At the minute limerick havent signed anybody of real quality except young connor o donnell.it leaves us with two inexperienced young keepers?nobody as of yet who can score up front.not much hype or buzz around limerick at the minute about the new season and moving home to the markets field.dont know what the season ticket sales are like but i cant imagine a rush for them at the minute.
We've signed Paul O Connor which is probably our best new signing so far.
They'll be hard pushed to sell season tickets when no one knows what the stand or terrace in the markets field will be like.
Hopefully if the money is there we do use it towards the likes of Patterson. We need another striker of note pretty bad.

That genuinely just made my day.
That is why I love the man.

I almost feel sorry for Roddy Jr but something tells me he has nearly as much of a neck as his old man.

There is no doubt Hoban will be a huge act to follow and his hold up play and goals return was something I haven't seen in a Dundalk striker in possibly 30 years, so getting a replacement will be difficult. Another issue is we already have 3 strikers in, Byrne, McMillan and Jake Kelly, so there is probably only room for one more, so he needs to get the last one spot on.
Patterson might be a decent replacement but there would be doubts not just on his ability but if he was good enough to step up and join the league champions.
Some on oriel web are speculating the Mikey Drennan from Aston Villa might be a runner, Irish lad who is 20/21.
Are you taking the hand? Patterson when on form is probably the best striker in the league. If some of our players had his workrate up front we'd do fine.
He had an excellent 2013 season and finishing top scorer in the league considering Derry's position and points total was impressive. He did well last year and I think he finished on the same total as Mark O'Sullivan, so he's definitely a good replacement option for Hoban.
Kenny will probably be looking at others though, its possible if we had room for two more strikers he would have made a move by now, he's probably taking his time as we can only take in one more striker.
Then again Patterson will probably have other options himself, and he shouldnt have any problems finding a club.
No doubt Patterson will be looking for a challenge he can really get his teeth into.

If only Roddy Jr. had still been on the books for the cup final, he'd have stolen the show...

Considering his competition are a 14 year old goalkeeper, a lad who spent last year in a back brace and the managers son.

Paul O'connor is a quality player and most of all a very dedicated one at that, battles for every ball on the pitch, was surprised he didn't get more of a chance in Sligo, would have loved him at longford. His performance in the Sligo V Drogs cup final 2 years ago was nothing short of heroic.

I have to say that everyone I have spoken to is delighted to have gotten O'Connor, it's the second best bit of business we've done in the closed season so far - the best was getting rid of that excuse for a centre-half Folan!

And this was probably the main reason he got a contract for us. Good luck to him, he popped up with a few nice goals for us last season (the setanta winner will mean he is remembered long into Rovers history). Unfortunately he can go missing for long spells of games and dosent influence games enough for CM. He did actually get plenty of game time for us ... 28 games in 2014.

I personally think O'Conor will be a good signing for us may not have had the best of times at Sligo but tbf Sligo didn't have the best of times as a whole last season, was always impressed with him in his UCD days and more-so at Drogs I thought he was very good with them. Can never tell some clubs just don't suit players others do Sligo fans don't really rate O'Conor I don't really rate Folan both could turn out to be excellent signings.
What are Drogs fans thoughts on his time with them?
Nah Nah Nah Nah
26/12/2014, 11:05 AM
I wouldn't write O'Conor off after last season. Saw enough of him before that to know he's a decent player. Not too many from our squad last season could be happy with how they played.

O'Conor took a lot of abuse from Drogheda fans during his time there. He replaced Crowley and wasn't fit to lace his boots according to many fans in Hunky Dorys.

Battler he was, but he certainly is not a quality player at Premier Division level.
was surprised he didn't get more of a chance in Sligo
He played 33 times for us last year. More than enough chances to prove himself.

from the derry journal
SHANE McEleney appears to be attracting more attention than Derry City’s second transfer listed player, Rory Patterson, if the League of Ireland rumour mill is to be believed.
Indeed, highly respected sources in Dublin have suggested that the towering centre-back is now interesting St. Patrick’s Athletic who put Derry City to the sword in the 2014 FAI Cup Final.
While Shamrock Rovers and Limerick have been given permission to speak to both players, Galway United and Sligo Rovers had also made approaches in relation to McEleney’s current position.
However, Sligo boss, Owen Heary, is understood to have since agreed terms with former Limerick defender, Stephen Folan which is believed to have diluted any further interest from the ‘Bit O’Red.’
New Galway boss, Tommy Dunne, also made contact with his former club enquiring about McEleney’s availability, but nothing seems to have materialised on that front either.
However, interest from the Dublin Southside club, could well prove interesting given that Hull City appear to be keen on attracting the services of Pat’s accomplished young centre-half, Sean Hoare.
Sources in Dublin have claimed that St. Pat’s had made contact with Derry City seeking permission to speak with McEleney.
And with SteveBruce having already signed Cork City youngster, Brian Lenihan, for what is understood to be a bargain basement transfer fee in Premiership terms, he is now keen to add a central defender given that Republic of Ireland international, Paul McShane, is currently out of favour.
And it comes as no surprise that Hoare remains on Hull’s horizon as he had been watched during last November’s FAI Cup Final against the “Candy Stripes” in the Aviva Stadium.
Voted last season’s St. Pat’s “Young Player of the Year,” the 21-years-old has impressed in the company of the club’s experienced centre-half, Kenny Browne.
“Hull have already been in contact with St. Pat’s in relation to signing Sean Hoare during the British Transfer Window, which opens this Thursday,” confirmed the source.
“And, therefore, St. Pat’s hope to add another centre-back to the first team panel if the move materialises,” he added.
I failed to make contact with either the player or, indeed, Derry City boss, Peter Hutton, last night to confirm the speculation.
However, it is understood that both McEleney and, indeed, the club’s top striker, Rory Patterson, remain on the Brandywell club’s books.
Both players have a year remaining in their respective contracts and while that remains the case, it’s doubtful if team boss, Hutton, will be adding any new faces to his squad for 2015.
Indeed, Hutton had made it abundantly clear over recent weeks that he cannot offer deals to new players until he succeeds in getting others off the wage bill.
Ex Dundalk player Danny Kearns, possibly being released by Carlisle, heard Pats might be interested.

Thought he was a bit shaky when he first got into the first team, but he developed into a fine player and had a very good season. Would be a loss if he went for Pats. I was also convinced we would lose Gannon, he still might go mid season.

Never saw anything impressive any time i saw Hoare, just felt Pats got overexcited because he was young & looked like their best CB without considering who the competition was

He was never Pats best CB and I don't think anyone has said that.
What he is though is the most assured centre half I've seen at that age in this league. It is very. very rare for a player to go from under 19s to first team and look like he belongs there. Even rarer for a centre half

If Pats pocket a big wedge of a transfer fee they have every reason to be excited. If it is an overly large wedge then overexcited is appropriate
