That sounds as plausible as any reason. Not quite the same but there was a pretty well known Dundalk fan (used to post here if he doesnt still under a different name) refused entry to a country at a road border (Belarus maybe) because the passport was deemed too tatty.

That was my initial thoughts. That it was torn/cracked, so maybe it appeared as if someone was trying to alter it. Even if that was the case, it should be fairly easily to confirm the lad's identity without much hassle. Arresting him seems way over the top.
Do wonder if it really was as a bribe attempt. Bulgaria has cleaned up a bit recently (though still not clean). Most of the border control issues are on the Turkish border, targeting non-EU citizens/goods.
To target a, presumably stubborn, EU citizen, in a group, who's already passed through the border earlier, would seem strange.

That sounds ridiculous, especially after the guy showed other ID cards too. I think the fact he's been released so quickly implies the Bulgarian authorities are 100% in the wrong. Hopefully something he can have a laugh over in time to come, but not a nice experience at all by the sounds of it.

There was definitely a distinct lack of pace on the wings, both defensively and offensively. When breaking it was very slow and no one to take on the opposition. That was one thing Kennys Dundalk were very good at and had pace to get in behind on the counter. And then players like benson to arrive late into the box for those breaks.

I'd love to have Benson. Watts is grand backup for the league but he's incredibly mono paced and slow. He has a pass in him but doesn't move the ball as quick as Jack so we can't even capitalize on opportunities we usually would.

When Dundalk beat BATE they had their full team (bar gartland). Past two seasons in Europe we haven't. Season before we drew Milan.

Still a chance at the EL and ECl and I'd be confident of one if Jack can get fit but he wasn't togged out on Tuesday so that's not looking great. Over to Graham Burke....

Good luck to Sligo and Pats. I wouldn't usually support other LoI teams in Europe but it'd be nice to beat an SPL side we need a few positive stories.

Pat's having one of those weird games where they are playing good football just missing the final touch or ball but yet somehow losing even with all the possession. Is it just a case of these lads happy to sit back and come out with any win?

The one thing that stands out is the inability to react quick enough, how often do we see our players dwell on the ball for too long only to have the ball easily taken away from them? we caught up in terms of technique over the last twenty years, but this surely has to be the next step in the leagues development, the ability to react efficiently.

Hahaha wow. Just logging on now to watch the Sligo match. 1-0 up! Unexpected!!! Motherwell look like they are still on the last day of their holidays and will probably get a shellacking off the boss at H/T, so you'd expect them to really push in the 2nd half. Highlights are showing that they rode their luck before and during their goal, which was lovely. Hope they can hang on as that'd represent one of their better single tie Euro wins. Mad stuff.

Ross Tierney on for Motherwell. What are the odds than an ex-LOI player does the business for them ... Sligo reasonably comfortable and getting a couple of half-chance opportunities along with some good breaks up the pitch. Pat's have seemed to do well this 2nd half. The Motherwell commentator is calling Shane Blaney as Blaney Shane, for some peculiar reason.

Motherwell starting to turn the screw, but moments ago Mata had a glorious chance to put Sligo 2 up, but fluffed it under pressure. To be fair he literally had just come on, so was no up to speed, but still... Commentators very receptive of Sligo's resoluteness and danger on the break. Loud boos now whenever Motherwell's attacks break down, which has been often this 2nd half.

Disgraceful decision by the ref in the sligo game, an absolute stonewall handball on the line stopping a certain goal. Sligo are unlucky not to be further ahead. Motherwell are next door to absolute awful.
