Should be an excellent addition to us. A lot of young players in the squad, we need a few lads like Vinny Faherty and Dav. Hopefully a few more additions to come.
great signing for ye. he only spent half a season with us in 08 but I thought he was very good for us imo. when was the last time he played in the loi?

We've signed Rhys McCabe by looks. Was out warming up with the squad before the Cobh friendly earlier.

UCD have signed Richie O'Farrell from St Pat's. Any Saints fans know anything about him?
Look like we've only lost the two players over pre-season - Daire to Cork and Greg to Derry. Pretty encouraging to have kept the vast majority of our 2018 team together tbh.

Wasn't he in the Ireland U17 squad for the Euros? Tall box to box fella if I'm thinking of the right guy.

Vinny Perth completely dismissed the speculation about Forrester last week
"Nonsense"Vinny Perth's reaction to rumours Dundalk are looking to sign Chris Forrester and Andy Boyle. Full story in this week's Argus

Rovers probably have a gap or two to fill in their midfield. Vinny might make a late move if Bradser is complacent!

Dundalk have to be gunning for Forrester surely. Between O'Donnell retiring and (appaarently) missing out on McEneff they presumably have a place or two to fill in midfield and you're not going to get much better than Forrester in this league if his head's right.
Surely the one thing Rovers don't need at this point is a midfielder? Granted there'd be no harm in getting him as he's more talented than what they have, but between Watts/Finn/McEneff/Bolger/Byrne/Finn plus whoever else is in the squad the money it'd take would surely be better spent filling actual holes in the team.
Failing all that we'll happily have him back.

There's more chance of him joining rangers than joining Rovers.
A boez fan, by all accounts. It's their players we take, not their fans.

Short memory PD
Dave Connell, Gino Lawless, Peter Eccles ( believe it or not ), Derek Swan All Bohs fans who went to the dark side
Paddy Mulligan, Terry Palmer and allegedly Keith Ward are the only fans I remember going the other way.
However unlikely, would be happy to take Git Forrester back

Short memory indeed.😀
Think git made it plain he'd never join Rovers. Dundalk his next likely destination.
Bohs fans gave Eccles unmerciful stick whilst he was at Rovers. Winning things.

Dundalk to sign Jordan Flores from Wigan Athletic

(source: @reluctantnicko on Twitter - what he doesn't know about the Football League isn't worth knowing and Wigan is one of the clubs where he seems especially well connected)

We have probably two too many midfielders but knowing Rovers that means he'll be our number one target. Doubt he'd want to play for us though, maybe save us from ourselves. (Not to say he'd be a bad option - at full tilt he's the best midfielder in the league).

I wonder if Pats would have gone to sign McCabe if they knew they could get Forrester as both fill similar roles, hard not to sign Forrester when the chance came up but I wonder if they now have more money spent on their midfield than initially planned

You'd have to feel a bit sorry for bucko with all the cash pats are splashing now,
They are deffo Europe contenders now.
Going to be a competitive league.

Pats look to have strengthened well and with a new manager and most importantly goals (Drennan / Shaw) could well push on.
Git a good signing and they will certainly be impressive going forward.

Dundalk are a step up on anything in the league. They are a well oiled unit.
We should now be wrestling with Rovers for second and third place positions IMO

Two quality signings for Pats especially Forrester and personally for him, it would be good if he can get back to enjoying football.
I think Pats are still lacking in depth of quality and they might be stretched with a few key injuries, but they have assembled a squad that will have real ambitions of European qualification now.

Three year contract for Forrester, that's quite a statement of intent. Speculate to accumulate, that the League of Ireland business model!

I feel a bit sorry for Buckley, moved on before the money returns. The drop off the last few years was down to a tighter budget & relying on younger players more than anything.

A strong squad is being assembled for next year. I think are good at the back with Bermo, Madden, Desmond with either Toner or Webster. The midfielder is full of talent with Forester, McCabe, Clifford , Lennon , Markey , Coleman. Reckon we look strong going forward aswell with Shaw, Drennan, Miele, Clarke, Doona. I reckon we can achieve Europe with that squad and that would be a huge leap forward for the club after recent seasons.

