Premier league football beckons for Shane. The question is where.

Maybe with Reading, they are currently the form team in the play-off positions.

I think this is would be the best option for the lad. Another year with Reading, preferably in the premiership would be perfect. This is really his first breakthrough season, you would like him to continue in the same manner next year and most likely to do that where he currently is imo.

3-0 up now Harte and Hunt with the others.

Give Harte another go in a friendly. He's younger than Killer, plenty of experience and can hit a mean free kick!

Looking at Sunderland. They're going to need a new striker in the summer, aren't they? Two if they can't sign Welbeck.

Hard to better an appearance at the upcoming euro u21 finals.

That lad McCarthy (mentioned earlier) was left floundering like a beached fish a couple of times, we are not missing much there.
He was subbed and his replacement looked the real deal.
Probably means McCarthy has secured his England place in goals and future prospects with Arsenal.

He just got an assist to put Reading 1-0 up consolidating their play off hopes.
Well be their 5th straight win if they win this one v Preston who incidentally
are relegation fodder (Treacy plays for Preston).
Will we see Long get a goal too? Can't find a web stream.

Readings, erm, English U21 goalie just scored an og - useless! who'd want him to declare!

(sounds like it came off the post, hit McCarthy and back in to the net.

Another win for Reading. A point off Leeds just above them, three above Forest who are in seventh and seven off Norwich in second. Automatic promotion might be a step too far but would be in with a chance in the playoffs.

Norwich dropped 3 point today, meaning Reading are only 4 points behind them for an automatic
promotion spot, when the gap was 7 points it looked to big to close, I think they might have a chance now.
They also have the best goal difference.

Alex Pearce (mentioned as a possible switcher of allegiance by Long in that article) seems to be very highly rated by Reading fans. Would probably make the Scots even more annoyed at us but he might be worth bringing on the US trip. Anything that pushes McShane further down the pecking order and all that...

Shane Long finds the back of the net with a goal from inside the area to the bottom right corner of the goal. Scunthorpe 0-1 Reading.

Win for Reading and even better for them Norwich only drew. Cardiff now in second, just three points ahead of Reading in fifth. With Leeds in sixth losing and now five points off Reading, they should be get a playoff spot at least.

When we talk of the legends who wore the green
They'll say Cascarino and Quinner and Keane
But there's one other striker that's worthy of song
The Gortnahoe legend tipp rary's shane long

Wrap him up in the green shirt of Ireland
There's no better player to be seen
See all his team mates his boys in green mates
Shane Long gives it all when he's wearin the green

He played for Tipperrary in gold and in blue
And took pride in his parish of Gortnahoe
With hurley in hand he could never do wrong
The premier county means a lot to Shane Long

Wrap him up in the green shirt of Ireland
There's no better player to be seen
See all his team mates his boys in green mates
Shane Long gives it all when he's wearin the green

When your back's to the wall and you need an oul goal
There's a lad who gives heart a lad who gives soul
His never gives up and his spirit is strong
Three cheers for old Ireland three cheers for Shane Long

Wrap him up in the green shirt of Ireland
There's no better player to be seen

I mean he is a football player. Hardly a revolutionary or a martyr. I often wonder what people actually expect these songs to be like.

13 points there for Reading. Norwich have a tough run-in. Forest who are going for the play-offs themselves, followed by a derby game against an Ipswich team unbeaten in a month and battered in the first fixture. The problem is Cardiff. They have a nice set of games and they look good to go unbeaten, if not win them all. I can't see Swansea doing enough to go up. Still though they're in with a real shout either way, and I can't imagine any team will want to face them in the play-offs.

Reports that Everton are interested in signing him in the summer. This would be a brilliant move for him. His style of play and Moyes' management would benefit both parties.

Moyes is linked with a lot of Irish players (Long, Hunt, Doyle, Keane, Walters, Adam Hammill and er Kyle Naughton) but it never quite seems to happen. I'd say it's more to do with the fact that he never has any money to spend. That's not to say that they won't sign him, I just find it interesting that Everton are linked to Irish players so often but never actually purchase any of them. Incidentally, looking back at Everton's transfers (http://www.evertonfc.com/match/transfers.html), it looks like he has only spent £1 million in the 2.5 years since they bought Hetinga for £6 million.

If I could handpick a club for him it would be Everton. But like Serb says, how many of these rumours ever actually come to fruition. It'd be great if this one did right enough though.

Either or both of Rodwell and Fellaini are likely to move on in the summer so Everton will have a bit of money this summer. I reckon Long would suit Evertons style of play.
