Am sure I heard on Sky Sports news last night that Hunt set up the winning goal.

Assist on the goal came from Noel Hunt

Yeah he did but it actually ended up a 2-2 draw (goals in 92nd and 97th minute). Anyway Noely has his own thread so apologies for taking off track......

he got the assist alright, but Cardiff went straight down the other end and equalised, finished 2-2:
from Sky Sports match review: http://www.skysports.com/football/match_report/0,19764,11065_3284266,00.html

Manset then grabbed his first Championship goal when Hunt crossed from the right for a tap in but there was still time for an equaliser.

Didn't realise he was out of contract in the summer. Nicely done on his part, He should have his pick of a number of premier league teams come the summer

Just got his 16th of the season, a half volley set up by Noel Hunt who got Reading's first. That's 12 in 15 apparently.

On an incredible run. Out of interest, what was Doylers best tally in the Championship?

EDIT:
Here is Doyles goal to games ratio for Reading
2008–09 42 18 Champ.
2007–08 36 6 PL
2006–07 32 13 PL
2005–06 45 18 Champ

Long on course to beat Doylers best tally for Reading. He has 14 goals from 32 league appearances.

I love Kevin Doyle and I appreciate how much he brings to the table, but the lad only has three goals in the league this season! Step yo game up.

out of how many chances he has got in a poor wolves team? id say his goals to chances ratio is up there with tevez this season

If he played for Arsenal I reckon he'd have scored more than Bendtner and Chamakh combined, in my opinion, and would do more for the team.

He's a good player and a very selfless, hard working team player whose contribution amounts to a lot more than just goals. He'd score more at a better club. Maybe not a 20 a year scorer, but 12+ goals in 38 games would be very realistic at a club like, for example, Sunderland.

I'm not sure Doyle's move to Wolves has helped us. His hold up play hand headed knock ons been outstanding. He can take ball into feet or on chest and bring other players into the game and I have only seen one defender all season (Kompany) get the better of Doyle in one on one exchanges. But the positions he has to take up playing for Wolves are not good for someone who wants to score 10 to 15 goals a season. Definetely Wolves best player but I would prefer to him with a club who create more chances. It makes it that little bit harder to score for us as well.

he hasnt had to i suppose, his work rate looks fairly good anytime ive seen him though. doyles workrate and overall contribution are unreal, just don't think he'll ever be a prolific scorer. he's not usually in good goal scoring positions, mostly due to being out doing the donkey work somewhere else, cant be in 2 positions at once. maybe thats down to playing for a bottom of the league team but id say its just how he plays the game.

Long got another one at the weekend, funny to see Paddy McCarthy trying to choke him too after he had 'won' the penalty. Ambrose and Hunt scored in that game also.

It would be great to see Long move up a level, even better if it were to an established Prem side, so it doesnt end up like Doyle to Wolves. Everton need goals and Moyes does go shopping in the Champoinship sometimes, would be nice if we had another guy at a club like that notching regularly this time next year.

Linked with a move to Liverpool:

http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/liverpool-linked-with-long-2558963.html

Probably not that realistic, but good to see him mentioned as a premiership player. Would he make it there, who knows. Has definitely improved this year.

Doyle has had 33 shots this season, 16 on target and 3 goals. A ratio of 0.09 shots to goals.

Tevez has had 86 shots, 51 on target and 18 goals. A ratio of 0.21 shots to goals.

Based on stats, Tevez is 2.3 times more likely to score from a shot then Kevin Doyle this season.

Chicharito is something insane like 9 goals from 13 shots.

I remember John O'Shea managed 4 goals from 4 shots one season.

What a ball from Harte to Long there. Talk about turning back the clock. And Coleman almost scored at the other end just before. Any ball hit just beyond the far post and Coleman will win it in the air (very like Stapleton in his heyday)

Reading up 1-0. Playing some very nice football with Harte, Hunt and Long all involved in some excellent build up play to the corner before the goal. Reading just missed a simple one on one. should be 2-0

Hes going to get picked for the u21's instead. Playing very well. Takes every corner and most of the free kicks. Still has a lethal left foot.

Another Shane Long goal today - 16th league goal of the season I think.

Ian Harte has scored 2 as well. Reading lead Middlesbrough 4-1. With our current injury list is there any hope for Harte?

Hmmm at this stage, Long could be playing in the Premiership without a transfer. Strikers depend on form more than most positions, Long should be head and shoulders infront of Keane at this point.

Robbie's issue has been about lack of appearances more than a loss of form. Redknapp thought he had better strikers so Robbie started a lot less games for Spurs but if you look at his senior club appearances since the start of 2009/10 he has scored 26 goals in 42 starts. Clearly that includes a shedload for Celtic as well but the only game where I really thought he was "off-form" was Slovakia away when he missed the penalty and didn't look sharp. He's scored 6 goals in 14 international starts in the same period.

Robbie is lacking games and on that basis Long is clearly in consideration but when he's back fit and playing regularly, Robbie is still clearly first-choice alongside Doyler for me.

Probably with a name like that, however he has 3 England U21 caps.

I am one who has questioned Long's ability in the past. However, having watched him this year he is all class- strong, skilful, brave and confident. Finally, another genuine option other than Keane and Doyle emerges. In regards to McCarthy, I think he trained with the England U21s rather than having played for them. I am sure someone will clarify this!

FarBeag

McCarthy played for England 21s in the game against Iceland during the week.
