Except it's not in Europe.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1101883/largest-european-cities/

It's in UEFA, which is what counts, just like eg Israel or Kazakhstan.

While the "no two games in one city on the same night" rule has been in operation for ages. And I could be wrong, but when two teams both want the same night, I have a feeling it goes to a toss of a coin?

P.S. That chart you cite is seriously misleading if you imagine Paris is bigger than London, "agglomeration" or no.

Funny yoi should bring up thay name. Watched him play for Hertha Berlin... An absolute bluffer of a player. The signing that really got Hertha eventually relegated.

Remember seeing a game he played for Milan soon after he joined them , he scored two great goals and looked absolutely brilliant

Population wise most of it is. It’s split at about 10m in Europe and 5m in Asia

30 goals in a Serie A debut season is a bloody good return in fairness! Weird how he didn't recreate that in the next four seasons at four different clubs. But he's better than a goal every other game for Basaksehir since joining, including 4 in 4 in the Conference League this season, and I'd say it's short odds he'll score one against Pat's, whose defence isn't quite as stingy as your average Serie A one!

PAOK got 16 points in the Conference League groups last year, and Basaksehir got 16 points in the groups the year before. I think any results for Rovers/Pat's are going to be very good achievements.

Im just hopimng that we keep it to 2 or less so the match is at least in theory up for grabs like the Celje one when it gets back to Tallaght whuich should ensure a full house and a good night
This is a huge step up particularly with how we have been playing this year , fingers crossed.

Some of the city is in Europe some of it is in Asia. It’s historically been a bridging point between the two continents.

Absolute nonesense. The fact that the main heart of the city is in what's called 'the European side' is a less-than-subtle clue ;)

It's a huge step up for sure. But it's also a free shot with no real pressure. A nice change from the Celje game. Or even Viking, with their 97th minute penalty to go to extra time against ten men!

Are Jack Beirne and Rory Gaffney still injured?

Byrne rather

Byrne was on the bench against celje so I'd say he's fit but not nesscesarily match fit. Gaffney was walking around the stadium but I don't know if he is fit enough for bench even. Doubt it

I seen a clip of Gaffney on the pitch when people were celebrating and honestly even his walking didn't look overly comfortable, I'd say he'll be doing well to be back this season.

Byrne is fit but out of favour with Bradley so may not start.
Doubtful that Gaffney will start for Rovers again this season I'd say.
Mandriou is eligible and should hopefully make the bench.
As sbgawa said, if we can avoid a pummeling, then hopefully a decent crowd in Tallaght next week against quality opposition.

Higher comps get priority, if in the same comp I thought it was ranking/co-efficiet for first dibs.

Is the Pats match being streamed somewhere? There's as much chance of a positive result for either side tonight as there is of next summer being dry and sunny. But I live in sun-starved,sodden,windswept Galway with eternal hope of a few fine days arriving, and that's my outlook for the games tonight as well.

Thankfully seems okay. Looked nasty initially. Pohls has had his Ready Brek! 2 class saves already.

TNS 2 up away in Lithuania. The Conference League really has been great for opening up group stage football to lower ranked countries. Be nice to see a
Welsh and Northern Irish side make it for the first time.

CorribsideSteve

Rovers looking comfortable enough. Blocking and passing well enough and getting into some attacking positions. Pohls saves have been key getting them to the half hour mark. PAOK have 2 or 3 more gears in them though. Have to get it to the break scoreless. Pleasantly surprised with them anyway.

Such a shame, that goal. Rovers had done very well and kept Paok at arms length for the most part.
Zivkovic had put in a wicked ball earlier and it was his ball that caused havoc for the og.
That’s what happens when you’re playing against a guy with 50 caps for Serbia - levels!
This team seem a better outfit than against Bohs a few years back. They’ve another lad with 40 caps for Russia. Baba played for Chelsea. Taison was linked with big PL clubs numerous times too.

All the analysis I heard pre match was that this was a far better PAOK side than the one we played in 2021.

Did not see the goal. Was it a howler or just one of those OGs that happens when trying to defend a ball in the box.

Agents Hoare and Cleary then. Its a bit Dundalk FC too to concede right before HT, switching off thinking part 1 job done, so frustrating!! For all the experience players now get in Europe there is still that naivety, that nagging fear of poor decision making calamity moments that undo 99% of the good work done in games. I dont think its always down to player quality or opposition pressue, it seems more self fulfilling prophecy so basically fear and between the ears, knowing when to play out, hoof it and hoof it properly too. Where we do suffer on quality is having any really clinical finishers, not that there was too much attacking tonight, as a league we lack any ruthlessness and efficiency in front of goal. Stll PAOK was always just a free hit.
