Rockmount 2-1 Leeds
Very unlucky not to come away with a win here. Played the better football in the first 45 mins and should have converted a few of the chances we created at least. Denied a penalty too in the first half that I feel should of been given, can understand why it wasn't to be honest.

Started well again in the second half and deservedly took the lead through Deane Buckley who capitalized on defensive mistake to round the Rockmount keeper. Moments later we conceded a penalty that was certainly more ball to hand, than hand to ball. Our centre half's hand was down by his side and the ball struck it as one of the Rockmount players tried to square the ball.

Rockmount came more into the game after this, and kept the ball well for periods. They took the lead about ten mins later though a well taken volley. Looking back at it now we should of cleared the ball before it got to their player. We pushed for an equaliser but to no avail. Created a fair few more half chances but couldn't convert them. Denied another penalty in the second half that was very similar to the one Rockmount were given when one of their players blocked the ball with both his hands from an indirect free kick inside their box.

Overall very disappointed not to go through the next round after out playing the MSL side for the majority of the match. We could blame the ref as he seemed very biased towards the MSL side with the penalty and through a blatant foul throw in the build up to their second but in the end if we had been more clinical we could of gone through.

Great win for knockavilla down in Leeside

Knockavilla's win really sets up the local derby clash in the AOH cup this weekend. It'll be Innishvilla's 3rd premier/prem A team in a row having beaten Pearse in Munster Junior, lost on peno's to Ballyvolane and now local rivals Knockavilla.

Also once again only one team promoted from divisions 1, 1a, 2, 2a & 2b. I know the divisions 1 & 1a have only 1 promoted but this has been the case for as long as I can remember and it does add to the competitiveness of the premier divisions, still tough to get out of those divisions - due to this arrangement you have for example Division 1a with 11 teams 1 up and 1 down - Douglas Hall & Kilreen are in danger of pulling away from the chasing pack, Passage need to get going or they could drop away at the bottom, the division is in danger of being meaningless to almost 8 clubs by Christmas with the relegation and promotion almost sorted - not the way it should be...

all is good inswinger, im just waiting for my buddy LITTLEMAN but seems to be no sign of him at all. Heard they lost a few as you say there. Wasn't at game last week so cant really comment on it as i havent seen lads since then, all i know is that we went down to 10 early in first half so i suppose you always going to struggle then. Out of FAI and MJC but i think that we not to worried about that at all, last year long cup runs seemed to catch up with us and we didnt have enough in tank for the league push at end of season, which is no1 priority down in Paradise this year!!!!.

As we go through a quiet spell on the forum............maybe the beginning of the end..who knows!...a few general questions.

The crap with Rooney during the week ****ed off every premier league fan when it showed how little the club means to most of them.

In a local sense, for the city teams - do you have a catchment area and does it come into your thinking when signing a player? Do players who are playing with "their" club try harder? For the country teams, should your club stay local or bring in players from whereever they can?

Were Avondale & Rockmount right to move so far from their catchment areas or does it really matter?

I asked a similiar question last year horse.
To be honest I would say any city club that does not have an underage system will struggle to get massive loyalty from players. There are always exceptions, great club men who stick things out through thick and thin but for the most part in the city anyway players have grown up in different clubs and end up in a different club for a whole host of reasons. Players that come through underage and stick with their club do have more pride in the jersey i feel.

Its different for county teams as if you are playing for your parish there is always that sense of pride.

P.S. great result today. Were ye good or is the story of Grattans demise true?

Even the Parish pride seems not to be as strong as it was. It suprised me that a town like Ballincollig took so long to get pitches as an example. I always thought their was a strong town pride out there. Too many sports maybe?

Great win for us today. We are delighted. For me personally as a Liverpool/Blackstone fan, I had gone 11 games without a win!!!

We scored twice early, but both sides were attacking well. We just seemed to be coping a bit better - they hit the post with a long range bullet in a frenetic start. 2 up at the break, and could have had one or two more. Saw half of the second half. We defended for the first ten as expected, but then had a great chance to make it three, which we didnt take. We saw it home apart from the odd scare. Having just come through a rough patch ourselves, Grattan just look like a good team who are low on confidence. No hiding the fact that they have lost a few players, but they did ok today - one win will set them off.

Kinsale B 2-3 Bohemians

The scoreline does not reflect that game one bit flatters Kinsale to be honest controlled the game for 80 mins led 2 nil at the break goals from Deccie Gostal and John cronin had us comfortably ahead.
John added his 2nd of the game after 55 mins to make it 3-0 but infairness we should have been winning this game by 5 or 6.
We got sloppy in the last 10 mins and conceded 2 goals but we should have added a 4 th before the ref blew for full time to give us a deserved win.

A.O.H. Cup 2nd round.

Killowen 1 Buttevant (A) 4.

We made our exit from the A.O.H. cup and our unbeaten home record also ended on Saturday. We were missing 2/3 regulars but no excuses as we didn't play well. First half was scoreless, however, our keeper was kept on his toes and made a couple of crucial saves. We conceded twice in the opening 5 minutes of the second half but pulled a goal back after 60 minutes to give ourselves a glimmer of hope. Buttevant converted a penalty with 20 minutes to go that virtually sealed the game. They added a fourth in the closing minutes to make it 4-1.

