Great again by Mannus, keeps the tie salvageable albeit would take something special.

Mannus one of very few to emerge with any credit. Bradleys biggest game since he took over and he failed. miserably.
The team he picked was dreadful and for all the talk of the team playing a certain way they did nothing.
One good move in the game and Rovers carved them open only for Gannon to close his eyes and hope for the best. How Gaffney stayed on the pitch is a mystery, with Rovers effectively playing with 9 men as Towell is nowhere near match fit.
Just have to make sure we win the league again next year as Rovers will lose all 4 games they play in Europe this season.

I just don’t rate Bradley as a coach, he’s got the best squad in Ireland at his disposal but when it comes to Europe and Rovers need to find another gear his coaching ability is exposed.

Strange take. He has gotten some of his best results in Europe. Hasn't had much luck in terms of opponents but he's knocked out Brann and come very close to getting past Apollon and AIK.

Europe is Europe. The reality is you are coming up against better sides with bigger budgets (unless you have Dundalk's recent luck). You're playing in top gear from the start if you want to have any chance. Rovers just aren't as good this year as they were last year. Still had chances but you can see the pace of some of the Slovan lads. Just better players.

Game came too early for Towell who was a weak link throughout. I can see why Bradley played him as we looked the best we have all season with him and Finn in the middle against Dundalk but he isn't sharp enough to play at this level. Every mistake is punished.

Big Al - what a man.

Looks a big ask for Rovers. It’s a scenario like this that no away goal rule plays to our teams benefit. If Bratislava get one in Tallaght it would normally be tie instantly over.

Absolute dog€hit from Rovers. Outplayed by a team in pre season who are barely mustering an effort.
Bradley needs to get Gaffney, Towell & Gannon off- Get Mandriou, Burke & Joey on.

Its tough at the top!! I would certainly enjoy an Ezekiel involvement in this thread.

Yeah and no nervous concerns playing the giants of Newtown tomorrow!!

Overcoming 2-0 away result is very doable.Rovers get an early goal at home Slovan will he rattled, than the usual 95th minute goal, et and penos.

Straightstory

Almost the classic Irish performance in Europe: sloppy goal early in the second half; push everybody up and then the opposition score with a late penalty after a swift counter attack. ('almost' - because Mannus saved the pen). What were Rovers thinking? No need to send everybody into the opposition penalty area for the last few minutes - it was only approaching half time in the tie. With away goals now not being crucial, there was even less need for this approach.
Slovan no great shakes. Could be interesting if Rovers score first next week.

I think the belief was that we were in the last play of the game and it was well worth getting as many in the box as possible. I was surprised the ref didn't blow it up after they cleared it.

That requires an awful lot of things to go Rovers' way in fairness. I mean, it could happen, but "it's doable" is a level of probability higher than I'd give it. Slovan are a very good side

Really low quality in the posts here. Is this typical for a European thread? Is it just barstoolers who lurk and hope they can take a swing at an Irish team? Not even seeing any good windups which is the least you'd hope for.

Has Slovans' league even started? I thought some bright spots from Rovers but over it was poor. Defence carved open too many times and sloppy balls given away

Still two weeks away from the start of their league.

Same story the last two times we played them (Dundalk in 2019 and UCD in 2015) and they were noticeable sharper in the second leg, even though it was away for them each time.

If we score first its game on.
Its a pity Tallaght wont be packed out as i remember against Brann how the crowd really played a part after going behind but its a wafer thin chance at best

The lowest common denominator comeback. This is old and tiresome, find some new material or give something informative back at least. Anything that's been said that you disagree with you care to expand on?

Wouldn’t dream of buying a stream for another club. I don’t mind paying for tickets to a game of another club as you get a night out. I’d have an interest in tonight’s game but not enough to pay to watch the games.

I'd agree as a Rovers fan. I think Slovan have another gear and we don't at the moment. They defended well which is where I thought we might catch them, given reports of unrest in their camp. They looked organized enough to deal with us though and dangerous on the counter which will suit them down to the ground in the next leg.

It would require a huge amount of luck and a bit of an unlikely implosion from a team who has won back to back doubles. A lot of talk about them being in preseaon but their regular season didn't end until imd-May where they won the cup. Then they started friendlies in June so they aren't exactly lacking match sharpness or fitness in the same sense other league's clubs have when facing Irish teams.

But an early red card and a jammy peno or 3 and we are back in it......

Dundalk with a good move to go 1-0 up.

Dundalk unsurprisingly looking fitter and sharper. At the 30 minute mark I was beginning to think was this going to drag on without a breakthrough. But the possession game and patient approach is much easier to watch now.

Second goal actually went in there too. Can continue to try and keep the ball now and don't concede anything stupid.

Maybe someone could tell the co-commentator that Dundalk are playing Newtown, not Newport County. (He's called them 'Newport' seven times). Kind of basic stuff to actually get the name of one of the teams right.

No surprise to see Dundalk putting the 7th best team in Wales to the sword.

No surprise either to see the Glens struggling at home against TNS so far (though still early days in that tie). I thought they might underestimate the Welsh professionals a bit.

If Bohs play at that level next week on grass, they should convert all that possession into better chances.
Must have been 65/35 possession, 7/8 corners to 2.They conceded maybe 16 free kicks .Ref was very lenient on them

How does that saying go ... the better team lost.

Thought we edged the first half even though they had couple of chances. We were in control in the second half and there was only gonna be one winner before the sending off. Tie still very much alive, especially with McGinty, Mahon and Kenny hopefully available.

I watched that game and Glentoran were by far the better team to be fair only for a very sloppy conceded goal and equally sloppy finishing on their part that tie would be over. They will see off TNS in the 2nd leg handy enough I think.
