doing well in a CL Q/F.
From what I saw of the game tonight, JOSH was very good, great ball for the goal and a few top pieces of defending, one particularly when Ashley Cole looked free on the right hand side but JOSH marshalled him back.

why doesnt he play the ball on the ground for us the way he did tonight?

Lack of options, I think. He always had Giggs or Chicharito coming short for the ball when Park was tied up. He doesn't get that enough for Ireland.
I thought he had a poor first half - some bad touches and a needless yellow card - but then he pulled out that no-look pass for the goal. A real class act.

Josh looked a very accomplished player out there. It will be good to have him fit for the Macedonia game, pity he will just be replacing Dunne rather than playing at RB.

he was muck first half except for the good pass to giggs.
I actually think he's poor. Rafael is twice the player of him.

Anytime I've seen Rafael play he has put in some very dodgy and quite frankly sly tackles. Very much a liability in United 's team when he plays IMO.

Apropos of nothing, O'Shea was the third top passer in the game last night, and second best United player behind Rooney
From https://twitter.com/#!/Zonal_Marking/status/58099101027405824
Most passes last night: Malouda 56, Rooney 55, O'Shea 52, Giggs 51, Essien 47, Carrick 46, Lampard 45, Park 45, Evra 42 via @totalfootballfc (http://twitter.com/totalfootballfc)

I think Ferguson was just trying to put a challenge up to Rafal whilst at the same time let O'shea know he still has a big part to play at United. Anyway last night showed that he was well able to perform at that level. I actually think the time out has given him new impetus, perhaps he realised the threat from Rafal, as I thought yesterday was one of his best games in a United shirt in a long time.

how come you didnt catch it when you edited the post the first time? You would have had to scroll down through the whole post to get to the relevant bit. How can you copy and paste an email into a post in error and then proceed to write a post and view it without noticing?

he'll never be the main man at United but despite the temptation to give him a good shaking in his mid-twenties, what he's achieved at a club like United must be respected - all the while never getting a run in what I'd classify as his best position, centre-half. Kudos Mr JOSH, kudos.

He's been playing well of late. Makes good money and wins things. I'd be happy with a career like that.
And I knew a Paul O'Shea who lived in Chicago for a while. They sounds oddly similar! If its the same person then he's slightly odd but fundamentally decent fella and that's not a bad thing.

Well the average Irishman would be happy with that, more so the average Icelandic, so for an Irishman in Iceland, thats a very healthy position. I hope none of that debt free status was tied up in Landsbanki though :) As a matter of interest how did you vote on that? Were you in the 58% who said no, as I assume you are a taxpayer there, to paying back the £3bn or so that was invested by the dutch, english etc?

POSH you need to start thinking about your 10,000th post. It needs to be something bold, historical and witty. A real Kuan Yew Lee job. Most of all, you must rally the troops here. Too much anti POSH lately. You have a great opportunity though. My liver will explode long before my 10,000th. (perhaps mercifully.)

McWilliams has used all the good stereotypes. What will Paul use? "Forum user man"? "Shamboy"? "Bohs-denier"*?
*I do not know if Bohs is on the denier scale. I doubt pretty polly would use it. Can't imagine Bohs having many TVs.
