View Full Version : Mayo Association Football League
Disappointing to see only two Mayo teams progressing to the next round of the Connaught cup. Indicative of a general slump in Mayo football or merely a bad day at the collective office? Is summer football maybe making this cup tougher for Mayo teams?
Four teams from the superleague are in next round.

ML are right to have summer league, why is every other county staying winter league? Pitches are cr@p, games called off, miserable weather and the league of ireland is played in the summer; are these not enough reasons to have a summer league for every irish county league?[/QUOTE]
Couldnt agree with you more, the winter league is ridiculous, if you look at the fixture lists and results for counties playing winter soccer they never get a proper run at their leagues with games getting called off, add to this (in many cases) the rubbish pitches & facilities enjoyed by other counties (I have to say the Mayo League by and large have better facilities across the board because the league demands the standard - we have dugouts for example) how can football be played properly?
It is down to the people involved in the other counties in Connacht to get the finger out in this regard.
Connacht should lead the way by getting the other counties (Sligo, Leitrim & Galway) to start playing summer soccer, then the connacht Cup could be played during the summer and show the rest of the country it can work.

Good luck to them, I would go to the match but its on at such an awkward time that nobody will travel.
How about the players who are away? Are they all expected to take a day off work to make it down for the game? Bit of a joke if you ask me...
Dont even think the players are bothered if they win or not?!

Unfortunatley I dont think anyone really cares about the Oscar Trynor team. Its just the mentality of people in the game here! Them and us attitude engraved in the football fraternity

It was supposed to be on today but it was called off due to an unplayable pitch. We will have to wait and see if the other couple of games go ahead tomorrow.

Any date for the ML AGM yet? Or any word that the season might kick off earlier to avoid another logjam

In fairness what pitch was going to be playable. Its very unfair on teams to lose home advantage because of this.

I see Fahy have an advert in the paper this week for a Manager. Does this mean they are going to splash the cash? Normally advertising a position means a paid number

No lolly involved I'm afraid. Looking at getting a second underage team up and running this season (U-12's & U-14's) and getting our pitch finalised.
At the risk of sounding like a tosser though, it is a decent opportunity for someone who has an interest in coaching and fitness to get some experience and work with some decent players.
Not sure if you want to risk your superleague status on a novice.

I hear ya, but its pretty difficult find any Manager willing to give up their time for free, let alone an experienced one.
I still reckon its an ideal opportunity for somebody looking to make a name for themselves to get decent experience and exposure. (And bring S.L title to Fahy!) There's a good squad there, with plenty of experience more then willing to work hard for the cause.

So is the existing manager taking a break from the first team or still helping out? ... or how does it exactly work?
Cant see him taking a break from football in fairest?

Still very heavily involved with the club & helping out.

No it is a very good opportunity I agree but its nearly impossible to find a manager who even do it for pay or expensise never mind someone who will do it for free but best of luck because it is a good starting point for a newcomer

Good for the boro to have manager sorted out well before pre-season. Who will mick have along side him? will s.gavin be still involved?

Stevie gone back to Celtic or going back to Celtic unless Mick can persude him not too. not too sure if its the Super league team or Eircom league team but hed be wasted playing for there Super league team. Better off playing in the eircom league team where the quality of football is better and would suit stevie and Celtic.
Absolutely amazed at the MAFL calling off all games for the W/E .......
I wonder why this happened ...
Can anybody shine some light on why this Sun and not last Sun.......
Would it have anything to do with reversal of fixtures... Ah surely not , not even he would try that one or would he ?:)
Utterly confused
Erris especially should ask some very serious questions of the league.

They are all in the same boat. Just unfortunate that Erris got 'The Club of the century' but the same applies to the Heane V S & F and Ballina V Swinford.
The problem here is that no blazer can see this and if it is pointed out to them they think that you are paranoid.
The point is that an explanation should be forthcoming from the Mayo league to explain how the weather situation has altered from Sunday to Sunday.
Needless to say it wont happen and Manulla will play that game at home by hook or by crook.
Shame
There is a precedent for this 'fado fado' when cattle mysteriously made their way onto Kellogues pitch and the game was postponed - against erris I believe.
Shame again

The weather was just as poor last weekend but teams did not retain home advantage. This yet again just seems all wrong but its what we have come to expect.

Iorras contacted mayo league during wek to see would game revert to carnenash on the day if manulla was not playable, precident was set(iorras were playing ballyglasss in december in round three they were told they had to travel to ballyglass on day of match if carnenash was not playable)the forecast for this weekend is not as bad as last week but they decide teams will not lose home advantage this time, something amiss, alot of very upset off people in iorras, ballina and ballyheane just a another example of league management committee making there own rules without any input from clubs

My God - I thought that we got rid of all that bigotry on this thread, and people were discussing football matters here. Go on to the threads that discuss and relate to these matters - FAI Junior Cup and Connacht Cup. Maybe you should contact the people that approve all those decisions for those competitions, or better still do something about it in a positive sense.
On a more positive football note, I think that Iorras will want to repeat their great run of last year in the Cup, and will beat Manulla if they have a full squad of players to select from.
Is there any teams doing any training out there in this harsh weather?

I think tou miss the point(s) here.
Bigotry is another word for intolerance and how these decisions can be tolerated this long is beyond me, so yes in the truest sense of the word I am a bigot.
Other Threads ???? This is the Mayo General topics thread . The MAFL - well some of them anyway - have taken this decision not the FAI/CFA so I would presume that this is covered under this brief.
Contact: If you read my post you would see that I have done same and was taken aback by their naivety/ignorance - dont know which.:(

I do not want to get involded in a heavy debate with Mossy or Rava on whether games should be called off on an individual basis or as has been done recently with a blanket call off. If people have a problem with these matters then they should be addressed in the proper forum at a league meeting. We all know who Mossy is, and he has every right to point out the different situation that has applied in recent times, but maybe there is a valid reason or an instruction from a higher authority. I agree with Fair play that we are far better off discussing football matters. I think that Iorras can beat Manulla provided the desire is there to do so from the players. I feel that Iorras have not been firing on all cylinders over the past while but I may be wrong. Anyway, can we all move on.
Bestie,
Whether Erris beat Manulla or not is not the point. The point surely is that a 'cute - whore' stunt has been pulled here again and it is blatantly unfair.
As regards the point being discussed at meetings I would have to laud your faith in the democratic process. :p
As regards my identity being well known - well so be it. Hope I can still point out abuses when they occur. After all Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is still under house arrest and therefore cannot keep up to date with the Machinations of the MAFL