A.O.H. Cup

Leeds 6 - 3 Corkbeg

The ultimate game of two halves.

We went 5-0 up at half time with four goals from Deane Buckley and one from Johnny Cooney. Played them off the park for the 45 mins and scored 5 great team goals.

Second half was a different story as we eased off and credit to Corkbeg for coming back out in the second half and taking the game to us. They brought it back to 5-3 before we had a man sent off. Terence Buckley tapped one in to ease our nerves towards the end making it 6-3.
Overall a crazy game of football played on a great surface. (Why can't more teams have pitches like that?) Happy to be through to the next round but looking forward to getting back to the league at the weekend.

Just to show I can moan when we win too!!!

I had a run in with the official at the weekend during our game. 100% my fault, a complete over reaction and I thought he put me in my place well.

In our few games involving this official so far this season, we have had all 50/50 and most 60/40 decisions go against us. Both games were against higher ranked teams, so I had a theory that subconciously he favoured the higher ranked sides. In the last day or two, I wonder if its anti-us. Not sure but one to watch.

I will again ask officials who read this forum to please put consistency as one of the items at the top of your list. I actually do not have an issue if an official decides he isnt going to blow for foul throws, as an example, or book for kicking the ball away. But he has to apply his decision to both sides. Two weeks in a row now, we have been caught.

I believe one of the Coachford B guys suffered a nasty injury at the weekend. Any update from the Coachford lads.

As a Littleman update, he came into our dressing room and was very gracious in defeat. Our lads were delighted with his few words. The Gratts will rise again, I have no doubt.

Yeah unfortunately for the player in question he had a nasty break, so best wishes for a speedy recovery. Was nt at that game and was away for the Ballyvolane game as well.

Big game for Grattan against Macroom, they really need a win as they look like they could struggle, which would have been unthinkable at the start of the season.

Castleview 2-3 Bohemians

Very phsical game played up Castleview today nobody was pulling out of challenges and there was a fair few yellows shown today!!
On the game like last week we nearly wrecked this game led 3-0 and again went lapsy daisy and conceded 2 stupid goals when this game should have really been wrapped up.
Went 1 up after 25 mins when Deccie Gostal got his head to a cross from Willy o Shea......Stayed that way till half time
2nd half we started the better and I made 2 nil !!!! after 55 mins and soon added a third when John Cronin finished off a great move off a Deccie Gostal pass.
But again like last week we seemed to take our foot of the peddle and fair play to Castleview they came back at us and scored 2 goals but infairness we had 2 more chances in the last 10 mins that should have finished them off
So thats 4 wins from 4 and we sit nicely at the top of the table....... finished wit Castleview now for the rest of the season thank god it will be no easy place for teams to come up there and take 3 points!

Lucky boys to get outta this game with 3 points. It was a different win to last week. We didnt showcase our game like we did against Grattan, but, boy did we dig deep. We went one up in the first minute - Keith Mc in midfield with a shot from outside the box. We had a lot of the game and had a few more chances. They came into it after half an hour, and were probably on the front foot from there. They equalised with quarter of an hour to go, but we went back in front following a defensive error on 80. Deighted with the win. Glenthorn played well. I had heard Brendan Long was good - he was very good. Other participants in the game were not so good.............

Well done to Mr Holden - and slipped it in subtley....I like that!

Great win today for Macroom but the result that was most impressive was Wiltons away win in Knockavilla. Wilton look to be very strong this year and with Grattan and Leeside struggling at the moment I think they will be Kinsales biggest challengers.

Macroom (B) 2 Killowen 0.

Our poor form away from home continues, played well in patches during the first half but didn't really test the Macroom keeper apart form one quickly taken free kick that he did well to parry. Macroom had the more clear cut chances in the half but their shooting left them down. When it seemed we were heading for the interval at 0-0, a mix up in communication at the back by us allowed Macroom through on goal and their striker made no mistake. We had it all to do in the second half as a wayward back pass allowed Macroom in for number two after an hour. Macroom then hit the post a minute later as we struggled to reproduce our first half display. We battled on gamely but couldn't break Macroom down despite putting them under pressure from set pieces. Our day was summed up in the 89th minute, we had a free kick in front of the Macroom goal, a powerful strike was heading goalwards until an outstreched leg deflected the ball around the post and unfortunately the ball ended up in the river. Guess which club the new match ball belonged to? That's the joys of football for you.

To be very honest, Donaldihno you have to admit ye were lucky to finish with eleven. Very lucky in fact. Your number six should of been sent off in the first 30 mins before your manager was forced to take him off cause it was only a matter of time before the ref was finally going to send him off. He was booked early on for stopping us from counter attacking and then came in late twice on our players on top of a hand ball which deserved a second yellow. Then in the second half i think it was yere number 5 came in very late when one of our players was on the floor catching him just below the knee while he was on the floor, but he only got a yellow card. Its challenges like that, that result it players getting badly injured.

