UCD's most famous non-player. :(
Had seen in WSC that he looked fairly unwell, but as ever, never expected this to happen so soon.

We've moved to a new open-plan section from the basement, and have the opportunity to interact with plenty of staff. A perk of being certified sane. Anywho what's this got to do with the "passing" thread....
On Monday one of the plebs from sector 7G was talking to a drone from Room 101 beside us. Pleb turns to drone and says "I hear yer man Socrates died". Drone replies "The footballer"? Cue our resident funny guy (forgetting he's in new open-plan area) "No, the fcuking philospher you pleb". Cue laughter. ANd dismissal.

"Gary Ablett, the only player to win the FA Cup with Liverpool and Everton, has died at the age of 46 following a battle against non-Hodgkin's lymphoma."
Only 46. Didn't even know he had been ill.

But I only just found out tonight that Richard Burns died in 2005.
Truly shocked. In my defence I was in Australia at the time AND George Best died on the same day.

Ian Paisley of the Paisley Free Presbyterian Church.
Sorry, I won't change the above as it wasn't meant as a slag, just that it was his own church.
Hospitalised with a heart attack, according to various sites, but I don't see any notice of his death.

The last BBC update (20:56) says he is being treated in hospital. Reading the coding in the reporting, it doesn't sound good: 'Baroness Paisley has released a statement confirming that her husband is being treated in the Ulster Hospital.
'She has requested that the family's privacy is respected at a difficult time.' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-16911310)
If the rumours turn out to be untrue, it may be wisest not to leave the last few posts up. The haste seems a little unseemly anyway.

Davd Kelly was the first "celebrity" that I ever met. I was 9 years old, and I met him at Dublin Airport.
He was in Robin's Nest on ITV at the time, playing a one-armed kitchen hand. All I remember thinking was - there's that bloke off the telly and he's got TWO arms!! I've never trusted anything that I've seen on telly since :(

Seems a bit strange , but I think he was meant to have made some sort of appearance at my local GAA pavillion back in the early '90s. I suppose it might have been true but you wouldn't hear of players doing those kinds of "tours" / appearances too much nowadays.
I walked into jjb in the square last week at lunchtime and Phil Taylor was playing an exhibition match. i'd say a lot of their money is still made that way.

Indeed they all make their money on exhibitions. They make serious money off those trips. Must do one a week across UK and Ireland at least.
