I heard they met last nite? Anyone have any details ... I wonder if they will be revived for the 2010 season? If so where does that leave Fahy for a ground?
Would be great to see them back but where are they going to get players from and more importantly who is going to manage them.

Hey lads, last year I organised a 5 a side football competition in aid of a charity which went to Haiti to build houses for families in disadvantaged areas. It was just a local effort in Westport but we raised over 1,200 euros. After the events of late in Haiti I'm hoping to do the same thing sometime in the next few months, but on a bigger scale and hopefully with a lot more teams involved, in an effort to raise a considerable sum for aid to help the cause.
I will get in touch with the Mayo teams individually when I am further into organising it, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to help me along? I was thinking along the lines of two separate cups, one for Mayo League teams or any junior league sides from around, and another for unsigned players. A entrance fee per team (100 euros?), a cash prize for the winners (500?) to be played in an astroturf (westport? Ballyheane? Milebush?) over a weekend. There's already an existing trophy, sponsored by Geratys pub Westport.
Any sign of interest would be appreciated, or an offer to sponsor/referee/contribute a playing area for free. If someone here has done something similiar in the past I would really appreciate their advice too. Also, if you have an idea to improve the structure or when might be the best time to run it (pre-season, when everyone is back training?) I would be delighted to listen to suggestions.
Cheers.

Mayo 3 Galway 4. Only caught the second half. Seemed even enough, good goal to win it for Galway. What was the linesman at? He seemed to call for offside (it wasn't) only for Mc Grath to overrule him. Might be wrong though. From what I saw Galway were unfairly treated by the linesmen as it was, so fair play to the ref. What's the story now? Are Mayo out or still in it??

Well done Fahy. Sorry to be negative but if not ran under the league banner (refs etc.) beware of organising footie matchs without having insurance cover. I ran one many years ago and a guy got hurt. I was sweating for a while but he eventually withdrew his action. I find that the bigger you go on these things the more successful they are. I will help all I can from my desk. Consider foot, facebook, Goal, etc as ways of spreading the word. Consider commercial sponsorship to give you a head start with a tie in with MWR. Consider a celebrity if you can get one free! Give sponsors plenty of photo ops and make sure you have good - no great! - signage.
I think the teams of the year are out, has anybody got them.

I don`t think that is a fair reflection on the leagues other teams such as manulla who won the chadwicks cup and a few other decent players spread around the division.

Brendan O'Carroll, Brendan Grace, Katherine Lynch, and Patrick Kielty, I'd say.

To be fair, if that gang of useless comedians picked the team it would surely be less funny than this team is...
I know the tendency is to give the league winners the lion's share but this team is hard to justify. I'll come right out and say that Fahy Rovers having two players on it while Erris have one and Manulla none seems very disproportionate. Gary Goggins is an excellent player who had a great season but missed the last five league matches, while Joe Keane had some fabulous performances but also some where he'd say himself he was not at his best. I wonder if the team might be picked on the basis of a few matches and in some cases reputation?
Anyone who broke into the Oscar Traynor team this year must be wondering how they aren't in the team of the season (Coleman) and I think there may be a couple who got in on previous year's displays rather than this season. Of the Ballina boys, I think Tom O Connor deserves his, as does Peyton and Duffy. Havn't seen enough of the other guys really.
Who do people think are the major omissions? And can anyone tell me who picks these teams??? I know the press were invited to offer their opinions last year but not this time round.

S'NF- D.Flatley,S.Walsh,M.Costello,J.Jordan.D,D.Smith,S. Hughes,G.Gaughan,
A,Atkision,S.Bourke,C.Downing,P.Fitzpatrick
Ballyheane- S.Fahy,J.Nolan,D.Sherdian,M.Roache,K.Omalley,G.Bou rke,T.Cogghil.M.Conroy,
S.Quinn,C.Maughan,L.Maloyne
Very competive match in which it was a battle of midfield, ashley athision holding midfield, gerry gaughan and shane bourke playing in front of him, with conroy and cogghil in the middel for the heane.
Was no clear cut chances for either team in first half, but shane hughes crossed the ball from the right hand side, which shane bourke drilled home from 10 yards just before the break.Ballyheane came out in second half and dominated the game for 25 mins, putting pressure from free kicks and corners but with no real danger to the snf keeper, 2 late goals from paul fitzpatrick who finished a move just inside the box beatin fahy at his near post, and shane bourke got his second few mins after which was goal of game.
Away to Shangan Athletic next round who are in AUL, Sundayn 31st 2pm-Dublin.

The o boyles will be hard replace, wally is a good signing i think stevie gavins best days are behind him ''with respect' its a bit of a step up from playing from standard of superleague last year.. i think the super league will be a lot stronger this season as 4 teams will be getting relagated.
Would ya say celtic will find it hard to attract good players from outside castlebar this year? its not like players are getting paid to travel long distances to go training twice a week, and to go travelling to cork or dublin or whereven away games are been played, james jennings gone back to manulla surely those factors must have come into his head when he went back to manulla! will this be a knock on effect??

Can't confirm this but don't think there the only teams in trouble. Would boro pay travelling expenses? Great set up there, everything ran really well. People at ground level, likes of Clarke, really work hard to improve the club. Heard Charlestown Jnrs now gone, but Murphy won't confirm it. Typical charlestown!!
Dont know about Ballyheanes B team. There is all kinds of rumours floating around about how many players will be left for their A team.

Does A team manager get paid? Surely not, why would one be acceptable and not the other. I think that comment you talk about has ruined Charlestown; or sorry, the lack their of!! Who the hell are you and what do you know about the running of this club or commitment of the people involved. Disgraceful comment about a club that you better have really good information to back up such a pathetic comment. I know that every commitee and team member within the ML league do their upmost for their club and im 100% sure that Charlestown are no different. It's no wonder people refuse to get involved beyond playing when we get idiotioc quotations like this on a public forum. These people give up their time voluntary to provide a service to youths and juniors so how Dare you make such a comment. Is this the same for Ballyheane B, Castlebar town, ballina town b that there is not enough commitment???? I dont know the in's or outs of Charlestown but I would be surprised if they withdraw however stranger things have happened.

Well it kinda is a commitment issue when nobody wants to manage any teams! Youth set up has now gone as not enough people on the ground or intrest from surrounding area. If its players thats the problem seems very strange for such a large collection area! If you don't no about Charlestown then how can you have such strong point of view on their defence. As with every club things are ran differently. I know because I've been talking to both past and present players. And not only jnr team in trouble but entire club could, as nobody there to carry it on. So get all your facts right before you go attacking anyone.
