I am not knocking ucd players but if he was that good i am sure some of the big dublin teams would have snapped him up by now.he is only a young lad,we need mature experienced loi players.martin russell probably knows him well but i just think that we need to be aiming higher if we want to stay in the top half of the league.

I think pineapple stu was saying that the kid more or less did a runner on UCD and turned up playing for Trinity in a colleges game. Never told anyone he'd changed colleges.

Delighted with Djilali signing, he's the type of player we need.

How much has Limerick's budget been reduced by for next year?

On one hand we are hearing Pat has completely pulled his money from the first team squad but on the other we are hearing the club are talking to some very good players and have 7 or 8 of last seasons squad signed back up already so its hard to know if the budget has moved at all at this stage.

Do you think he will be a starter ? He didn't do much at Limerick and I don't recall hearing good reports from his last year with Sligo, to be fair he was decent a few years ago, good strenght too, not sure he can still deliver that, but no harm taking a punt I suppose. I'd see him as a squad player.

Billy Dennehy and Liam Kearney are literally our only wide players. If hes fit and works hard in pre season Right Wing is his for the taking.

Also.. hes 23, its not like hes over the hill

Well that's true. Is that Kavanagh lad a right full? I think it was him who put in that cross just before Gartland got the second for us in the big match last month, the one where Lehann just flashed wide, it was probably the best cross of the night.

He is. He's a good replacement for Lenihan. It was incredible that he didn't start that night.

Oh dear..... You do realize that it isn't the actually budget Limerick had, or FIFA play station game budgets aren't any teams correct budget and are made up budgets in the game?

What do [banned - deleted] fans think of Dave Webster? Seems like he's signed for Rovers. 25 years old so Nutsy must see him as someone who can do a job now rather than in the future.

Really? Webby is a great lad and a decent defender, he should become a better player playing and training with better players all the time but has a very bad habit of picking up the odd red card. The only thing i would say is that i don't think he is any better that what you have had over the past few years, defo not a step up. All the best to him though, top bloke and hope it works out well for him.

Have heard from a very reliable source in the UK that Mansfield Town are looking at bringing in John Caulfield as their new boss following the departure of Paul Cox. Interest is only one way at the moment from what Ive heard on behalf of the club with no formal contact or reciprication from City. Big blow for City if this happens.

There was some speculation that Stephen Kenny was talking to Webster and was interested in signing him, presumably as cover for right back and centre back.

He is probably a decent squad player - if he were at Dundalk I would be surprised if he displaced Gannon, Gartland or Boyle. Perhaps Rovers would provide more first team chances for him

It doesn't? What about Football Manager? I managed to cheat the game and gave Bohs a budget €3million. Does that mean we won't get the €3million a year budget in real life? I better ring the club to tell them. I just hope that Celtic have paid us that £4m for Keith Buckley?!!

Are you sure that was football manager or any other football sim for that matter? If only Zurich bank and ground sales were one big game for somone at Bohs.

Yeah he's a bit like Finn, looked certain to go over at one stage and hasn't worked out yet, he turns 22 in a few weeks so he'll probably get 1 or 2 more chances to go across.

I've been one of the people saying he shouldn't be allowed to play again unless his appeal is successful but been a selfish football fan I would love to see him playing for De Town, was a quality goal scorer in England and earned himself caps with Wales so he is way above LOI level. Of course this is all just a mad fantasy

Webster will prove to be a good signing for ye Charlie, matured in to a better player for us with the captaincy and his experience, can play centre back or right full which gives Pat options where to play him, got a sweet strike in him also! Best of Luck to him, Massey and Shields improved when they moved to Dundalk so will Dave Webster with Rovers.

Interesting piece from Roddy, and he has been supported on his judgement of the quality on display at the cup final. I was at the game and the fans created a great atmosphere, but the style and skill-level of soccer was not great. Saw a 2nd level Scottish game over the weekend on BBC Alba and the standard was better than our league, although I could see our top teams(4) being able to compete with better fitness etc. Mark Steward who was at Derry was playing for Raith who lost 2 nil to Queen of the South; who are 3rd behind Rangers and ahead of Hibs. Maybe if Pat Fenlon had started off at the level Hibs are at now things would have worked out for him in Scotland.

Felix Healy, Pat Dolan, Damien Richardson and myself have won the league title since the late 1990’s but are without clubs.

Felix Healy is a spoofer of the highest degree who made an absolute meal of his second time at Harps and couldn't be booted out the door quick enough.

Pat Dolan is a media pundit. Why would he go back into management when he's getting well enough paid for his media work.

Damien Richardson just left Drogheda.

Why do people still entertain Roddy Collins?

Keith Long — who should have kept Athlone up — replaces Heary at Dalymount.

The man talks some amount of Brown Stuff, personally I thought Keith did well when he came in and was just a bit unlucky, good luck to the lad with Bohs.

As it happens i was checking something out yesterday and noticed this UCD team from 2008 (they were relegated in 2009). Bear in mind Ronan Finn was a member of the UCD this season as well
http://extratime.ie/fixtures/detail/10246/2/

Look at their bench that day FFS. If they could hold onto their players they could win leagues.
Actually, we were relegated in 2008 - so that's the team that took us down.

Yup. Great player on his day. Huge potential. Application may be suspect. Have heard he's the kind of guy who'd turn up to training on the Saturday asking "Wait - did we have a match last night?"

IMHO Roddy is correct in his assessment of Lge2 versus LOI.
LOI Champions would not be in The top 4 of Lge2.
Lge2 Champions would also win LOI

Charlie Darwin
25/11/2014, 3:20 PM
Comparing LOI teams to any level in England is missing the point. It's a different league with a different variance in quality and a different number of games. Of course the LOI champions would struggle to win League Two - they'd need to add 5-10 players to their squad to cope with the workload.

Putting it through the RoddyTranslate that reads "They wouldn't have gone down if they'd kept me on".

More like 'Id have fooked off before last game...never been relegated me!'

Has he forgtten that he left Athlone for the job he always wanted? He could have fought galantly against relegation with Athlone rather than dismantling a European qualification squad at Derry and may have even kept his job at Athlone for the season if hed been even remotely better than Cooke.
