Solid signings for Dundalk. Burns, Kearns, and Mullins are all solid Premier Players, who are a known quality (Buckley not so sure). Teahan and Warren the young 1st Division Players worth a gamble. Probably still missing pace outwide though.

Wouldn't mind some 'exotic' signings now to fill out the squad.

Feel we will still be relying on youth players, with Spaight and Mulligan probably going to play a decent role when Leonard leaves.
Dundalk have signed very well and I wouldn't be worried about Buckley, he'll fight like hell, break up play and set an example younger boys can look up to. I felt there was one more year in him at Bohs but he probably wants to start and Bohs wanted a regular starter.

Probably shows the lack of available players to the league more than anything.

There has to be better than Maguire out there. I don't think he'll suit either teams style of play. Not strong enough to hold the ball for Bohs and no longer agile or fast enough for Rovers

I'd prefer some full backs tbh.

He’s in contract with Glentoran until summer 2027 and he’s scored 16 goals in 20 games for them so despite his age it’d likely take a decent fee which Dundalk shouldn’t be spending. So with that in mind yes, they’ll probably break the bank (again) to sign him ;)

Some performance. Though admittedly against Crarick Rangers. I doubt he'd be hitting anything like those sorts of numbers if he made it back to the LOI again, so he's probably found his level somewhere between the 2.

Coincidentally, they must have put something in the water in Belfast over Christmas as Linfield also beat Bangor 6-1 whist Harland and Wolff Welders put TWELVE past Armagh today :D

Danny Mullen is a brilliant signing for Dundalk. Without wanting to be disparaging about them and their recent fortunes, I'd have thought he'd land higher.

No I think that's a fair comment, as DFC in a bad spot last 2 years, but seems are things are changing (at last), Kearns also made a good point about the stuff visiting teams don't see, Players Gym, Media, Cinema Room, Indoor Pitches, Changing Rooms, Players Canteen, all in YDC (that spot behind the Shed). New Pitch also.

Mind you, for spectators, home and away, still very very poor.

Back on point, Mullins is a great signing. I might actually up my hopes from 9th to 8th, but will still be tough year to adjust, but we have a chance.

Plenty of rumours that Paddy McClean is going back to Derry

Being reported in The Journal, which makes me think it's more than a rumour.

A lot of chat has been about James coming back, and about Paddy coming back as a precondition. Don't think I'm convinced by any of that, Paddy is a worthwhile siging in his own right, and maybe shouldn't have left. James has othe stuff to do, it seems.

Still, though. Could happen...

Different from a lot of peoples thinking in Dundalk, keeping a core of last years squad I think is better than trying to sign a new PD squad. The last few signings are of course key but when you cant afford to try the Derry model the next best thing is to keep a squad that is in development, young, with a lot of games under the belt. There will be a reasonable mix of experience with youth too. We have stayed (so far) away from half season loans or the scattergun unknown signings that undid us slowly but surely in the 2020s. There is a good spine to the side. We will fear injuries so need luck. But I dont feel like this is mission impossible this season. CK is a good young coach, if he continues his current trajectory then a risk could be losig him so new contract or not we should be working on beyond this season already also. Stating the obvious but how others that struggled last season improve will be a big part of whether we have done enough to stay well out of trouble or whether we jut keep in in our own hands. The cup game imo showed that we werent miles off. A couple more signings minimum and that sense of positivity ups, another good CB to go with Leonard and cover when he leaves. Bit more pace would be nice, Im old fashioned in liking pace on the wings but depend on how we set up too. There's a couple of names mentioned that would be up ther with the last 2 signings and if they happen well then we'll be fine.

Of course we should have Hoban back if it was a possibility but not at any cost and must be played stuff. It wont happen but he fits with managers plans not the manager fitting him in bs.

He was doing ok with Hartlepool earlier in the season until they surprisingly parted ways. It will be interesting to see what contribution he makes to Cork.

Jesus you’s having a bad week of it, I just saw the picture of him kissing the Sligo crest when he had signed there previously. All yous need now is Caulfield to step down and the club to appoint Jeff Kenna :D

He's bound to score against us for Rovers isn't he ? Good player, but too inconsistent. Wasn't desperate to see him leave, but on the other hand, not devastated by it either.

What are rovers fans thoughts on Darragh Nugent? I’ve seen him play against Pats plenty of times but he never really stands out and I couldn’t tell you what his best attributes are. Just seems to be a steady Eddie in a team full of superior players at rovers.

