yeah i think standard has dropped in all divisions alright. not taking the reffs side or anything but i have noticed a lot of the new reffs have'nt a lot of experience, i did the course with a lot of them about 18 months ago (i just stayed associate reff) this could explain some of the decisions in games recently ie: reffs inexperienced at junior level making decisions on situations they do'nt come across at youth level, where they should be allowed more time in before the progress to junior level anyway.
its a tough job that no one seems to want to do, i agree that maybe new ref should be given more time at youth level but i think the fact it that there is not a huge amount of refs out there so they hav to be used at senior level maybe before there time. Why are people saying the standard has dropped in all leagues? is this a phase the mayo league is goin through or are the young players that are comin through not as bothered about it, play a game when is suits and if they have anything else on the football comes last...

I think you have summed it up about right there. Just look at the make up of some of the teams in the super league, players well past their sell by dates are the most influential players on the pitch week in week out.

This has been bugging me but nobody brought it up and because I can't play football this year it hasn't really bothered me, but.... Why aren't people making a big deal of relegation this year. Granted, 4 teams get relegated from the "Super" this year, which is fine, everyone loves the "Super" League. God this is difficult to explain, if only i had a diagraM....
http://i39.tinypic.com/w8volz.jpg
Premier:
Anyway so they want 8 team leagues. so in the Premier, they have 10 teams, but 2 get promoted making 8, but 4 get relegated from the Super making 12, and two get promoted from the the 1st division making 14..... Which means if you want an 8 team division then 6 teams get relegated..... out of 10. Tough
Division 1:
Anyway so they want 8 team leagues. so in Division 1 they have 10 teams, but 2 get promoted making 8, but 6 get relegated from the Premier making 14, and two get promoted from the the 2nd division making 16..... Which means if you want an 8 team division then 8 teams get relegated..... out of 10. Rough(You either win it, get promoted, or relegated)
Division 2:
Anyway so they want 8 team leagues. so in Division 2 they have 10 teams, but 2 get promoted making 8, but 8 get relegated from the Premier making 16, and two get promoted from the the 3rd division making 18..... Which means if you want an 8 team division then 10 teams get relegated..... out of 10. Thats impossible! That means the winners and runners up of the league both get promoted and relegated! That doesn't make a lick of sense, I don't want to even think about it! Thats barbaric, so if, Charlestown, win the league they'll have a shiny trophy to bring home, a night out, maybe some cheap pussy based on it etc, but next season they'll be in Division 3 or Division 1 who knows. Nice.
Division 3: Well your'll all fcked. Division 4 no matter what......

Now thats the season is about to begin, does anyone know how many teams are goin to be relegated/promoted from each division. I know four are being relegated from SuperLeague and two promoted from Premier Division but after that its not very clear. If they want to reduce each Division to 8 teams next season then six teams will have to be relegated from Premier and eight from first Division. Is this the way its goin to be or was anything decided upon yet?
Joe, this is just the point I made before the season started but it has not been made clear by the League exactly what they are goin to do. Can't believe more clubs don't seem bothered about it as the lower division clubs really are not playing for anything this season.

No obsession on my part rava but I am fed up looking at the negative comments on an ongoing basis about referees, Mayo league. If people are unhappy with the crowd running football in Mayo then they should do something about it or otherwise .... ..
I am more interested in positive matters and discussing football matters, to which I am returning now.
Well done Ballina youths and hard luck to Charlestown in their attempts to bring back a trophy to Mayo.

None of us like concentrating on the negative, but some of us are getting very worried about the game at senior level which is basically in freefall, with low numbers week in week out, refs with not enough experience making game changing errors in important games and more senior figures within the game growing disillusioned with it all. Now if you want to pick the positives out of that be my guest. Now we have another issue that Joe has raised lurking over the clubs, I can only imagine how many people will call it a day if they relegate 6 teams from some of the divisions.

Ok lets do a straw poll to see who agrees/disagrees with the restructuring of the leagues.
Yes- it would improve quality of play.
No- if its not broke dont try to fix it.
I as you might quess will go for no.

I checked the Mayo league website and they dont say anything about the relegation and promotion in each division, they leave the competation rules blank. I used to get the fixture booklets every season and it used outline in them the ups and downs in each division. I dont know is there a booklet for this season, i have heard about the 8 team divisions but i dont know if these proposels are facts or just proposels. I think it is about time the Mayo league came out and set the clubs straight on this matter. As for these proposels i cant see the point so i say No. and I believe most clubs will say the same.

