There is no strange rule for penalty shootouts whereby if the ball travels back from where it came then its not a goal. Like if it hits the post and then hits the keeper and goes in then its not allowed?
I just remember hearing something like that years ago but i could be all wrong. I assume the goal is fine as the ref actually gave it though.
Strange though, poor keeper must have been gutted
If it hit the post and then the keeper, I would expect thats a goal as well. Don't think a penalty is any different to a goal from open play that way.
I'm sure either of the ref's on here might know the actual rules though.
Cant fault the keeper too much there I think. Only natural if it's blown up in the air like that to celebrate.

Thats good to hear scaffa. Its always tough to keep a club going when there are so few dedicated people willing to commit their time to keeping it afloat. Hopefully ye'll have a good year next season
Glad to hear about Boh's too. Drove past the Fairfield about 7 and was wondering if ye were already back training when I saw so many there!
Cheers lads!

I thought Kinsale started out much better. Had all the ball the first 20. Wilton were a different team after the goal though, which was a lovely goal, great football for it.

2 nil Wilton deserved it I thought much better on the night. Kinsale had a 15minute spell alright midway through second half missed a couple of chances. Well done to wilton

Yeah, I'd go along with that, thought Wilton deserved it too. Played much nicer football on the night. I can only really remember the one chance missed by Kinsale but it was a sitter. Came across the goal to a player at the back post and it looked easier to score than miss but he didn't catch it well at all and skewed it off the post.
Well done witon. Much of a crowd lads?

Don't know many names of the players but thought Shane O'Neill was man of the match. Scored the first and won the penalty in the last minute. The center half who scored the penalty looked decent for Wilton too, really composed at the back. And the center midfielder ran the show too with lovely cross field balls. No real controversy but I wouldn't mind if I could see a replay of the penalty as it could have been a dive(Not sure if others saw it that way?). Although it was wreckless of the Kinsale defender to leave his leg hanging there either way.

Shane O Neill scored one and "won" a penalty. It wasnt a dive but agree it was clumsy and Shane O Neill played for it. Nonetheless Wilton well worth the win as predicted but admittedly if Kinsales one and only chance from open play had gone in off the post instead of deflected outward, different ball game. Without a shadow of a doubt Giltenan and Daly two best players on park, Dalys first half performance should probably give him the nod. In fairness to Wilton they did well considering two of their starters went off injured during game.
Wilton well deserved there win tonight. Much better team for majority of the game bar a 10min spell that kinsale had in 2nd half where they had 2 real chances, 1 as was said already was an absoulte sitter. On the man of match not sure who got it as left a few min early but i would prob of given it to Stephen Daly in the middle, his distribution of ball throughout the entire game was second to none, shane o neill and the 2 centre halfs had very good games also, delt with kinsales main threat of the set pieces and long throws. was a def pen Learpholl and i think the reaction of the kinsale players said it all as there wasnt much protesting done. Well done again to Wilton and unlucky to Kinsale on nearly doing the treble, would of been a fantastic achievement.

Fair point and I think most refs would give that as a penalty most of the time. I was right behind the goal for it and I'd agree with thebooboys, Shane O'Neill was definitely playing for it but as I said, it was wreckless of the defender to leave his leg out like that either way.
Anyway, no point talking about that after a good display by Wilton who deserved their victory and would've got it with or without that last min penalty.

Daly got man of the match he was different class I thought. I thought it was a stonewaller you can't hang a leg like that.. Say it was tiredness out of the full back more than anything.

Also thought Wilton were well on top and clearly the better footballers as I suspected they would be.
Again Daly was fantastic.
Interesting to see if the likes of Daly, Buckley and Giltenan play again next year

Congratulations to Wilton on their win last night.
It's all about goals and with so few chances created by either side it was finishing that proved decisive.
They scored with their only shot on target in the first half. Good move in the buildup.
We missed a great chance of an equaliser when we hit the post from close in.
That's football.
I thought the penalty in the last minute was a dive, and I'm glad that the decision to award the pen wasn't crucial in the final reckoning.
I'd have given MOTM to Shane O'Neill for scoring one goal and making the second.
Redandwhite shocking game!! i dont think so. went to the 2 big senior league games also in past 2 weeks and last nights game was best by a mile out of the 3 of them.

Congrats to Wilton and John Leonard, a man which every club has. Doing a lot of work with that team and the club in general over the past few years, nice to see him get rewarded with the Aoh. Also to Kinsale on a magnificent season, the standard bearers for our league, time for someone else to carry the mantle next season hopefully.

None im afraid Boo although they re all welcome if they want to play ball, we re an open club anyone interested in playing with either the first or second team are more than welcome once we go back training. im sure there s rumours about every team but we certainly are looking to sign players to improve the squad as we ll lose a few to emigration like everyone else.
Looking to sign a few locals who last year were nt involved that's as much as i know, after that you know more than me. Im sure some fellas think that after a few pints that we re looking to sign them when in fact we do nt even know who they are. U hanging up the boots or going to look to win that elusive league medal once more?

Ha, that's the only medal I need for full compliment, that and the FAI Junior, but the days of praying for one of them are gone I say.
I'm officially retired as of now but reckon I'd have a few yrs left in me if the right team came along. I'll see how it goes, the temptation of one more league challenge may be too great.....
So one more game left in the AUL season. Kilreen Celtic vs Park B in Turners cross Friday night. We played our last league game on the 5th of May!!!! Some wait for the final to be fair. We've been training full on since though. Won't get much of a rest before pre-season starts again but glad to be involved in it, and really looking forward to it. Still cant understand why the County cup final was played two weeks ago and their semi-finals were two weeks after ours??

God only knows the logic behind that one KC!
I'd like to congratualte Wilton on their cup win on sunday night. They took their chances and we didn't. Fair play. Nice bunch of lads.
As meatloaf said, two out of three aint bad. A tremendous season from us. Some of the lads on the team have won their 6th AUL Premier League medal. That's an amazing achievement. A much needed rest now for all involved. We'll be back and raring to go next year. The hunger for more silverware is even greater after tasting defeat on sunday. Looking forward to the new season already. :ball:

Verdict for tonight? Must be Kilreen? Will be in running for team of the Year if they do. On the rumours front I'm surprised at the little activity also, given that most top teams will be back pre season come 1st or 2nd week of July.

Kinsale with Innishvilla a close 2nd. Sorry KC. but ye would have had to win the Michaels cup to be in with a shout for team of the year . Corinthians was a consolation prize for being knocked out in R1..

Heart says Innishvilla - but head says Kinsale. If we'd taken the county cup - lost to eventual winners Leeside with close to the last kick of the match after a great game in Little Island I'd say Innishvilla. But Kinsale Premier champions, the Premier divisions cup champions and the Blue riband cup runners-up I think they have to get it... Innishvilla, Kilreen & Killumney the close runners-up...
I agree. Kinsale team of the year. Brilliant season for us. Finished off the celebrations yesterday with our player of the year awards. Park played some very good football. Nice passing moves but couldn't see them scoring to be honest. Nice crowd there too. Looking forward to next season already.

Sorry to disapoint a few people but thats not true. Had nt been on the site for a while, got a phone call from the gaffer this morning letting me know that this garbage had been posted on the site and to clarify the matter, 100% false. Malcom will be taking the reins for his second season with Coachford for the coming season and we re delighted to have him.
On your own signing Holden well done, i predict you ll get even more goals next season with Wilton, super football team. Should suit you, cant imagine too many defences will fancy playing against yourself and Shane O Neill next season.
