The Tim Clancy/Cork break up is a bit strange to me.
I see on socials that the owner is getting a lot of heat for not spending money on the playing side of things.
Having Seani Maguire & Ruari Keating as your preferred striking partnership would have me doubting that no money is being spent and to me it seems that the onus to replace an assitant coach, S&C coach and Physio would fall on the first team amanger rather than the owner? You always hear non football people should stay out of football and I would certainly view these hires as being dependant on the manager as they would work together on a daily basis, so maybe this is where there are budget shortfalls?
At the same time Clancy was commuting from Meath and apparently starting his own business? so did he ever really commit to Cork and was he letting these hires slip?
I also notice that many fans are bemoaning the hire of commercial and events managers for the business side of the club but from the outside looking in this is the type of thing a club like Cork needs?
They have a massive catchment area with large population, they are trying their hand at designing and releasing their own kits (personally I think this is a folly but its good to see clubs trying something) and their crowds, like many in the league, seem tied to the fortunes of the team. If they can improve that so they have a steady home support week in week out that means the playing budget can increase. These types of roles should be looked at as revenue generators and not taking away from the football side of things. Cork themselves have recent experience of ****ing a big budget on a playing squad and failing to make europe so they should understand as well as any club in the league the foolishness of spending all your money chasing fools gold.
It just seems a bizare situation from whatever lens you view it through.

Who are the potential candidates for the Cork job!

Keith Long, RuaidhrĂ Higgins...............!

Rumours that it's going to be Ger Nash, currently an assistant coach at GAIS in Sweden and was Aston Villa U18s manager and Ipswich Town academy/23s manager before that. He was interviewed for the Pats job at least 3 times in the past and the Cork job last time it came up

Interview with Tim Clancy on off the ball below. He started a business with his wife in Trim this year and was travelling between Trim and Cork daily this season. That and the lack of an assistant the last 2 or 3 months (they were knocked back by several of the candidates), plus the lack of other first team staff like a full time analyst meant the work load was too high and burned him out. He mentioned himself and his assistant at the time finishing training in Cork at half 1, driving up to Derry to watch them play Bohs, then driving home the same night and arriving back at half 4 in the morning before taking training at 9am later that morning. Regardless of having a full time assistant and analysis or not, thinking it’d be possible to juggle full time management alongside managing a new business 3 hours away was utterly bonkers thinking

Good to see Miggle D has a career as a presenter for Newstalk when his time as president is up. Hes always been a great supporter of the league so hopefully he can continue to promote the league.

You cant fault effort but you can question committment, not in a deliberate manner, just poorly judged by Clancy. He'd had enough and thats understandable as nobody could manage that sort of schedule without burning out. The club should have been wondering how this could work too imo!

From the interview at least Clancy did say the club had sorted accomodation for him, given him the money to replace his assistant and since he signed a new striker there recently who has hit the ground running and mentioned that a few other signings were in the pipeline I think some of the questions about Corks budget can be put to bed. They have enough to at least be competitive in this league from the sounds of it and given how close the league is with the right appointment that they could find themselves safe and depending on fitness maybe make a run at the cup (I'd wager a few teams are eyeing that strategy up in fairness).

On your question about the commitment I have to agree. I dont think he was fully commited whether he realised it or not. He mentions things like video analyst and opposition analysts and to the best of my knowledge Bohs only filled these roles last season. I'm not sure if its a role every club in the league has at the minute? Do Drogheda, Waterford, Sligo have it? I'd wager the Dublin teams do. So this work would then be done by the manager or assistants at any club that doesnt have it filled or even club volunteers. So the level of effort he mentions seems to be normal albeit hightened as he hadnt replaced his assistant yet. If the budget is there to hire people that make your life easier and you arent doing it I think commitment has to be questioned. Never mind the commute and starting another business. Honestly this interview was a bit of a trainwreck for him IMO and he would have been better off saying nothing.

Pretty bizarre take on it. There's no chance Cork City are making enough money for Usher to be making a profit from them. Tim Clancy said himself a budget was there for an assistant manager but he couldn’t convince any to come down and take it, accommodation sorted, budget for a few more players he was due to bring in this summer too. From the outside looking in, a lot of Cork fans are very quick to forget that they voted to sell the club to Usher as it was becoming a total financial mess as a fan owned club

Fuad Sule apparently on his way to Derry, according to the Belfast Telegraph.
Definitely leaving Glentoran, having played loads there and at Larne, and with a season at Dalymount.
Holding midfielder type of player, and not entirely sure it's the sort of lad we'd need. Did work with Lynch at Larne before, so maybe he sees something in him.

Paddy McClean is on the transfer list at Glens too. Would Sligo fans have him back?

Sule was a serious wee baller at Bohs and always felt he'd return to LOI but a lot of comments from fans up north recently indicate his best days are behind him. What age is he now?

There's a few of those already in the squad. I wonder is the plan to have spares so that midfielders can keep eating suspensions? Gonnae be tricky to get players integrated and up to speed if there's a constant churn in the lineup (for instance, I was hoping for more from Benson and imagined him in a deep lying playmaker role, but wonder if a lack of game time means that he's not quite gelled yet).

Wonder what this means for Diallo. Love him, great player, would love to see him get back to where he was a few years ago.

He actually started out at Pats as a young fella before he went to Bohs. I remember seeing him in one game (I think it was a friendly) and thought he looked decent. Haven’t seen too much of him since he went north, but he seemed to do well at Larne in particular. As a by the way, I always thought he looked a bit, shall we say, odd ?shape wise. Almost like his legs were too short in proportion to his torso. Maybe that’s just me.

Anyway, would he not be competing with Adam O’Reilly for a place in the Derry midfield ? Hardly likely to displace him I would have thought.

Sule got a nine match suspension after a big brawl recently, that I'm almost certain he'll have to serve no matter what club he joins. If Bohs didn't have 30 midfielders already I would have back in a heartbeat.

And was at Rovers before that even - he likes a move! Listened to a good interview with him last year. Also you're dead right about him being quite similar to O'Reilly.

James McManus signed a new deal with Bohs till the end of 2027. He had a rough time with injuries over the last few seasons but he's a very talented player, happy to see the club tie him down to a long deal.

Delighted for him after the injuries. I think he should start more games TBH as he's been really good in our recent run of good form but midfield is the only area where we have plenty of options.

I do read this as Bohs anticipating someone is coming in for him during the summer. If I remember correctly he signed a multi year extension to his 3 year contract in 2023 so I think he had a until the end of the 2026 season left. Good to see the club being proactive though.

Having watched him for plenty, he's solid without being spectacular. Good enough for any squad in the premier, but whether he is first choice would depend on if he was joining a title chasing squad or a mid table squad.

He had a bit of athletcism about him, that's probably what got him so far, very ordinary player.

Its an odd one as he was a back up Sheilds initially and the next O'Donnell. Had the athleticism as mentioned, looked to have the ability, technique, shape to throw off opposition players, engine, spoiler if needed, if he didnt over complicate things could pick a handy pass, recycle pssession, all good yet he wasnt really that good in a good Dundalk side all the above considered. Often wondered if he was just adapting to new roles, asked to be a utility player so never made a position his own and undropable. But his progress just plateaued, didnt or couldnt make a mark when he moved on. That said i'd have him back at Oriel now and building for next season if promoted. He is probably as good as what we can aim for including experience with some milage left in the legs. He was too nice to be a Shields or O'Donnell if he had the attributes, hard to in it.
