Sligo fortunate to get extra time it seems….

It's clear that it's competitive even at this level. Welsh side Newtown are through to the next round on penalties. San Marino club might go through this round. It's just sad that there is no ambition either from the FAI to have a clear goal to move from low ranking league to less lowly ranked league etc.
Shamrock Rovers last year were disappointing, hopefully they show some ambition to win 1 more tie along the way.

I think the away goal rule was/is better than extra time

Tre Fiori are 4-1 up in that tie vs Fola. Looking good. Crazy stuff that we may have no winners from the two ties. Desperate stuff.

They do. Just a pity it's practically impossible. (Is it 30th in five years?)

Whather they get through e should just refuse to nominate Sligo for Europe anymore even if they are top 3 or 4 or cup winners!!! These lad are preseason part-timers.

The bala players are tiring a bit i think. In fairness to sligo supporters they haven't stopped chanting the whole extra time

If a full-time team in midsession, can’t out last a part-time team in preseason during ET, then it really is time to give up.

Larne down to ten men and still 0-0 on aggregate against a Gibraltar side. Crusaders losing to another Gibraltar side

They’ve 15 minutes to pull it out of the bag or I guess we’ll really see how good of a keeper McGinty is.

McGinty won’t be at Sligo next season anyway, kept them in this….

Larne 1 nil down too. They were so impressive in Europe last season.

And Larne now losing 1-0. They beat Welsh, Danish and Portuguese opposition at home last year; now they're losing to a Gibraltar side

Kind of feels as bad as what - Cork losing in extra time in Iceland when a man up?

Saints off to Slovenia to play NS Mura after they beat Sfintul Gheorghe tonight 4-2 overall. They don’t look as good as I thought they would be after reading that they were in the group stages last season. A decent Pats side would give them a right go but I don’t think we have it in us to win in Europe this season.

Maybe sligo sacking Bucko a few weeks before Europe wasn't the best idea. Sligo look a disorganised rabble to be honest.

Sligo were awful and are very fortunate to be through to the next round. Mcginty is a level above the rest of the team based on this performance.

€300,000 for making the next round according to Ocean FM. Motherwell next!

I had a feeling McGinty would play a part and Bala really should have won in normal time or ET.

If Manus isn't going to keep going next season Rovers should be talking to mcginty about coming to tallaght. Is he out of contract at end of season I wonder?

Sligo extraordinarily lucky to get through. McGinty was terrific.

Sligo extraordinarily lucky to get through.
Worth noting the last two times LoI and LoW met, it was Dundalk 5-0 Newtown last year, and Derry 9-0 Aberystwyth in 2014. We'd won 8 of the last 9 games (the exception being TNS 4-0 Bohs) Sligo are through, but it sounds like a shocking performance. Motherwell will surely sleep easy tonight.

Fair play to McGinty, and as a UCD fan, that's about the best outcome we could have hoped for 120mins and the distraction now for Sligo significant, can't imagine they play anything other than a weakened team on Sunday

Yep - only Cardiff City had even drawn, and they're not LoW of course.

I think Georgia have passed us out as well this evening, so that's down to 44th in the rankings.

Will probably gain a couple of places back before the end of the campaign, although it's hard to see where the results are going to come from in the next round. A good EL draw for Rovers would be nice.

Edit - in fact, Bert Kassies (https://kassiesa.net/uefa/data/method5/crank2023.html) has updated already, and Georgia are level with us, so joint 43rd. As close to 36th as 46th though.

You'd think someone would want the broadcast the game too, so should also be some additional money for the club from that if so.

Premier Sports might pick up the Motherwell home game. Presume LOITV will do the game from the Showgrounds, unless Virgin Media pick it up, which you'd presume is unlikely.

The irony here, is that Sligo could now go out and give a good account of themselves against Motherwell. Lots of LOI teams have done well in a 2nd round qualifier after a very shaky 1st round qualifier.

Didn’t see the game, but I’d share your pessimism about our prospects. Hope I’m wrong, and maybe our two new signings will make a difference, but I fear the worst.

They’ve 15 minutes to pull it out of the bag or I guess we’ll really see how good of a keeper McGinty is.

This was a really weird comment seeing as he had kept us in the game to the point and eventually got us through on penalties. Best keeper in the league by a mile. Out of contract at the end of this year. Really don’t know how he hasn’t gotten a move yet.

We’re rubbish. Nothing much has changed since Russell took over.

Talk about getting lucky. Without McGinty, Bala would have won 4 nil. Sligo will need him to have the game of his life against Motherwell to avoid a similar score. Sligo were more toothless than Derry against Riga at home, and I didn't think that would be possible. Incredibly fortunate to be in the next round.

Are these results blips, or signs that the quality in the LOI is regressing? Outside of Shamrock is it a poor league this year?

legendz
15/07/2022, 10:15 AM
It's good that 2 clubs have gotten through this week. Shamrock Rovers are guaranteed at least 3 more rounds of European football. Reasonable success will be winning one of those rounds. Getting past Hibernians was professional.

Derry badly need to get a local billionaire involved and invest heavily in the squad!
