Now its to time to do some research on all the teams we are playing :)
Are Maretimo on the island of Madeira - rather than the mainland - somewhere north west of the Canaries?
Nice spot - but flights less frequent and much more expensive?
Good spot. Got my portuguesee teams mixed up there.

I look at euro games 3 ways; likelihood of winning it, what sort of jolly is it, will the club make some money on it.
I think Rovers have been screw on all 3 fronts. I’d expect the Israelis to get through, as that league is fairly strong. The fans would only have a week to organise a trip there, and obviously a fair bit of expense. Now, they’ll probably get a decent home crowd (by far more than the other Irish clubs), its stil going to cost them a fortune to get there. Add in hiked up security costs (in flotilla protest way) and it’s a logistical nightmare.
Fingal may have the hardest task but they have the nicest trip. Probably won’t be a crowd puller but flghts to Portual are cheap and plentiful.
Dundalk should win the first tie, meaning they’r ein bonus time in Europe. Anything else they get is gravy.

Bnei Yehuda may be down as favoourites for both matches and they have a small bit of European experience.
But I think Bnei Yehuda will be vunerable if they play in both rounds.
FC Ulysses ( takes them four or five attempts before fans get to finish reading a match report).
Armenia FF
http://www.ffa.am/en/
(don't know if the contact details within are useful).
They seem to be from Yerevan, which is always helpful.
As Shamrock Rovers are at home they have two weeks to arrange transport and accomodation. Which gives fans hoping to travel time to get the 7 day Saturday night stay options. Using a Travel Agent, as the FC will do, may allow time to hold two differentr itineraries and drop one when the destination is confirmed.
It would be awful if there was controversy during the 1st rd. game and Shamrocjk Rovers fans had to wait an extra day or two until appeals were exausted.
Madeira is down in the middle of the Atlantic (why does UEFA allow these teams off Africa to compete in Europe?).
But there should be flights from Mainland Europe (outside of Portugal) almost everyday.
Seven night package would be a good trip too. (what harm to the miss the other leg).

Awful draw for us, finally back in European competition and we end up with two non-European potential opponents.

The third qualifying round will be split into two separate sections: one for champions and one for non-champions. The losing teams in both sections will enter the play-off round of the 2010–11 UEFA Europa League.
So if Bohs beat TNS then lose in the 3rd round they will be in the playoff round of the Europa. Sounds good. I'm confident they'll beat TNS without any problems.

By controversy I mean when more than party have has a problem and puts in a protest against another party regarding the result of a game.
I don't agree with your view on geography.
The Armenian U21's played in tallaght recently and I hope an Armenian club side gets to play there too this season.
I'm sure there's some fans from Cork who travelled to the Soviet Union to watch Ararat Yerevan that might be able to help Rovers fans with Hotels and Airlines.
In other trampelled grass news Bohs fans should enjoy their trip to Wales/England.
Good luck to all the eight clubs and everyone travelling.
harpo, the 7 night packages aren't really a runner if fans wish to see their teams' league games. After Rovers would be playing a league on the Sunday after their home leg (and away leg) (unless the league changes things from the previous three years)

Dodge,
I meant 7 night package to Madiera and a 7 day advance purchase of tickets for medium-haul flights.
If costs are an issue, this reduces those issues. You keep throwing in more issues though.
Your post does remind me that Shamrock Rvs v. UCD is down for the weekend after they return from their 2nd leg on the other side of the Continient. UCD may play a game against Sligo Rovers in The Showgrounds. So UCD will be travelling for nearly the same length of time as Shamrock Rovers.
Bray Wanderers came back from there trip on the Black Sea against Trabzonspor and beat us at Belfield Park in the League Cup the day after.
Another time Roddy Collins stated UCD were "trying to pull a fast one" because we held firm on playing a league game on a Sunday, moving it back from the Friday, and not Monday as Collins wanted.
TNS will look at the tie against Bohemians as a chance to go through but will consider themselves underdogs. Their record in Europe is not very impressive but in the last few years all their ties have been close. (4-4 away goals defeat, 0-2 agg. defeat, 2-4 agg. defeat) Bohemians were probably one of the easier teams they could have got and they will be pleased to have avoided Rosenborg and others.
They actually have some decent players including Steve Evans who has 7 caps for Wales and played in the Euro 2008 qualifier between Wales and Ireland at Croke Park which we lost 1-0. Defensively they have a lot of experience and they are full-time professionals, so I don't think they will embarrass themselves. However, don't expect a huge crowd for the second leg at Park Hall. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more Bohemians fans than TNS at that.
Incidentally, they have a plastic pitch at their home ground. Could be a factor.

Lots of advice on travel, hotels, pubs etc. on Yerevan in the Ireland forum in advance of the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifier this September.
As a summary, it'll be hot as hell (47 degrees for an evening kick off when Derry played there), expensive to get to, but worth visiting IMO.

Don't know if it's been asked already but how are TNS automatically in the 2nd round? Fantastic draw for Bohs, not too confident for the rest- very tough opposition. Travel to Armenia/Isreal for us will cost a fortune too....
both ties to be played on the Tuesdays.
MEDIA RELEASE BOHEMIAN FC 21 JUNE 2010
Following today's draw for the qualifying rounds of the Champions League, Bohemian FC announces that it will play Welsh champions TNS (The New Saints) in Dalymount Park on Tuesday, 13th July, and away on Tuesday, 20th July.
Bohs manager Pat Fenlon described the draw as good from a travel point of view, and looked forward to a good turn-out from the Bohemian fans.
"It's important that we have the first round at home. It will not be an easy tie. They are a decent side," Fenlon said.
"We'll watch them in their friendly against Glentoran. We'll have our homework done on them by the time we meet."

