You never know, i would give us a fighting chance.
Why have you got Dundalk down to play Sofia when you dont know if they will win their first round match yet? And why do you say " After they beat TNS " for the bohs match.? You seem to know who is going to win in all the games .
It's just predicting, just to make the sentences shorter I didn't say " I think" for every line.
I think its 1 points for a win divided by the number of teams from your country which is 4 for the LOI. Therefore a Bohs/Dundalk/Fingal/Rovers win would give 0.25 or a draw 0.125. I think that doubles at a later stage not sure at what point though possibly the round before the group stage in both competitions not sure though.

Last year NI got 0.125 and lost every game except for 1 draw (Crusaders 1-1 rabotnicki) so i'm guessing in the qualifying rounds it's 0.125 for every draw
wales got 0.333 and outside of defeats the only thing they got was a win (motherwell 0-1 llanelli) so i suppose a win is still worth 0.333 to the co-efficient.

I think thats because Wales have only 3 teams, therefore their 1 point is divided across 3 teams.

TNS beat (http://www.saints-alive.co.uk/index.php/component/content/article/42-rokstories/613-saints-too-strong-for-the-glenmen) Glentoran 2-0 in a friendly in Belfast on Saturday. Article says they play Linfield this week.

According to the Birkirkara website the Andorrans are still re-laying the pitch - madness:
Birkirkara FC had a training session today in the "Estadi Comunal d'Andorra la Vella". This is the ground to be used for tomorrow’s first leg encounter of the Champions League fixture. Much to the dissapointment of our Club, the pitch was found to be in a very bad state. The pitch is waterlogged mainly due to the heavy rain. The laying of carpet grass only a few hours before this training session, was another reason why the pitch is in this terrible shape.
Mr.John Borg, Birkirkara FC's Vice President and International Liason, has shown his dissaproval, in the name of our Club, with the UEFA delegate in a meeting convened on purpose to discuss this matter.
To make matters worse, more rain is forecast for tomorrow afternoon. Also, the laying of the rolls of the new grass is not yet finalised, and will continue tomorrow.

Looks like B'kara will be awarded the game 3-0, though UEFA haven't confirmed this. The return won't have to worry about waterlogging - even if it did pour, it's on the astro in the Centenary Stadium (I think Pats fans will have fond memories).
Some Pats fans won't have any memories... ;)
Match was played in the hottest weather I've encountered. The shop in the ground had a big tub of ice free to use and anyone going back for a drink had to being tons of the stuff back just so we'd cool down. sold beer too for a half an hour before UEFA delegate told them to stop.
Terrible game, won by a great Fabio header

Looks like Dundalk have wasted much needed cash getting their stadium up to the minimum specifications set down by UEFA - other clubs have been allowed to simply not comply with the same regulations but allowed to participate...
Meanwhile, TNS have confirmed that they will play the home leg of the tie, on July 20, at their own ground of Park Hall. It had been suggested that the game would be moved to a bigger venue due to a restricted capacity of 1,000 at the ground, but UEFA will allow TNS to play the game there
Port Talbot Town have received notification from UEFA that The GenQuip Stadium will be able to host the UEFA Europa League match against TPS Turku of Finland.
A delegate from UEFA inspected the ground last week ahead of the 1st qualifying round draw and confirmed on Monday that the ground will be able to host Europa League football.
Port Talbot Town travel to Finland to take on TPS Turku on Thursday, 1st July with the return leg at The GenQuip Stadium on Thursday, 8th July.
The decision to allow Port Talbot Town to play the most important match in the clubs history at home is testament to the many ground improvements that have taken place over the last ten years and just reward for the investment and dedication that has made the ground what it is today.
The GenQuip - even with all those improvements and investments still falls short of the minimum seating requirement for that competitions by 500 seats (or a whole one-third)
Maybe the officials at Oriel Park should request a cheque from UEFA to cover the unnecessary expenditure they've incurred in installing those extra seats

All in all,im still glad the money was spent on the ground(even if it means less money for more players). The clubs owner is a property developer and other business in the building sector.so all work would be done at cost price.
And who know how long he will be around for.so when you can get it cheap do it.
And the ground looks much better for it!
would this be the cue for Sprouting Fungus to look at the possibility of their games being played in Santry?
will the Dundalk game be streamed online anywhere does anyone know? Wouldnt mind watching it if possible...
Good luck tomorrow to all the Dundalkkk posters! Hoping for a good result for you.

It's not down for TV coverage so I highly doubt it will be anywhere. There's always the chance that it will be beamed from one satellite to the other and can be picked up free-to-air by someone with the right equipment, not likely considering it's a 1st round game. It'll probably just be recorded like MNS do.