I agree with some of your comments about the Mayo league putting on their website the proposals for the divisions for next year. I know that the people that attend the meetings from the clubs are told about these things, but they do not pass on the information to the rest of thepeople in the clubs. If they put it on the website, we would all know. I dont think that there will be a booklet now that all other items are on the website. As regards the straw poll, I would need to know the details before I would make a decision one way or the other.
The rules should also be on the website.

At the moment clubs have not been informed of how the Divisions will be formed next year just that all Divisions will be reduced to 8 teams for the start of next season. In a letter sent to all clubs at the beginning of April they stated that:
"The L.M.C. wishes to advise all Clubs that the formation of the League Divisions for the 2011 season will be determined by the 2010 end of season League placings."
Overall I would be in favour of reducing all Divisions to 8 teams but do not agree with the way it looks like they are going to achieve this.

Why do you agree with the 8 teams
I think it will make the divisions more competitive and there should not be many end of season games that teams are playing for nothing. Also it will make it easier to ensure there are no midweek games even for cup competitions as there will be 4 extra weekends available and hopefully we will not have a situtation like this year where even in the Superleague the second last game is on the 22nd of August and then teams have to wait till the 26th of September for their Final league game. I feel they should have maybe just reduced one or two divsions to eight teams this year and do the same again next year.

I have to agree with most of your thinking on this matter. In recent seasons we had some clubs being accused of "throwing a game" near the end of the season. At least with 8 teams, we can be fairly assured of a competitive league and no crazy results near the end of the season. It will probably need a bit of time to settle and need a fair trial period. I feel that there may be problems initially, but when it settles it could be a good thing for the Super league. Needless to say I am sure that people involved in some of the "lesser" clubs will have a great fear of not retaining their status and will not want it, and that is also understandable.

You will still have a couple of teams that may have nothing to play for come the end . The quantity does not matter. Even if you have 8 teams and two are brutal bad all season you are left with the same situation. The teams in the bottom half of the league at present are not a par on the front runners, however if you get rid of these you are banking on the 2 from the premier to be even more competitive and give us a better quaility league? What if they are not. And frankly (and I include the 3 leading sides in this) the Quaility of the super all round this season is cocck! Players leaving and getting teed off ect along with Celtics entry into the A league has left a rather boring league where 2 teams continue to dominate and will do regardless of how many teams is in the league.

reducing leagues to 8 teams will not stop teams from doing favours at end of season by those not doing well, also it means a shorter league because of less games does this mean tha ML will reduce the affiliation fee next year ??? as it is already too expensive if you work it out on pro game basis!!!!
Has any secretary got confirmation of how the relegation is going to work, I am sure there was a few inquiries last week to the league.

The 6 teams with no league to go to will be whisked away:jump: by the mothership hidden in milebush and probing experiments will take place on these teams to determine if they are suitable to continue on planet earth. Some very interesting draws where teams are playing teams in the division where they will be trying to be promoted to next season especialy as the chairman reiterated last night that they are still going ahead with the 8 team divisions next season. Its up to the clubs to bring the dispresences to the next delegates meeting wher in the First division u win or get promoted or u are relegated and in the 2 division no matter what u do u are relegated.

anyone any views on radio/newspaper coverage of mayo junior soccer so far this season. in my opinion it has been greatly improved and kept relatively up to date. a far cry from many a past season and more refreshingly is the fact that there is a fairly equal spread across all the county newspapers.

Things has improved greatly especialy with the Western but more is needed. We had a case last August where our U16 girls played a All Ireland semi final in Killala and Mid West Radio and all the local papers was informed about the match but no paper or the radio sent any reporter to the game even though there was not that many matches on that day. Also it will be interesting when some of the Cup finals are on will Mid West cary any comentary on them. I know its 11 years ago where we had a situation where they had first half comentary on the Mayo FA cup final between Killala and Ballyheane and for the secound half they took live comentary of a Leinster hurling match which had nothing to do with Mayo.

It is a great improvement all round this season. The Connaught is covering a lot of games in several divisions and I saw a fair amount of coverage in the Western also. MWR have also improved but I cannot see them doing a live commentary on cup finals in Milebush. Willie the Shoe was great for that. I hope they all keep it up during the summer months. By the way, what has happened with the coverage on the matches on the Mayo website in recent weeks.

Yeah there definitley has been a marked improvement in the number of reports now featured in the papers. There has been very little coverage in the website in the last month but that is the nature of football websites either a feast or a famine.
