Hi everyone. Can anyone help me with this query. What is the ruling when a goalkeeper deliberately handles the ball outside his area, the 18yard line?

You should post this in the Advice on the laws of the game thread as there are a few refs are pretty good at answering these type of posts. But it would need more detail as Carrick hoops reply outlines, eg. did keeper catch ball and stumble outside area or dive at feet of attacked outside area? both handball but both very different circumstances...

Deliberate Handball will be a yellow card offence, if you Dogsoh - Denied obvious goal scoring oppourtunity by handball then its a red card. So depending on circumstances will determine what type of offence has taken place. hope that helps

OK... if it's not deliberate handball there is no offence, so the referee must deem it to be deliberate handball to award a freekick....also not every handball is worthy of a yellow card, surrounding circumstances must be taken into effect i.e. was the handball deliberately done to prevent the opponent gaining an advantage, if so then you would yellow card.....So If the goalkeeper is deemed to have deliberately handled the ball and denied his opponent gaining an advantage - Yellow Card.....if he has denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity - Red Card...... If it wasn't deliberate - no offence!!!
Hope this helps!

[QUOTE=blinkx;1314412]Decent draw for the limerick teams. Could be an interesting year for them. Pike and Fairview should ease through even with the away games, and with Regional having home advantage it should see them advance.

ya i think your right blinkx id imagine pike will win comfortable enough. they allready beat the nenagh crowd handy last year and pike are alot stronger this year.

I am pretty sure I know them it's the refs who complicate it with there varied interpretations, I bet you if you stuck a group of twenty plus refs in a room and discussed what's a foul, offside ,red card yellow card. You would be there for hours cause you would never agree on anything. Why do you think we get confused but thanks for advice anyway.

Thats a valid point, opinions vary always, hence why the Fai are running grassroot development modules for referees. These started last season and will continue for the future.

Would you also accept Biggie, that if you put all the club coaches/managers in your respective area in the same room, and watched the same footage, they also would "never agree" as you put it..........so education on the Laws shouldn't only be for referees...............

Could end up with 5 Limerick teams in the last 16 this year, would be some achievement.

Probably would , but this is my point Reffie, would it not be easier for referees and players/managers/supporters/ wifes etc to have the Laws set out as distinct Laws rather than when i read them its more like Guidelines and are open to interpretation of individual official to implement them.

08/02/2010, 7:26 PM
By UCFL standards at least top three in the Premier division. It's hard to gauge that though, another UCFL top team Trinity beat Bangor's Saturday team in the Leinster Junior last week. They'd have a lot of players who came through the ranks with Cherry Orchard so they'll know their way around a football pitch. Biggest weakness of most teams from the UCFL is fitness, teams in the UCFL in general don't seem to be as fit as others, the league in general has a more kick about with your mates feel to it than the top reaches of LSL or AUL.

Well bluey. Booters are a very good side so ye'll have it tough. They main men for ye to watch out for are young pair Ben Ryan and Craig Wall. Ben will start up top but wander everywhere much like a Robbie Keane in his pomp! Craig is an out and out winger with blistering pace who'll want to run at you all day. In goal, Graham Doyle would be in the top 3 junior keepers in the country.

On the positive side for you, they have a very ageing defence and therefore are extremely suspect to pace. The backline will defend deep to stop the ball over the top so you might be able to take advantage of the space left in front of them.

Heard yer a decent outfit so should be a good game.

well even though Fairview are away you'd have to fancy them so possibly could be a shock if they lost, they are one of the favourites afterall
