I'm sure this alone wouldn't have changed the outcome of Legia getting their late equaliser, but just something I noticed when Fagan was being substituted off late on in the game; he was jogging to the touchline, as if there was some sense of urgency or need for him to get off the field quickly. The crowd were on his back, but what of it? He should have been absolutely dawdling, as slowly as was physically possible. It's small things like that that can make a difference. Maybe it's naivety or inexperience at this level, but we could certainly be a lot more savvy in the dark art of killing off a game. Falling over, winning fouls; that sort of thing. Not running to the corner flag with six minutes to go!
The winning fouls comes back to this strenght thing again, you need to be strong able to hold off the challenge, but at the same time fall with the challege, or pull the player into you so you can go down with his arm tucked in for example, this all takes strength, particularly core and upper body strenght. Whenever Pats tried to hold onto the ball in midfield -towards the end- and pass it, the passing and tight spaces wasn't the problem, it was they were getting dispossed or bundled off the ball too easy.

What's the Roy Keane reference about?
Because they conceded in the last minute and people on here were happy with the 1-1.
I also thought when fagan was going off, he took his time, it was all in about 50 seconds for the subsitution to complete.

Lads,
it's a great result if they finish the job in ireland next week - simple as that! its all good going over there and doing well (which they did) but now they have to finish the job off next week - i for one hope they do!
Is the draw for the next round on tomorrow?

Yep. The draw for the next round in both competitions is tomorrow.

he did take his time i thought. If anyone should have taken their time it was Killer when he was coming off., straight away he said take me off. he should have milked it first. But neither were the make or break of the game
Certainly not; you're right. But it's all part and parcel of killing the game off. Every little helps.
the sitting-back mind-set is very hard to shake once it sets in.
Yeah, it's a nigh impossible matter of shaking out of eleven heads at once a pattern of play that has gradually seeped in across the board over a period of time. Leadership and initiative is required.
I also thought when fagan was going off, he took his time, it was all in about 50 seconds for the subsitution to complete.
Maybe I've been a bit harsh on Fagan. He wasn't sprinting, to be fair to him, but he did break into a brief trot closer to the touchline when there was no need to be doing anything of the sort. He should have been pushing past the minute-mark, at least! :p
I'm not making that big a deal of it, to be honest. Fagan wasn't responsible for the goal going in. It wasn't crucial in a direct sense, but it was just a small thing I would have liked to have seen executed differently. Let me engage in some completely amateur psycho-speculation... :p I think what concerned me was the fact his body language perhaps betrayed a readiness to comply with the crowd, as if the jeering was playing on his mind. That sort of thing would be water off a ducks back to a well-traveled professional with experience of playing in all sorts of hostile environments, but for a League of Ireland player not used to that sort of atmosphere, it might be intimidating. In that sense, maybe it was indicative of a wider issue, where our lads are lacking in the mental strength and experience departments.
There's nothing inherently wrong with taking the ball to the corner flag either - it can be very effective if done properly - but the manner in which it was done last night, six minutes from time, just struck me as incredibly panicky.
I don't want to sound overly critical; it was, of course, a terrific performance and St. Pat's certainly did the league proud. I'm just looking out for weaknesses or ways in which Irish clubs/players could do things differently.

Opening 10 minutes has been domination from Sligo, could even have scored in the opening 3 minutes. Rosenborg settling into it now though.

Extratime estimated 17,000. There was 15,000 expected before the game so it's probably not far off.

Is it just me, or does this just feel like a pre-season friendly? Pretty lifeless game.

Rosenborg are dirt. They're there for the taking. Sligo's final ball has been terrible, that's all that's holding them back.

Lech Poznan losing 1-0 in Estonia in injury time. Encouraging for Pat's.

In other news, Nomme Kalju of Estonia have beaten Lech Poznan 1-0 at home. A result that should give Pats hope surely?

Sligo looking good. The complete lack of atmosphere will suit them. Not many incidents - according to Extratime,ie http://www.extratime.ie/fixtures/detail/26789/1/

Ruch Chorzow scraped by 3-2 at home against Vaduz. All in all, not a great couple of days for the Polish sides.
Crues 2-0 down at half time against Bromma. Crues are technically the seeded team there.

A decent half from us, doing a lot better than I expected. I still think we need to get an away goal to have any hope and that doesn't look likely, expect to be under a lot more pressure as the game drags on. Hopefully the yellow cards don't come back to haunt us in 2nd half. Still, keeping the tie alive was what I wanted so will take a 0-0.

I think Bromma only got into the top flight within the last two seasons

Guessing that due to the fact the seedings would have had Ekranus going through. With them being bottom of the Swedish league, I fancied the Crues. Especially after their performances in the last round.

Still, if they get a goal then 2-1 is still an ok result.

Oh they're not out of it by a long shot and it seems they've had chances. Just thought it might be a bit better on the scoreboard.

Goal Sligo
I was just about to post that they hadn't even had a shot on goal, which meant they'd score any minute now. Scorer?

Sligo looking a lot like we did last night now dropping deep, no silly mistakes and they should be ok. The away goal was the most important thing to get even a 1-1 is a good result. Come on Sligo.
Best of luck to Derry and Dundalk as well.
