Liam Smith leaving Bohs to join St. Johnstone. The defence is a bit threadbare and prone to injuries so I'm surprised we've let him leave. He was probably gone at the end of the season but he was decent squad depth.

Supposedly there was a clause in his contract to let him leave to a Scottish club for free, so it seems they hadn’t a choice in the matter in the end

Athlone Towns new ownership hired Steven Grey as our new CEO. Met with fans this evening detailing plans to mend some bridges with wider community and businesses in the town, which if successful will be long overdue.

Plans to invest more money into the men's team from next season.

Dan mcdonnell reporting Victor oshianvuna transfer agreed and will be announced next week. At least 2m up front rising to 4m with add ons and a 'healthy' sell on clause. Thats some amount of cash for a 16 yesr old who isnt even a regular starter. He isnt physically ddveloped the way Noonan id tbf so he has improvement in him

In recent years, Dundalk have not had much income from transfers to foreign clubs. Just wondering how much credence to give Pete O'Rourke's story (today) that Celtic and Norwich are leading the interest in centre-back Vinnie Leonard.

It was reported locally this week in The Argus newspaper by James Rogers. It was those two clubs and Swansea City also mentioned.

Well known around town he will be signing a pre contract with someone before the window closes

A superb player who at 17 plays like a 30 yr old centre half. A born leader and he can play football too

According to James Rogers, the fee is going to be bigger than the fee we got for Keogh a few weeks ago and it was a club record

Celtic, Norwich or Swansea won't be offering a figure anywhere near what Rovers have agreed for Victor Oshianvuna's transfer I guess!

No id say there's absolutely no chance we get anywhere close to a million to be fair

Word is German and Italian clubs are also interested. I prefer to see lads going further away than the UK
The clubs abroad seem to take care of their players more. In England if a club doesn't fancy you or you fall out of favour they just forget about you

Best talent I have seen come through the club in years and a case of when not if he will move. Would love to see him move to the continent rather than a British club as I think it would massivly aid his progression. Very intelligent player and the calmness on the ball and intelligent passes out of defence are beyond his years.

I used to moan about the real lack of young player development at Dundalk and top players going for nothing and now I want to moan about the loss of talent - no pleasing some people! There is definitely something more exiting about a player signing to the continent. English young player development has changed and improved in recent times from when it was just handier to sign a fairly cheap ready made player from Portugal or South America, mayve FFP has had some actual benefit to the game in that respect. I know if I had the choice betweeen say Burnley and Fiorentina which one I'd pick or pints in Wetherspoons v espresso in the Polish Cafe in Florence....maybe Im projecting in old age!

Defo seems to be a minset to see what the continent has to offer. Look at Liam Kerrigan. Just moved to Serie C team Terana on loan from Serie A team Como. He has become a bit of a journeyman unfortunately, bad injury didnt help. But he has lived in Northern Italy and now central Italy ( and Belgium on loan too). Im sure he could have went to a L1 or L2 team in England but what a great experience he is having.

Kerrigan’s move was a permanent deal, not a loan. I had fully expected him to show up back in the LOI this summer but the lifestyle out there is obviously a big pull factor

Agree with this and same for most, chance of making it at PL level is so slim, you don't progress all clubs have millions to get a replacement in and you are gone. A player won't have a direct choice as it will be who the suitor is, but I always thought a championship club gives better opportunity to Irish lads, or SPL and of course the continent, the latter would be my choice if it came up.

EU rules - and I'm probably wrong. If he moves to a EU country then they can take him immediately but if UK (Celtic or Norwich)then although they can sign him he can't go to them until he turns 18 ?
Loan agreement?
Lad now only going into 6th year for his leaving I believe.

Helluva prospect 👏 pleasure watching him ATM,cool AF 😎

They were after him before, but I think it's an unusual one.
I think he's decent and has bulked out a good bit, but he just doesn't get much game time with us.

From what I see with him in his loan spell at Harps there is definitely the potential for a good striker there. Works hard and geets himself in good positions just need to work on his final product, he needs game time for that whether he'll get that at Reading remains to be seen

I thought it was an odd one too. From what I understand, he's going over to join up with the first team squad too. From sitting on the bench in the LOI to a first team squad in League One is a rather strange series of events.

Having fallen out with Bradley, Jack Byrne gone on loan to Dubai Irish FC in the UAE Third Division which is a league made up of mostly ametuer players. Only on loan there till December and he’s likely only going there for the lifestyle and a favour to Stephen Ward who just joined as a director of football type role but regardless that’s some fall from grace. It’s not even a money thing as he’s getting his rovers wage with Dubai Irish paying a portion of it

Just discovered that although it’s called the UAE Third Division, it’s actually the 4th tier of football over there. Madness! He’s surely good enough to play in the top division over there rather than that muck (or should I say sand ;)) level he’s going to be playing at

It was only a couple of years ago he was going to go to the MLS for €100k odd.
Even for handiness, why not IL until January? He'd walk into any side there.
Unless whatever happened was that bad no other club would want him.

Is he playing in UAE just to keep some fitness and hoping to pick up a contract with a top level side. It may be a 4th tier but if he tears it up he might turn the odd head. Or killing time before a proper move. His abilities have been wasted in general imo, not always his own fault with injuries and that but he played damn all as fully fit, the impression given at least. If he is fit and not getting games then automatically player attitude is questioned as Bradley isnt a manager who signs a real talent to fill the bench.

Must have been a bad one, Bradley is from the outside anyhow a pretty honest fella, I’d say you’d really need to push to get him that ****ed off

I heard an absolutely hilarious story that Byrne wasnt in the match day team for an 11 v 11 training game at Rovers. He proceeded to absolutely boot the the ball off the pitch everytime it came to him , until Bradley eventually snapped after the 6th or 7th one. I will never be told that isn't true, its too funny.
I wouldnt have been to keen on Pats signing him, until i heard that.

Whatever it was its a shame tbh and a shocking waste of a good player, also heard we were paying none of his wages and also we were paying all of his wages ........we all love a good gossip.
