He was the second American in space. Sometimes people quote the fact that he was born before Alan Shepard, which seems an odd stat. Shepard was the first American in space, Glenn the first in orbit. He also flew for the navy in Korea, and was a senator. Some life.

Alas, she passed away an hour ago. It really didn't sound good from the vague medical details; 20 minutes' CPR before the arrival of advanced care is not a good thing.

2016, a miserable, sadistic old ba5tard with an over-fondness for collecting icons, all too often before their time.
Unloved and unlamented, it was bumped off by its offspring, 2017, from whom we hope for better (though it’s welcome to keep company with Messrs Trump and Putin if it feels nostalgic for last year).

I think you mean coincidence rather than ironic ;)
Eminence Grise
29/01/2017, 4:28 PM
No, I meant ironic: the coincidence is self-evident The irony is, firstly, commentary on where we find ourselves 30-odd years after the film, and, secondly, because I'm sure there will be screenings of the film on various channels both because of his death and the increased sales, and some people who only know him from Harry Potter or Doctor Who may realise too late just how brilliantly he played that kind of role. Now, if you want to point out that I'm conflating the book and film, I couldn't argue with you there.;)
TheBoss
29/01/2017, 5:03 PM
I still don't see it from your explanation, to me its more of an apt coincidence than irony. Irony implies an event that is opposite to what is expected, I just don't see what is that opposite?