It`s probably the easiest tie we could have got and we`re the easiest tie they could have got. Not much between the teams I would have thought on current form. Plastic pitch looks woeful.

One tiny little problem with TNS's ground - it doesn't meet UEFA Requirements.
From the 2010 UEFA Stadium Regulations:
Article 16 – Stands and spectator facilities
1 Seats for spectators must be individual, fixed (e.g. to the floor), separated from one another, shaped, numbered, made of an unbreakable and non-fl ammable material and have a backrest of a minimum height of 30 cm when measured from the seat.
2 The use of temporary stands is prohibited. (Temporary stands: seating which, by virtue of its material, design and construction, is clearly intended for use for a very limited period and is not fixed to a suitable load-bearing foundation.)
3 The stadium must be equipped with refreshment and catering facilities for all spectators in every sector of the stadium.
Article 20 – Spectator capacity
In terms of spectator capacity, a stadium must meet the following requirement:
Category 1: Provide a grandstand with at least 200 seats.
Category 2: The stadium must have a capacity of at least 1,500 seats.
Category 3: The stadium must have a capacity of at least 4,500 seats.
Category 4: The stadium must have a capacity of at least 8,000 seats.
Elite: Provide at least 30,000 seats, including a minimum of 22,500 covered ones.
Park Hall only has 1,000 permanent seats.
Just been studying details of Welsh Premier Grounds - only one of them meets the 1,500 seat minimum - and that's Rhyl...
Therefore they'll HAVE to move the game to Rhyl or Wrexham - as they can't put temporary seating in - and they're the only North Walian grounds that meets requirements.
Latham Park in Newtown (where Carmarthen dismantled Longford) just falls short - it has 1,250 permanent seats.
If they're allowed to get away with either temp seating or playing the game with only the 1,000 then it'll be a kick in the teeth for clubs like Dundalk who have spent money and time bringing their stadia up to the correct capacity

say this happens (in my head most likely) and being quite realistic edging towards optimism on shams and dundalks behalf's :)
Bohs: win first 2 games, then draw, loose in the next two, and then draw, loose in the two after
shams: win,draw, then draw,loose
dundalk: win,win then loose,loose
fingal: draw,loose
just out of interest where would results like this put us co-efficient wise?

Basically this is what is needed for us to stand still in the ranking.
We are, more or less, the highest ranked country never to have a team in the group stages of a uefa competition. The only way to move up the rankings at this stage would be qualification for the group stages.
Basically we're going to start yo-yoing up and down 4 or 5 places. Unless with a lucky draw/good performances someone starts geting to those group stages once every 4/5 years.
Oh, and having the same teams qualify regularly, picking up their own co-efficient also helps - improves chance of a better draw in the earlier rounds.

Lets hope Bohs get an easy draw after they beat TNS. They'd want to avoid Basel, Anderlecht, Copenhagen and Rosenborg to stand a chance of getting to the play off round. Of which they go into the EL group stages if they lose. So I think theres good chance for Bohs in this.
I don't think Dundalk can beat Levski Sofia, and that will be the end of their run.
Fingal won't get past Maritimo.
Rovers will get past Ulisses/Bnei Yehuda, and hopefully a lucky draw for them and then they will get knocked out in the play off round.

Yeah but more importantly it made it harder for smaller clubs. Because theres a gaurantee of playing a big club before you have any chance of getting into the group stages.

It's not like they added an extra round.
It's fairer all round. Guaranteed places for actual champions. If anything the chances of a winnable tie for unseeded champions is increased, as the non-champions from the 'big' leagues are arguably better than some of the higher ranked champions.
And surely a guaranteed tie against a big club, as you put, is a good thing - big club = big payday?

i did a bit of studying and the basic knowledge we need to know is :
this year we lose our best co-efficient points total ever, from 06/07, when we got 2.833 (largely due to derry knocking out gothenburg and gretna and getting a draw with psg in the uefa cup, and cork city knocking out apollon limassol in the champions league)
to stay in our current position in 29th we probably need to get around the same again this year.
to put it in perspective last year we got 1.375
however this year it's unlikely dundalk will do a sligo (go out to a much poorer side) and bohs should progress in the champions league, unlike last year.
the most likely outcome of this season will be:
dundalk beat grevenmacher in both games and getting a draw with levski sofia after losing the first leg - that's 0.875 for the co-efficient i think
bohs beat tns home and away before getting a draw in next round and losing the other leg. going into the europa league and getting a draw as well but probably losing the other leg. then bohs would contribute near to 1.000
presuming rovers and fingal get a draw each and that's 0.333 towards the co-efficient
so this year's co-efficient should add up to 2.208 which would be our third best total in history however a bit short of 2.833. looking at the co-efficients table it looks like we at worst go down two and at best go up one but it's most likely we stay in 29th.
btw i didn't study your predictions but i would estimate they would get us around 4.000 which would almost certainly put us up the table.

Why have you got Dundalk down to play Sofia when you dont know if they will win their first round match yet? And why do you say " After they beat TNS " for the bohs match.? You seem to know who is going to win in all the games .
Just a question, with the draw for the third qualifying round made the day after the first leg does it mean that Fingal would be seeded IF they got past Maritimo ? Or Maritimo wouldnt have been seeded in the next round anyway ? It would mean we couldnt look forward to a possible meeting with the likes of Liverpool or Juventus if the winners of our match was seeded.
What would it do to the co efficient thingy if Fingal go past Maritimo?
