Between demanding penalty decisions be overturned and thinking finishing mid-table makes you the greatest success story of the century, certain northside brands aren't far off.

Nuh be chatting like dat bout di Boez! Jah!

Any opinions on him? He didn't exactly set the world alight when playing for Limerick, did he?

Raised eyebrow or two at this Limerick way, definitely. We weren't what you'd call excited by his possible return to us, out of financial necessity, as was rumoured. But good luck to him.

I mean as if it even needed clarifying I did make it pretty clear I was talking about Europe at the end of that paragraph...

But yes, had Killian Brennan stayed fit we probably would have won the league and at the very least finished above Rovers if that 2-0 was anything to go by.

Yep, if only the whole season was dictated by ONE match against Shams  talk about clutching at straws ! By the way, do you reckon our U19 side should have qualified for Europe ? 'if that game in Richmond was anything to go by'

Maybe 5th. I think yous would need a purpose-built stadium if yous qualified for Europe.

I strongly suspect we will have a purpose build stadium before Pats do  (and that wont be anytime soon)

Any of the Limerick fans catch much of a glimpse of McGowan last year?

Went somewhat under the radar, understandably, but Paul O’Conor has signed for LTFC. We tried to sign him last year so Fenn clearly rates him. Hopefully he’s fit.

If I were you I'd hope he's interested as much as fit. Couldnt have been bothered putting any kind of effort in as a senior player on the pitch last year. Certainly wont be missed.

Yes I thought that might be the case also. We have to take what we can get at the moment.

He didn't make an impression at all as far as I can remember. Got very little game time. I noticed that he wasn't even on the bench towards the end of the season when we were struggling for attackers. I wouldn't expect much.

Couldn't get a game in a side without any goals in it.

Only Trevor Clarke, Seán Kavanagh, and the young lad whose name no one remembers are left as the top left backs in the league. I suppose Joey can play that position too...

House prices rocketing, crazy rents, people spending money, and Shels splashing the cash - if we get a points deduction somewhere along the line this season and it could be crazy 2005 season all over again....i'd rather not think about Dundalk FC circa 2005 mind!

Wouldn't mind so much going back to 2005, my first season going was a damn good one.

Meanwhile, Rainsford signed for us today. Not convinced by our attacking options going into the season.

Rainsford this year and O'Hanlon last year - does Caulfield see something the rest of us don't? All managers sign the odd average player but, bar Cummins who is obviously quality, Caulfield has made some questionable signings up front in the 18 months since Maguire left. Can't imagine Harry Kenny or Bradley signing Rainsford, let alone Dundalk, and Rovers have only one striker as it is!

Shamrock Rovers strict wage structure and not operating at a loss....relegation....:p

For my flippant comparison of Shels spending and seasons past its pretty mad how the footballing landscape has changed with Rovers, Cork and Dundalk at least actually operating without accruing unsustainable debt. The way Cork and Rovers fans turned things around by becoming fan owned and how Dundalk fans also kept the club afloat by by the skin of our teeth and all three clubs have since won the league after those horrible days. Can Shels follow that trend too when promoted??

definite 'marmite' (liked or loathed) throughout his career but on his day a sublime talent. Best of luck to him in the future.

Excellent player who has had an impact at every club. But he was far from a role model or one with obvious admiral personal qualities to warrant the "what a man" exclamation

Spot on. I don't recall him successfully commanding a single flotilla, never mind fleet, during a naval engagement.

I wasn't aiming that at the Shels bit but yeah guess it works for the bit said about them too.
