RIPHeard this tonight. Gutted. Way too young to die.
What a legend.

Her brother had a sweet and paper shop in Tramore for donkey's years, she was practically a native!
A fabulous actress, borne to the stage by all accounts, but yeah not as at ease on TV, or at least not in the soap format. 'Course the writing did her no favours either.
She was great as Mrs Cadogan though. :)

Reality TV star Jade Goody has died at the age of 27, her spokesman Max Clifford has confirmed.

She died at home in
Upshire, Essex, overnight on Saturday after a battle with cancer.

Whatever her claim to fame, two little boys just lost their Mother on Mothers day. Hopefully Highlights cervical cancer can hit young women too.

Completely agree. My lad is the same age as her youngest and I'd hate to even think of mine being left without either of his parents.

Horrific story and horrifically quick.

Yes, some people say lifestyle in young girls can contribute to this illness and she manipulated the media, who have treated her passing like a game of football - but leaving aside all of that sick, distateful, but largely irrelevant chutney, hopefully the 2 lads will have a better life

She was born of the media and chose to die of the media. Whatever your opinion of her, she was brave in the face of her struggles and helped others facing a similar nightmare.

As a single mum it kills me to see what she has gone through. She is lucky Jeff seems a good dad, I know I couldnt let my kids live with their good for nothing waster of a dad and would have to rely on my parents to raise my kids and that is not fair on any of them.

Despite it all I have admired and liked Jade from day dot. I wear her perfume and will continue to buy it in the hope that some of the money will keep her boys safe and that her spirit & fight lives on.

RIP Ms Goody.

Not a fan of La Goody, but it is a sad day to see anyone die so young, so suddenly. It's bad enough hearing of people in their twenties dying in car accidents, but to die of cancer is dreadful. The fact that there are children left behind does make it worse, but I think that sometimes this covers the fact that a 27 year old dying of cancer should be disaster enough on its own. As Ringo said, hopefully it will encourage more people to go for screenings more regularly.

As one of those "geeks" who spent much of his time in his twenties playing D&D, was sad to see this:

Role-playing games pioneer dies

Dave Arneson, one of the co-creators of the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-play game, has died of cancer at 61 in a hospice in St Paul, Minnesota.

His two-year battle with the disease ended on Tuesday when he passed away peacefully, his daughter said.

Arneson created the game famous for its oddly shaped dice in 1974 along with the late Gary Gygax.

"The biggest thing about my dad's world is he wanted people to have fun in life," said his daughter Malia.

Arneson and Gygax developed D&D using medieval characters and mythical creatures and it was a worldwide hit, particularly among teenage boys.

It eventually was turned into video games, books and films.

"I think we get distracted by the everyday things you have to do in life and we forget to enjoy life and have fun," Malia Weinhagen told the Associated Press.

"But my dad never did. He just wanted people to have fun."

D&D, described by AP as "the quintessential geek pastime", spawned copycat games and later inspired a whole genre of computer games that is still growing in popularity.

"Arneson developed many of the fundamental ideas of role-playing: that each player controls just one hero, that heroes gain power through adventures and that personality is as important as combat prowess," said a statement from Wizards of the Coast, which produces D&D.

The company noted that Blackmoor, a game Arneson had been developing before D&D, was the "first-ever role-playing campaign and the prototype for all [role-playing game] campaigns since".

Arneson met Gygax, who died in March of last year, at a games convention in 1969.

He is survived by his daughter and two grandchildren.