In general it was a tough game with both sides going in strong for all the 50-50's and it was good to see as soon as the final whistle was blown that there was no animosity between the sides with everybody shaking hands.

The indirect free kick was a strange one alright, he certainly didn't mean to knock it back to the keeper.

Good weekend in Kinsale with our 3-0 win over Ballyvolane in the Mossie Semi.

I reckon BallyV must have been short a few as they didn't show up at all last saturday. They'll come good another day though.

The result flattered the northsiders, and only for their keeper they could've got a right hammering (4 excellent saves, in my opinion)
They had some good individuals - the right full impressed and the No. 9 threw a few shapes.
Damian O'Mahony also had a good game reffing - he got all the big decisions right and controlled the game well without throwing around the yellow cards like confetti.

Looking forward to Turners Cross now for the Mossie Linnane Final - I think it's great to run it off before Xmas as it's importance at this stage of the season is much higher than when it's run off in May/June.
Well done to the AUL for rescheduling the final for this time.

Any news on the team of the month for Aug/Sep/Oct???
It would be nice to get some recognition for our tidy start to the season.
(11 wins out of 11 games, with 8 clean sheets).

Early days though, and we realise more than anyone that the season is still only a pup.

Another tough game this weekend v unbeaten Crescent Ath in the FAI Jun.
Hopefully we can scrape past in this tricky away fixture.

Macroom B 2 Killowen 0

Macroom B took the spoils against Killowen at the Town Park on Saturday, with a hard fought 2-0 win.

In fact, this was a vital game for both sides. A win for either side meant they were mixing it at the top. A loss would mean being positioned in the lower half of the table, with an unwelcome potential battle to avoid relegation. Both sides started like they understood this, playing some neat passing football. Macroom nearly took the lead on 12, when an excellent through ball by Andrew Hegarty found Patrick Burns, whose effort was just wide. Next it was the away sides turn, when on 20 an excellent ball in from Greg Constant was headed over by Jason McCarthy. Constant lived up to his name in this one, by being a constant thorn in Macroom's side in the first half. His vision nearly allowed the first goal of the game, by playing through a superb ball on 23, but Macroom's Peter Burns was quick off the line to clear the danger. Killowen were limiting the home side to shots from distance, with Hegarty going closest. Macroom hit the front on 39, when Patrick Burns stayed onside and was more alert than the Killowen defence, raced clear and buried his shot past the onrushing Killowen keeper David Lynch. It was a vital goal just before half time, and what the home side slightly deserved.

The second half was end to end, with Killowen trying to find an equaliser, and Macroom using Darren and Patrick Burns pace on the break, supplied mainly by some excellent passing from Alan O'Connor and John Ronan. Some excellent wing play from Darren Burns on 60, in which he beat two men, including a sublime drag-back and nutmeg, allowed him to swing in a cross which Hegarty nearly met with a header. Abezoudhe Alaco's mazy run on 64 nearly got the equaliser but his shot was saved by Burns. Hegarty did get his goal on 69, when Patrick Burns swung in a ball, and following a slip from David Lynch in goal allowed Hegarty to stroke home from 6 yards to give Killowen a mountain to climb. The home side comfortably kept Killowen at the base of that mountain, and secured victory. Best for Macroom were Darren Burns, Alan O'Connor and Darragh Crowley. Best for Killowen were Abezoudhe Alaco, John McDonnell and Greg Constant.

To be fair to the referee it was a very tough game to control. It could have easily got out of hand with all the tackles flying in and scuffles but he did his job from that point of view. He did get the indirect free kick decision wrong in my opinion.

I couldn't really see if our centre half was offside for the goal or not from up the other side of the pitch so I can't give my opinion on that. Them decisions either go your way or they don't and in this case it went our way! Great finish though!

I agree with you, it would be great to have assistant refs on the line but I don't think there are enough refs there to dedicate 3 to a game. Towards the end of the season, in the games that are important, it would be a good decision for them to allocate additional refs as they do in the MSL, not just for the playoff promotion games. It all comes down to resources though and if they are not at their disposal there is not much they can do.

Is that the little guy Donaldinhio? He was very good in the Inter League Cup out in Casement in 2009. Big loss I'd say.

The horror tackle seems to be a rarer beast in general though or am I wrong?

Damien O Mahony is an excellent ref.

On the AUL panel announced - if I'm greedy, 2 others of ours could have had another look too!
I see some of the clubs who used the manager's policy of putting your players forward got rewarded. Nice one and best of luck.Maybe, they wouldnt have been seen otherwise.

Some seaside names missing - whats the story Shilts?

Some other names there who have yet to make heir seasonal debut in CSN.

Bella, Springfield were guests in Monard at the weekend and did not leave the best impression.

Our facilities are not much, but the four clubs out there are working together to do what we can with what we have and always working to improve them. I hate when fellas diss them. I always ask the question to myself - where those guys there when their team had what we have? Most times the answer is no.
