This is the only transfer confirmed today by Dundalk.
The only thing unclear is the lenght of the deal, The Irish Sun is saying its a 2 year deal.

Opinions on Dean Clarke and Sean Russell from the UCD lads? I've seen them both a few times and my opinion is very low.

Is that Sean Russell, Martin Russell's son that played for him at UCD and then ourselves and Shels last year, or a different one? If it's the same one he couldn't get in our team or Shels' most of the time.

Ya its just daddy taking care of him which I absolutely hate.

Not a great signing alright, he's not awful but he won't add much. Not a Premier Division player from what I saw of him. Pushed around too easily.

Clarke was injured all last season, which cost us. Pacey forward who got double figures in 2013 I think. If he's over his injuries, he'll do a job.
Russell is ok but nothing more really.

18/12/2014, 6:41 PM
Russell's absolutely no addition. I was happy to see Shels sign him last year when we were in direct competition with them and I'm happy to see Limerick sign him now when we'll probably be in direct competition with them next year. A gust of wind would knock him over. No pace. Offers nothing but a decent left foot.

Crazy stuff going on at Derry, they must be getting it really tight for money.
Patterson will have his pick of sides you would imagine.

I wouldn't say 'pick'. He is desperately hard work after all and he'll have to be the main man wherever he goes.
We're in a complete mess at the moment.
Shane McEleny comes across as just been a wee bit pished off in this interview following his release from Derry yesterday and is blaming the clubs demise on Roddy.

It's the board's fault, not Roddy's.
Shane is right to be fecked off.
We're going backwards at a shocking pace.
No attempt is being made to market the club in the town. We only had season tickets and tops on sale from last week, for example.
Season ticket sales will be down again next year, and by getting rid of our top striker, the casual fan will be even less inclined to take in a game.
Disgusted with the direction this club is being taken on.

I agree with EVERY DCFC fan on the forum here, Im so disgusted with the attitude of the club at the moment. Directors giving Roddy money last year and 6 of the players he bought not even completing the season with us. The direction of the Club is non existent, i run a Junior club in England and its much more Professionally ran than DCFC, the club has no Structure with regards Commercial Development, Marketing Development, Strategic Development. Its the biggest time of Year for Clubs Selling Club Merchadise but our Club doesnt have much stock for Kids no Tracksuits no Full Kits for Kids, ( Just the Jerseys ), No videos of last season etc the list is endless. We have no proper YOUTH system, a Club of our size should have teams from U7/8 upwards to U20's and looking at bringing through the best local and beyond talent in the area and playing in leagues in the North and tournaments all across UK and Europe. Instead we let our Captain, Top Goalscorer and best players go. Today they announce the clubs 30th Anniversary draw 1st Price £50k at £50 a ticket just before Xmas. Who in their right mind will buy at Ticket or a season ticket for next season with the club in the state its in. Grow Up Directors of DCFC and let the fans know what Direction this club is going, cause I know I could do a Better Job of Merchandising the Club and Promoting it better than its current being Done.

I think Patterson will go to the Irish League. He seems to have a horrendous attitude on and off the pitch. It seemed he rarely celebrated when he scored and I remember him fighting with a team mate late in the season, think the UCD game.
Linfield are in big need of a striker so think he'll probably join them.

Read something earlier where it was reported that LMFM radio were saying he could be close to signing with Dundalk. The tweet was sent by @LiveatOriel, they get some right, some not.

Saw something in The Star that Dundalk were still looking for a replacement for Hoban. Patterson would be one of the few available ones in the league of that level.

Would Patterson have the workrate Kenny demands from a striker though? Can't see everything sticking to Patterson the way it did Hoban.

Garbhan Coughlan and Shane Cusack complete moves from Limerick to Athlone. Coughlan's spent plenty of time in Athlone before now, Cusack's a decent enough, if not Barry Ryan-level, keeper.

There is no doubt Hoban will be a huge act to follow and his hold up play and goals return was something I haven't seen in a Dundalk striker in possibly 30 years, so getting a replacement will be difficult. Another issue is we already have 3 strikers in, Byrne, McMillan and Jake Kelly, so there is probably only room for one more, so he needs to get the last one spot on.
Patterson might be a decent replacement but there would be doubts not just on his ability but if he was good enough to step up and join the league champions.
Some on oriel web are speculating the Mikey Drennan from Aston Villa might be a runner, Irish lad who is 20/21.

Yes, Folan announced today and Heary says one more to sign in January (prob Elding). Twenty players signed now and pre-season starts on Jan 12.

Folan is better than McEleney. Most centre halves in the league are
Patterson could easily be a 25 goal striker for Dundalk (or any other decent side that signs him)

Im not so sure. Folan played with Henderson at Newcastle for the underage and Reserves teams too, which can only help. Could be more versatile than McEleaney to? He mentioned in his interview about being able to play a few different positions.

He was poor last season the bits he played but before that any time I have seen him at least he has been very solid.

Folan is a poor player though was majorly carried by Oji last season as soon as Sam was injured or suspended we saw what Folan was like and it was not good. Like you say playing with Henderson might get the best out of him or even having Heary teaching him might improve him, but I haven't heard a single Limerick fan yet sad to see him go.

I don't doubt ya and I haven't seen enough of Folan to comment meself. If Peers and Henderson are fit they would be my first choice and they are as good as any centre back partnership around. Keeping them fit could be the problem. Injuries will play a huge part in how our season plays out I think. The year we won the league we were very lucky with injuries, the two seasons since we have been hit badly by injuries.
In some ways it might be a similar situation for Dundalk next season. We won the league without too many injuries as did Dundalk I think! (Bar O'Donnell). Dundalk have a very nice wee squad but as we found out trying to defend a league, injuries can kill a small talented squad when everyone raises their games and wants to beat the Champions.
If we can build and establish the bones of a good team, and make a decent push for Europe, I'd be happy with that. Most would Id say.

Folan's tackling, positioning and distribution needs to be worked on in a major way before he could even be considered a semi-decent centre-half.

If we replace him with Tony Whitehead he'll be a loss.
If we replace him with a fully competent LoI Premier standard centre half we'll have made an improvement.
All the early indicators are that we'll be replacing him with Tony Whitehead.

There was a big offer made to Ronan Finn that didn't wind up being accepted. Limerick will need both a marquee player and a replacement for Gaffney in the first season at MF, and Patterson could easily cover both.

At the minute limerick havent signed anybody of real quality except young connor o donnell.it leaves us with two inexperienced young keepers?nobody as of yet who can score up front.not much hype or buzz around limerick at the minute about the new season and moving home to the markets field.dont know what the season ticket sales are like but i cant imagine a rush for them at the minute.

I have zero issue with cutting costs if needed.
What I'm not prepared to accept it cutting costs without any attempt made to increase revenue.
We're pathetic.
