I generally try to stick to the "don't speak ill of the dead" thingy, so I'll make no comment.
Bye bye.

Hadn't heard about this and that's capped off quite a nice weekend :)

A true movie icon. Suffered in the shadow of Brando, during the fifties and later Nicholson, Pacino and De Niro, but every bit as great on his day as most anyone else. My favourites of his were Cool Hand Luke, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, and later on Road To Perdition.
A class act.

Back late to this thread but he was really good in Slap shot. he'll be missed.

Brought in a 'no away tickets unless invited by home fans' policy. Pushed Margaret Thatcher for identity card schemes. It would have been introduced in the 1988-89 season but for the Hillsborough diaster.

During the 'ban' on away fans one of the Saturday sports morning programmes put him up against the Man City chairman (match later that afternoon) to justify his policy. First time I seen or heard him, first time I disliked him. I presume Ken Bates has taken over the mantle of 'the most disliked chairman in English football' since.

Yeah - one of the good guys. Always struck me as a genuinely likeable, affable chap.

I don't think its too much of an over-statement to say that his pioneering drumming style is equally, if not more, influential than Bonham.

RIP to the late darts player Tom Kirby, any of you into the darts who knew him will remember a lovely gentleman who attended tournaments up and down the country. The 61-year-old has been fighting pancreatic cancer, and he passed away on Monday at Blanchardstown Hospital.

http://donegaldarts.com/images/stories/tomkirby.jpg

PDC Tournament Director Tommy Cox paid the following tribute:
I have lost a very dear friend with the sad passing of Tom Kirby.

Tom and others like him were the cornerstone of the formation of the WDC/PDC in that they were the first to put their heads over the parapet and join the initial 14 players who were looking for a brighter future for darts.

Tom was very much his own man and there were times when we disagreed but we never lost our mutual respect for each other.

His Irish humour shone through at all times and he has his place in history as the first winner of a full scale open qualification event under the flag of the fledgling Organisation when he qualified for the Samson Masters in Sunderland.

He became a fixture in the early Purfleet years and was active until shoulder and back problems saw him drop out of the upper echelon he had graced for so long.

Ironically Tom left a lasting legacy the last time I spoke to him when he introduced Andrew Spillane to me at the World Grand Prix in Dublin.

That introduction eventually led to the creation of the Killarney Darts Festival.

I'll always have a smile on my face when I think of Tom because his face was very rarely without one.

My condolences to his family and God bless Tom.

Viz used to be very funny.

Haven't read it in a long time, but it was genius at its best. Then it turned to complete pish.

Not really, no. Simon (the chap who posted on the late Steve Donald's website) was 'silent co-editor' for a spell earlier this decade.

Chris Donald (http://www.bbc.co.uk/tyne/content/articles/2005/05/12/picture_britain_chris_donald_feature.shtml) was the founding editor. He's the one who you may have seen on telly yapping about Viz. He was Ed until his near-breakdown in 1999, at which time a conglomerate of staff calling itself "Fulchester industries" took over the editors duties. This group included the writers & cartoonists Graham Dury, Simon Thorp, Davey Jones, Alex Collier & C&S Donald's younger brother Simon (http://www.channel4.com/culture/microsites/C/comedy_circuit/notonly.html).

Collier & Simon Donald left the editorial staff in 2003.
