and from what ive seen this season the table does not lie. Dundalk and Shels definately the best two teams. Think Limerick are going to have a big say in the winner of this league having to play both Dundalk and Shels still. Could come down to Shels vs Limerick on the last day of the season.

Both Dundalk and Shels still to play away to Waterford - in saying that I think our run in is def the more favourable and will make us favourites - Shels also away to improving Longford and home to Fingal. After Waterdofrd we have two homes (athlone and Limk`k) in a row and finish up away to Kildare.

Speaking of improvements- full credit to Limerick, a real positive story in a very bad year or the league - I would go as far as saying maybe the most improved side of all 22 this year ?

Probably the most consistant anyway, following a poor spell that every club gets

from what i've heard, limerick were excellent, we were terrible. at least the manager blamed the players and nothing else.

Apparently, due to Athlone fielding an illegal player in the game against Waterford, we get a 3-0 win and gain 2 points..

It's gonna be confirmed by the FAI very soon!

Blues are back in the title race!!!!!

Its only been refered to the independent commission

A disgrace if Waterford gain an extra 2 points, the standard and all previous results was a deduction of 3 points from the offending team

Anyway, this will hardly matter if we beat Waterford on friday night

Ps Blue Army - your excitement at a possible technicality assisting your shocking form is bordering on a shameful attitude

trust me, if your team was playing as bad as we are now, you'd be delighted with every point you could get, however technical they were. in saying that, it wont make a bit of difference if we lose on Friday.

Is it fair to say the first div is now down to a two horse race ? or have waterford fans still realistic hopes ? bad time to lose to 3-in-row although, you do have shels at home still.

I'd say we are looking very well placed with 2 home games in a row then to finish up away to Kildare, but Shels will go back on joint top with any sort of win on Monday, and Limerick wont be easy for us on Thurs, so still plenty of twists and tunrs ahead

Shels run in is def the hardest though.

There might be a few deluded souls but not many I'd say. :D
5 points is a massive gap to close in three games. For all that we're convinced we were done out of the game last night (and pretty conclusively won the 'who does that ref hate most' competition), the bottom line is our goalscoring has dried up at the worst possible time.
Was just saying it to a friend there earlier, a few weeks back we were top scorers in both divisions. Now we've gone four games only scoring twice. That's not going to get you anything in the run-in to a championship, nor should it.

Shels run in is def the hardest though.

Longford A
Fingal H
Wat`d A
Lim'k H

Dundalk's

Lim'k H
Athlone H
Kildare A

Longford, Fingal, Waterford and Limerick have nothing left to play for, however Athlone may need points from the game and even if Kildare don't need points from the game to avoid the drop they'll want to go out in some style also Dundalk have only beaten Kildare once at home in the last three games the other results being 0-0 and a 3-1 victory

So even though on paper it is an easier run in I don't think it will pan out that way

Well for our part we have our players under orders to roll over against Dundalk and go hell for leather against Shels.

But the players have a major axe to grind with Gill.

So we'll find out next Thursday how much they respect the fans. :)

I dont agree with that at all, Fingal and Waterford will still want to demonstrate they have a lot to offer and wont be offering any favours to shels, in fact why would they ? (or any team for that matter in any position)

What would happen if Dundalk and Shelbourne would end up on the same points and goal difference?

Would it come down to head to head meetings or a play off?

We would take the title on goals scored.

Shelbourne 32 18 8 6 51 23 62

Whatever about being level on points and goal difference, I can't see a situation arising where we are also level on goals scored..

Me thinks that evaluation of the run in is a little optimistic.
If sporting win the game against athlone. You can bet it wont be hard to motivate the team against our Dublin rivals. Its an outside and very slim chance of the league but you play till its mathematically impossible to win it.

Also, even if they don't believe they can win the title, I'm sure Waterford will want to try and beat Shelbourne in order to leapfrog them into 2nd place..

Good win for shels tonight, under pressure with us going 3 clear on friday night, the huge match for shels is away to waterford on fri week, if we win our next two, both at home, the pressure will be massive going down there, Waterford were unbeaten at home up until last friday.

Its prob going to the last day now, Kildare v Dundalk + Shels v Lim`k, but I think we will be a few points clear going into that game.

Its going to be a great finish to the lge

Odd situation because if we play as well as we can we will beat you both.

Can't see it happening though.

Expect an experimental Limerick side Thursday.

One thing I will say though, if we do manage to shock ye, you can thank Jon Gills big mouth. :ball:

Also, am I right in thinking the First Division is finishing the day after the Premier??

If so, could we expect much of a turnout of Bohs and Pats in Tolka if Shels are playing for promotion??

We all should remember Dundalk's last league title(proper) was won from third spot on the last day as the team on top* dropped points to a relegated Athlone, Shels in 2nd lost..etc so its not over til its over! Fingal need little motivating, and Waterford should be hanging in there too. Squeaky bums all round lads if i may borrow words from Mr Alex Ferguson. Aside from the cold i dunno if i can bear the tension that will be in Oriel tomorrow evening:o

They've nothing left to play for this year and maybe they want to try out a few things before next season to see who to keep on or release at the end of the season? Not that strange really..

So the manager is going to decide the make up of next year's team based on one match, what a mastermind! In my opinion, it's a bit of a joke if they don't play their full side given the stakes that are involved. At the end of the day, if I was a Limerick supporter travelling to Dundalk for the game, I wouldn't be happy if we played an "experimental" side. The reality is that the vast majority of the teams in this league have had nothing to play for the whole season, it didn't stop most of the managers doing their utmost to win every game.

Who knows he could dislike Shels that much and put on an unregistered player so we get a 3-0 no matter what.

In all fairness your taking rubbish. You should worry about Shels getting 9pts from their next 3 games and not what we are going to do or try to blame our opposition teams.
We all know Limerick turn up for the big boys and play to their best and Limerick kind of have us sussed. 3pts tonight will go along way to securing promotion. This is our last real tough game

I can't see Mike Kerley playing a weakened side to be honest. Maybe try a few of the young lads but there was an A game on Monday and a U-20s game yesterday so it should be a near to full strength starting line-up.

Anything other than the above would be disrespecful to both Dundalk and Shelbourne. We play better against the stronger sides anyways.:D
