Still a pretty decent gate. Would really like to see Galway come back up. Great place for an away game and to make a weekend of it.

Great crowd in Galway considering the weather,Id imagine Galway would be capable of averaging 1500ish if they get promoted? Could be the next Sligo:) Real good crowd in Cork too, was told 6500 by a few regulars.

I think that's roughly where they used to be. They'd be a good addition to the premier.

I'm not sure how there was only 6200 people in Turners Cross last night. Many many were forced to stand out in the rain.

About 2000 in bray. Covered stand holds 1000 and was full with more standing in it plus the other Dundalk fans standing in the rain!

Our gate receipts went up but our attendances didn't.

According to Oriel, attendances have risen by about 20%

Our average league crowd is just over 2,350 this season, (1,950 was the avg last season) it might jump to over 2,400 depending on the crowd for the final game.

Should we hit a poor patch next season or have a few of the less attractive games in a row we could struggle.

What do you mean by "struggle"?

Struggle to retain the increased attendances, or struggle financially?

Some lads are the right precious princesses altogether, a bit of bad wintry weather and they can't make a game.

643 official attendance in Belfield for UCD v Galway. Mostly away fans, maybe 850 really there?

5,300 for Dundalk v Cork, source dundalkfc.com.

As per oriel web, Dundalk's attendances increased by 7,021 on 2013, (one game less played) and the final average was 2,535 (1,973 in 2013)

That should allow Cork to put a budget in place for 2015 that no other club can match.

Do you think the club will try to reduce these costs by maybe investing in their own training ground?

Everytime we sell a player the funds are ring fenced for this very purpose. We don't yet have a viable site available.

I know you are joking but I don't think any of our current players are ready for a move. Gearóid Morrissey perhaps but that's unlikely.

We do have a few U19s who may be gone before they break through to the first team though, similar to Alan Browne.

We'll still be conservative with our playing budget. 2013 was a warning for what can go wrong as our crowds dropped dramatically.

Thanks for taking the time and considerable effort Nigel for updating all of this during the season.

Its disappointing to note that 9 of the 12 PD clubs showed decreases, and some were quite worrying too with the defending champions sticking out with 300 less, and they had a good season. Sligo had a similar drop but with their final position and so many changes they did very well to finish with just under 2k. There wasnt much change to the PD average and its possible this may increase next year if Galway and Longford do ok, but both will find it quite challenging.

I would also consider our attendances to be a little disappointing considering the best football on offer in a generation and trophies won. However to be fair it did increase by 30%, and there may be a chance to attract closer to an avg of 3k next season, its a gradual thing increasing your support base, so hopefully the trend can continue.

If anyone is interested, here are our top 10 crowds of the season, in all comps. In bold are NOT league games.

24-Oct Cork 5,300
20-Sep Rovers 3,500
18-Apr Rovers 3,364
13-Jun Pats 3,135
17-Jul Haj Spl 3,014
13-Oct Rovers 3,012
29-Aug Bohs 2,627
23-May Sligo 2,614
10-Jul J. Esch 2,544
20-May Drogs 2,383

It's a title run or nothing else. MF will just be as the first year back in the premier: novelty will bring a brief surge, then back to the status quo. It's depressing to see the lack of interest from such a significant urban area, but that number is basically what the reliable support is.

No ones gonna be interested in watching the absolute ****e we produced for most of the year. We even lost an awful lot of what I'd call semi regulars by the end of the season, never mind casual support.

If Lims play like they did for the last 1/3 of the season they'll bring the fans back. Taylor had them playing well below their abilities, so if Russell is backed to bring in some good players I think they'll play ball people want to pay to see. I think next season they'll have more big home games, which will push the average up a little.

For a long time, I emailed clubs asking for attendance figures, but largely to no avail. More recently, I've relied heavily on this thread and any official attendance given in media, newspapers and Extratime mostly, as well as a few officials of different clubs on Facebook who have been most helpful. I tend to trawl back through the threads here a lot to find any sort of attendances. The likes of Oriel, trevvy and forzayouths have been great help over the season when it comes to this sort of thing.

I understand that, LOI clubs don't do the simple stuff they could be doing. If you have collected the attendances in one spreadsheet or something could you share that with me though? If I have to I'll go through the 51 pages of this thread to pick them all up, but if they work has already been done I'd rather not duplicate it.

I suppose. Still a disappointment whatever the reason that support has fallen away.

Support falls because they had little to play for the whole season. Taylor didn't play an exciting brand of football either. It's all well and good having great facilities like Thomond but if the product on offer is defective then people won't come back.
Limerick as a city is an oddity in itself. It is home to strong junior football sides, huge rugby clubs and the Munster franchise, and that's not considering the GAA clubs there. Hopefully Russell will get a good team. Like Dundalk Limerick have probably lost out on a generation of supporters considering how long it is since they last won anything. Them it is also like a cork in having different clubs throughout the years either being Limerick City, united, 37 it doesn't help.

How long has it been since Limerick played in Market Fields? Personally I never heard of it since the redevelopment plans were being concocted