Well, if you ask me (and I know it's not the point you're making) the regulations are unnecessary. Many of the games at this level will have crowds of less than a thousand, some less than 500. Port Talbot might be expecting around 900 for their game against the Finns (901 if I decide to pop down) and TNS would be expecting the same if it were anyone but Bohemians they were playing. Welsh clubs are already hard-pressed for cash, so UEFA coming in late in the day saying 'oh, by the way guys, we need you to triple your seating capacity, but no pressure or anything' is not exactly very smart thinking. Seems reasonable to allow these teams to play their games at home, even if Dundalk have essentially been screwed.

Except it isn't late in the day as Irish clubs have needed 3,000 seats for the past number of years.

i was browsing through the europa league and ended up on the settings for the 2011-12 edition and i found that if ireland moves up one place in the co-efficient table, the teams in the 2nd qual round of the europa league will be seeded.
that's a big enough incentive in itself i would imagine.

All the hard work that was put in over the last few years might actually pay off. It would be unreal if it did, and this is the last hurdle. It would just give clubs a bit of breathing space, even a psychological advantage

Itll probably need an unreal year to move us up one place though. If we managed it it'd be great but with 3 teams essentially making their european debuts its asking a lot. With the demise of Derry, Cork and Drogheda its difficult for our new representatives to get seeded. The big dissapointment is that Pats aren't in the Europa, the points they have built up in the past two seasons would have put them in a strong position with regard to seeding and may next year as well.
Good luck to Dundalk anyway, hopefully they can get the LOI european challenge off to a good start

Well it's not quite seede, although clubs at 28th place do enter at a later stage.
Access for the current season 2010/11.
http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/accesslist/index.html
As can seen IRL is currently at 30th spot (they are expected to move up a place to 29th next year 2011/12).
This puts them on a borderline with the upper group. If UEFA winners of 2011 come from a probable Champions League Group qualifer, it will have a 'knock-on' effect. Benefiting around 3 or 4 teams on the borderline of upper groups.
Because of the vast increase of games (points available) since the founding of the Europa League groups, Leagues have to increase their points gained just to stand still.
Regarding the spread of representative clubs per year.
It's good that a few clubs took the initiative and went high above the IRL average. But, as with Development, it's necessary to spread the knowledge around. So other clubs get to be familiar with certain routines and learn to understand other challenges.
But you can't beat experience. With all the talk of the disruption to the domestic programme, Bohemians negotiated Tues. and Tues. dates and their domestic programme remains unaffected.
I do believe part of the recent success 40th (2006/07) - 35th (2007/08) - 35th (2008/09) -30th (2009/10) - 30th (2010/11 - 29th? (2011/12) is down to the number of representatives and the shallow ramp those clubs took in gaining co-efficient points.
Whether it's better and a 'presentation of success' to have IRL teams with a chance of winning an early round and then meeting a bigger club, or alternatively as a cup competition entering as high as possible and taking it from there.
The same argument goes for a yo-yo domestic club in anywhere in Europe. Getting promoted, but then relegated every few years.

Northern ireland obviously dont take european participation as seriously as we do (most years stories appear of players on hols up to and including match day.). The winter football season does not help their participation in europe but they obviously feel it cmpensates in other ways.

Time of the year to start getting envious at other clubs again... (Although the way this season is going for us, it could be our year next year - you never know! :) )
Best of luck to Dundalk anyways.
Interesting that Ciarán Martyn is one of those on holidays for Glentoran; you'd have thought he'd played often enough in Europe to not have that attitude towards it.

anywhere to hear or watch the game?
I'm rather confused as to why I keep hearing these stories about Northern Irish clubs letting their players go away for holidays during their European seasons. It doesn't make any sense.
I've read here that Champions' League money is approximately £300k for taking part, and £100k for each round of qualifiers you progress in. Taking away let's say £15k for travel and research for the away leg, plus whatever policing costs are necessary for the home leg, that still leaves the club with a basic incentive of about £90k to progress to the next round, and that's not even counting gate money or any money which might be recieved if the game is shown on TV. Why don't they just say, 'alright lads, if you win this tie you all get a £1,000 bonus' or whatever, and make sure their best players are there and motivated, to give them a fighting chance.
OK, I realise the money is less for the Europa League but it is not insignificant either. In any case, you never hear of this elsewhere so is it just something peculiarly related to Northern Ireland? Seems strange anyhow.

I think Rovers have a decent chance to qualify, both sides were not too great. Bnei were happy sit back for a draw and bring them back to Israel to finish the job.
Looking at some of the scores there with next week in mind, Port Talbot who finished 3rd in Wales are losing 3-0 away to TPS who are in 7th place in Finland and its not even half time. I know TNS are probably a level above Port Talbot but really anything other than comfortable progression for Bohs next week will be very dissapointing.

Brave move to play a very small forward in goal and a keeper up front. I think Foster may be suffering from slight over confidence there.