Decent cover now :
Goalkeepers: Brendan Clarke, Barry Murphy, Brian Maher
Defenders: Kevin Toner, Lee Desmond, Simon Madden, Ian Bermingham, Dave Webster, Ciaran Kelly, Paul Cleary
Midfielders: Forrester, Conor Clifford, James Doona, Darragh Markey, Dean Clarke, Jamie Lennon, Georgie Poynton, Cian Coleman, Brandon Miele, Rhys McCabe
Forwards: Gary Shaw, Mikey Drennan
As i said, i think Dundalk are a bit of a step up, but after that, i feel we are as good or better than the rest.

Christy's retired I think. Has a horrible knee injury he still hasn't recovered from after getting it mid way through last season and he's going to college in UCD so seems to be focusing fully on that.

That's a shame, was the best striker in the league on his day.

This was a good day for Pats no doubt about that, and as I said its looking like you'll be in with a good chance of euro quaificaiton, but I'm not sure that I would see Pats stronger than Rovers, i still think their MF is better even with the two new signings today. Cork will be dogged this season, they may have a lost a lot of key players but they still have a decent core about them, but I dont think they will be near title challengers.
Not much talk about Waterford, thye'll be looking to retain top 4, they might be a little short this season, but who knows, they will have good experience from last season.
Dundalk are very settled, a point i made before, alL 14 who played in the cup final are still there, plus at least 3 more will join before the cut off, (prob meaning 5 new joins for 2019) big things will be expected of Chevedukas this season and he's finally back injury free and in pre season training.
I think its fantastic for the league that Forrester is back though, good move for him also.
Dundalk are a step up on anything in the league. They are a well oiled unit.

We finished 15 points ahead of Rovers last season and 27 points ahead of yourselves. If we manage to have such a swing to finish below borth of you this season, Caulfield would be shot, let alone sacked.
Can't see it tbh. Theres a reason he's never yet finished outside the top 2,even in the first couple of years when we didn't have the quality of player of last or the previous.
Don't think we're guaranteed 2nd or anything but I'd be shocked if we finished outside the top 3. I wouldn't expect to mount a real challenge either though.
I feel a bit sorry for Buckley, moved on before the money returns. The drop off the last few years was down to a tighter budget & relying on younger players more than anything.
Have to agree. He isnt getting much done in the transfers in column now.
This season has potential to be even worse than the last two. We have no quality to work with.

I know it's old now sbgawa but Asterix must think kitchen sinks are legal tender. He does seem to come out of the woodwork inferring huge money is spent whenever Dundalk make a signing particularly from outside LoI. We havent quite reached the sort of money splashed around 2005-08 as individual clubs or as a league yet (but the boom is back afterall...). Similar to Rovers the manager/head coach of whatever Perth's title is given his budget and that's what he works with.

Where did I say huge money was spent? Usually with those type of signings if its a free signing, the players club announces that they've been released. Wigan have said he been transferred which would suggest a fee was involved.

Reliably informed that Jack Byrne was offered not only a kitchen sink but a fridge-freezer to sign for Rovers.

I was smiling at the comment.
Vinnie has his budget it's just a lot bigger than anyone else's. DFC have earned it , up to us to work harder and achieve more with less.
Then when we earn it spend spend spend :)

I think DFC have been fairly prudent so far in transfers and especially since P6 took over. I can only think to the McEleney transfer where they stumped up the money. I think that was 55k Sterling. Some will argue it was money spent buying back a player who left for free, maybe but he was out of contract, and same rules apply to all players in same situation.
For the 2019 season Dundalk have only taken in 3 new players, definite no transfer fees on two, Dan Kelly and Aaran McCarey while I’m not sure about Flores, I’d be surprised if there was one, seems more the case they allowed him to leave.
It’s worth noting a good few senior players have left already, Sava, Poynton and Ronan Murray, and O’Donnell retiring being the top ones and at least two fringe / younger lads have also moved on.
The sound bites from Perth and Gill would suggest at least two more will join pre 15/02, I think Dundalk need at least one more MF man, and possibly a right full to challenge Gannon. If Dundalk are to progress better in Europe this summer, options will need to be better than 2018. That was seriously exposed in Larnaca and the opportunity this summer is once in a long time, being the first Irish side seeded in the CL. That alone is ‘almost’ a bye into round 2.

Very excited by that squad, especially after the last few years. If Forrestor and Miele in particular perform to their potential we should be very strong. Defence looks good too.
Also agree that you'd have to feel a bit sorry for Liam, we certainly seem to have upped the budget since he left.
Edit : Note that we've signed Paul Cleary. Hope we haven't gone "downmarket" in doing so.
