The plans are nowhere near as bad as Jackman.
What are the plans??
Iv a suspicion a lot of people dont realise just how bad they are.
Id agree with most of the rest of your post.

The plans are nowhere near as bad as Jackman. I admit the plans are pretty poor but anything, and I repeat anything, is better than Thomond Park. I have been a Limerick supporter since the late 70's and I will not be attending matches in Thomond Park again. It has nothing to offer from a football perspective. From day one the football crowd have been treated like Ryanair passengers, the pitch is poor, there's a complete lack of atmosphere, postponed games, no parking, the football on offer doesn't help either. The sooner we're out of there the better. The Markets Field is the spiritual home and The Markets Field is where we need to be, and fast. Another season in TP and we're as good as dead! Imagine what the player budget will be like next season if we have to stay in TP? It doesn't bear thinking about but I reckon it would be something close to the teams Noel O'Connor put out.
Went to Thomond last season and thoght the stewards were the most courteous in the country.
In my opinion Limerick play a poisonous brand of football under Taylor and thats the reason your crowds have nosedived.

Limerick stewards will always be courteous to supporters of other teams - it's our own that get treated like s****e. There shall be no argument from me regarding the poisonous brand of football Taylor has us playing but it has proven to be very very effective against Bohs!

I haven't heard any mass complaints about the stewards since halfway through last season.

I hope so
Poor Crowd last nite, but the club doesn't even seem to be promoting the games, now i could be wrong but the only poster i seen for the match was outside the ground

Jackman was a bad ground, but the plans for the new Markets Field are pure poison.

Markets Field is just a bigger Jackman as far I'm concerned the only difference being the stand in Jackman kept you dry if it rained the ones in MF wont.

That's when half the crowd went and never came back.
I don't believe that style of football or having local players has a major effect on crowds. Winning matches outweighs these pretty much to negligibility.
Harps have had all local teams, sometime playing decent football, but if they aren't winning people lose interest. Back in the day (late nineties, early 2000s) we had a good sprinkling of non locals and good crowds because we were decent. Longford would of course ideally have more local players- but it'd be suicide to bring guys in who aren't as good as what they'd have otherwise.

Correct there hasn't been a poster up in de town or on the way into town all season, then people wonder why we can't attract new followers to games. Ridiculous.

I agree with you there. People in Limerick keep saying if there was more locals in the team crowds would support them. At one stage we had a complete team of locals, struggled and people didn't come out to watch us. We now have a midfield with Duggan, Rainsford, Tracy and Hughes all locals and people still aren't coming out to support the team. Terrible football a bad results at home is killing us.

Not suggesting side should be stocked with local players - you get the best you can afford, simple as that. But the point I'm making is there is probably no connection town and Town. Under Stephen Kenny, for example, wasn't the team mainly non local players, but they would go in to town after game and be seen around the place. I hear that's not the case any more

That was the case with Kenny but in fairness you're talking 12-15 years ago, the Town were having some success for the first time ever and there was a novelty factor, the majority of people in the town only started going to games then and since then were treated to Premier Division football and cup finals, it was inevitable that dropping down to the first division would seriously hurt our attendances.
Some of the players in fairness have been out in town, particularly last season but to be fair to them the majority of locals wouldn't waste their money going out in Town on your average Saturday night so it's a bit much to expect players to.

Exactly, the group of players we had last year (most have remained this year) were probably the most 'fan friendly' since the Stephen Kenny days.

not bad. How were the 39 away fans? if that. prob 50+away to pats possibly 100+. Inchicore is nicer for away fans than Oriel especially with being a hour closer to Cork.

Is the parking facility at LIT not there this season? There was ample parking space there last season.
For such a supposedly important project, it's amazing that there were no artist's impressions of the finished project or no 3D rendering of the plans. This suggests to me that there was no proper architect involved in the application for planning permission.
The only positive thing is that no work has been done since planning permission was granted. I don't know if the LEDP is considering some revisions to the plans, but let's hope so.
The most important factor in growing the attendance is getting results.
People often complain that there aren't enough locals in the squad, but as other posters have pointed out, even when we had the best local players in the squad people didn't come out in their droves to follow them.
People often complain about the style of play too. But most people don't care that much about the style of play, as long as you win. Let's face it, an awful lot of people would prefer to see us knocking balls over the top for Gaffney or whoever to chase after and then shoot immediately. A lot of people don't have the patience for slow build-ups.
Then again, it's very hard to break out of a circle of negativity. Numerous runs of success in the First Division did little to bring out crowds then (not until the "big match" came along), and we went into the game against Sligo on a run of D W W D.
My conclusion is that maintaining attendance has as much to do with managing expectations as winning games. For me personally, the wins are all the sweeter for struggles you go through to achieve them.

Why is this the same as last season for Pats? Official crowd figures are being released and disputed on here most weeks by Pats fans. Why is it so difficult to agree the correct attendance?
Unless the figures are actually just disappointing?

Pats didn't even release a figure for the Rovers match. They scanned the tickets tonight so it's hardly like they're not able to keep track. Assuming they didn't count season ticket holders or something.

It wasn't a great crowd in Bray last night. I would say about 650 at it with a couple of Limerick fans around the place. Extratime has 450 which is wrong again as when it started to rain it was better to judge the crowd when everyone was in the tent.

Spot many Harps fans? I hear there was 10 or 15 travelled, which is either a great credit to them, or completely insane.
