Not exactly a huge club either from Riga, we put another Riga club out in 2019 on pens away, the standard in NI must be off the scales poor, Larne also won NIFL in 2023 + 2024 !
It is though

5 yrs ago is hardly a fair comparison when a relatively small amount of investment can make a big difference.

I have no idea how much better they might be than the team ye beat 5 yrs ago, but for example, Rovers beat a team this yr that finished 25 pts ahead of the team that beat us easily over two legs 12 months ago

I thought the same but looks to be another Riga side. There are a few of them. This is the crowd Linfield messed up badly in UCL PO in 2022.

5 years is a long time in Riga football history 10 years....., I will give it a go* - Skonto Riga played in Europe up to 2015/16 and are now gone, Riga FC founded in 2014 isnt a phoenix club, but were founded to replace Skonto even though Skonto still hadnt yet knocked out St Pats in 2016. Rigas FS (not Riga FC) got Skontos licence in 2016. Derry beat Skonto before but lost to Riga FC, St Pats lost to Skonto Riga. Dundalk beat Riga FC on penalties. Rigas beat Linfield on penalties in ECL play-off, and put Larne out last night. Auda basically a suburb club and play European games in the Skonto Stadium in Riga and play Cliftonville in QR2.

Nobody seems to be claiming Skonto Riga's title haul or trying to buy their history as per norms say like Cork or Derry Cities so if at some point in the future if there is a Skonto Riga founded and in year 1 has 15 league titles (I had to look that up yet could manage to be as clear as mud above)... well in case there might be some additional confusion on whose who of Riga FCs one day.

*annoyed at the way Dane Massey was released I was looking up Raivas Jurkovkis when he signed for Dundalk and I went down that Riga rabbit hole. Jurkovkis now is with Riga FC and formerly was with Rigas FS fwiw.

It was 2015 that Skonto knocked Pats out of Europe. I was over at the away leg and still remember the uproar over a goal they scored as Sean Hoare had the ball as the last man in defence but tore his hamstring under no pressure and instead of putting the ball out of play their striker ran on with the ball and they ended up scoring. A ruthless streak we don’t see from LOI sides in Europe!

To add another layer of LOI/Riga relations, in 2008 Pats beat JFK Olimps of Riga (existed from 2005-2012) at home and away in the UEFA Cup, with the away leg (which was Pats first ever away win in Europe) played in the Skonto Stadium.

It's been confirmed by Shels that St. Joseph's have refused to arrange international streaming, absolute disgrace they are

They are broadcasting it locally on Gibraltar FA TV, hopefully we see some 'dodgy' streams pop up

Stupid summer football season with its easy to remember calander year confuses what season is what in Europe!! Yup in the 2015/16 EL obviosuly an Irish side would have only played in 2015 and if Skonto lost their licence in 2016 they couldnt have played St Pats 2016. I will resist the Agent Hoare quip as it involve an injury. I dont recall that incident and I should cause I would have been equally annoyed and amused by the lack of sportsmanship - there was a time we used to be proud of our players not acting up, diving, 'game management' with mysterious injuries then Dundalk got good at the dark arts in Europe (turning point was BATE 2015, their dirtbag captain Rodiionov headbutting Massey and getting away with it then the way they killed the 2nd leg, spitting, celebrating in the Dundalk players faces, squaring up rather than shaking hands. Following year we killed the away leg at 1 down, we all know what happened at home, Rodionov was the most stunned gutted looking players and Dane Massey was one of the 1st to go shake his hand, pure sportsman like and not at all a fook you!!:D). Carried the ruthless streak in to domestic games, became media darlings and all that and everyone followed our lead....

I shall add FK Olimps to the list 2YC, thanks for that. I think I gave up before I got long before getting as far back as 2012, brain fried putting the bits together as it was.

Dysfunction in Riga the LOI would be proud of :D

Riga football is all a bit Cork Hibs/Celtic/United/City mkI & II/Foras/FC et al. isnt it, they should twin up!

Skontos without a comma, if, heaven forbid, foot.ie were to go like the old JW forum and there is a new home Skontos will be me.

We just need to get out of there and be done with them. Horrible little club.

They enraged me last week like no team before. Well Cork in the AISF 2010 was pretty enraging now that I think of it.

Sean Boyd got an elbow to the face . Big punch-up beside the sideline. Gannon sent off along with the sub keeper from St Josephs. Lad who did the elbow only got a yellow. Into injury time

Not sure if it was noted earlier in thread, but Shels are now nine home games unbeaten in Europe -

0-0 v KR
2-0 v Hajduk
0-0 v Depor
2-2 v Lille
2-1 v Glentoran
0-0 v Steaua
4-0 v Vetra
1-0 v Odense
2-1 v St Joseph's

I suspect that run is going to end in the next round though. Zurich are a very good side, and the LoI clearly isn't what it used to be.

Tis, yep.

A couple of those ties - Steaua and Odense - were over after the first leg, so the home game didn't matter as much (and potentially FC Zurich will be the same). And of course they're all from 2004/05/06, which was peak (overspending) Shels except for the St Joseph's tie.

But yep, still an impressive list all the same.

Like what? Feigning injuries at Tolka, refusing to give the ball back at Tolka after our defender Wilson sportsmanly put the ball out of play while their player was dead with a head injury who also magically jumped up when the ball went out, coaching staff stirring it at Tolka causing a near fracas, assuring Shels of streaming and then going back on their assurance and then stringing that out until the day of the match until completely withdrawing, smashing Sean Boyd's face with an elbow

I've head things about the ticket distribution and prices but I'll hold them off on that until I hear a straight story. Good riddance to the term 'St. Joseph's' unless we are ever that unlucky to draw them again in future

Derry have plenty of the ball but the Magpies look comfortable. Derry had what looked to be a good goal from a header in the box disallowed, the replay of the incident didn't illuminate what was the 'foul' (lack of camera zoom action) but whatever it was didn't look more than a slight touch on a defender who was challenging for the ball.