Given Nugent is a midfielder, if that deal goes through I guess it probably means Diallo won’t be signing which would be a shame. On a positive note Mulraney being on one of the biggest wages in the league will free up money to bring in a decent replacement if they can find one from somewhere abroad

Kenny tried everything with him and his form and fitness still completely fell off a cliff last season. He has the talent but there are huge doubt's on his attitude. A parting of ways would be best for both parties.

Looked like he might make something of himself as an energetic, combative midfielder who could occasionally play a bit of ball....but he went backwards last year imop. Mainly used in Europe when we needed legs. Good lad. With regular minutes and a more defined role he might do well for you but he didn't look like he was ever going to be a serious option in our midfield setup. He's not on Diallos level so if it was one or the other I wouldnt be delighted in your shoes.

Possibly better off getting an opinion from Drogs fans where I think he held down his place more regularly a few seasons back.

Excited about Mulraney. He was devastating against us a few times. New environment hopefully what he needs and we've a decent record of taking players who are out of favour or sorts and getting them back on track. We will turn him into a wingback in no time.

I have absolutely zero doubt that Mulraney will mug us off and be a success for Rovers but at this point I'm just happy for him to be gone. By all accounts a good lad and teammate but outside of that 10 game run and some odd moments of quality he's never come close to living up to what he takes up in the budget. I had more patience with him than most but last season it got to the point where he was the personification of what was wrong with us, flattering to deceive and crumbling at the first sign of any resistance.

Can't say I've ever noticed Nugent enough to have an opinion on how good of a signing he'd be. If he offers any kind of energy and mobility to midfield then that alone would be a help for this current squad. To complete the squad we absolutely need a couple of full backs, also probably a winger to replace Mulraney and a midfielder (which I'm guessing is Nugent but I wouldn't mind another). For my own sanity I'd like a CB to partner Redmond but I think we've too many under contract already for that to be a goer.

Nugent was used in Europe to break up the play and pass it to a colleague who had more skill. He was rarely used in the league unless there was a plethora on midfield injuries. His attitude is great by the looks of it and he works extremely hard so the polar opposite of Mulraney by the sounds of it!!😄.
Bradser turned Grant around in less than 6 months so if he lights the right fire under Mulraneys ar$e we could really use his obvious skill, particularly his pace in Europe.

On loan, he'll do great things and get recalled and we'll be left high and dry, like Grehan last year

Better have the 'great things' than not no? For all we know, without Grehan for the first half of the season, Europe qualification might have been a mile off.

Your Grehan comment is exactly what I mean. I've just looked Vaughan on Wiki. Since 2022, 63 appearances and 1 goal.

Grehan was pulled back by Palace because they had a deal in place to sell him to Doncaster Rovers.

I think that’s the point shinkicker is making to be fair, Grehan did great things, was recalled from the Bohs and bothered left without their best defender. Although I do agree with Larry Da Wise in that I’d rather have half a season of a 10 out of 10 loan player than a full season of a 5 out of 10 loan (or permanent) player

Mulraney to Rovers and Nugent to Pats confirmed.

Good moves for both players, remains to be seen if it works out for both clubs but I'm happy. Even if we can't turn Mulraney into a wingback, we need someone who can run with the ball and score goals with Mandriou out for a while. As for Nugent, best of luck to him. Did nothing wrong, just wasn't the right fit for us. Could see if turning into a good ball winner beside Forrester or another technical player.

Vaughan is out of contract next summer. Hull have a number of players in the same situation and all have extension clauses in their contracts - they are sending them out on loan to get first team playing time before deciding whether or not to trigger the contract extension.

The better Vaughan plays the more likely that Hull extend the contract and that he could end up at Bohs for the season.

Some performance. Though admittedly against Crarick Rangers.
Aye Carrick are poor enough and worse, were down to 10 men, I think, as early as the first half.

... whist Harland and Wolff Welders put TWELVE past Armagh today :DApparently off the field arguments have seen Armagh completely implode - the manager and nearly all the first team have left. Meaning they're having to play teenagers etc, at least unless/until they can sign some experience, which seems unlikely.

Anyhow, the reason I visited this thread was to check out Coleraine signing Mark Coyle from Shels:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/cgez19xwl8wo

Any good? Coleraine were recently taken over by some young, local businessman/fan, who's already splashing out VERY big sums of money. Dunno how much he can afford to lose, but if he's banking on European money, they're probably good enough for that this season, though Larne look to have top spot sewn up already, so it's going to be tight.
