More likely is that Shels beat Harps and Shels and Cork paly out a mutually beneficial but no doubt competitive draw and Monaghan miss out - assuming MUFC defeat Athlone.

WHAT!!!!! NO CHANCE!

We are going up to Dublin with the intention of winning the league. We will not be playing for a draw, no way no how. We're not afraid of Galway or any team, if we go up to Shels and lose we'll face Galway and go out to try and win those games too.

I'd be disgusted if after dragging ourselves back from 10 points behind Shels we didn't do everything we could to try and lift the trophy for fear of missing out on automatic promotion. It might be different if there was no playoff to fall back on but even still if you play for a draw you get beaten more often than not in my experience.

Moreover, it is looking like we will bring anywhere from 600-1200 fans to this game and it would be a smack in the face of each and everyone of us if Tommy Dunne didn't set up his team to go out and win the League of Ireland First Division Title for us.

El-Pietro

on top of that I don't remember if Tommy Dunnes contract has been renewed yet, but assuming it hasn't, if he tried something like that he'd be out the door pretty quickly.

You may not know this about us but we have a pretty high opinion of ourselves in Cork and we expect to win things. We also really don't like anything from Dublin, and Shels are not exactly popular among Cork City support. Arranging a deal that would see them lift the trophy in front of us would not make you very popular in this part of the world

we need Shels to do the business v Cork because I couldn't face another play-off!

Terryland Park has sturdy walls though :)

Still think a draw is the most liekly result and definitely can't see Shels beating Cork, who have proved themselves the best team in the division in recent weeks. Not really that worried as its all immaterial if United fail to do the business in Athlone.

Oh a draw is certainly a good possibility but at the same time there's no chance we'll be playing for one.

Focus on tomorrow night first, Harps might do us all a favour yet!

Any word from Shels fans is the game going ahead? Fancy Harps to cause an upset tonight.

Someone connected to the club said on Shelsweb that the pitch is playable bar one corner that's easily drained but some folk saying the rain is not letting up at all so up in the air at the moment.

Nice and sunny now in south Dublin. That can change obviously, but seems the pitches may have a few hours to dry now.

Are the roads to the grounds clear? I heard the likes of Foster's Avenue and the N11 under the flyover bridge were particularly bad last night.

If it wasn't us looking for a result I would have high hopes of an upset between Athlone vs Mons or Harps vs Shels.

The problem is I can not remember one match this season that we have been looking at other teams to drop points in that have gone our way. Usually if we are looking for Mons, Cork or Shels to drop points a specific week or in a specific match they hammer the team they are playing or score last minute.

Harps are a decent team and if i remember correctly it was a very close match in Tolka earlier in the season.

Predicition Shels 3-1 Harps :(

The pitch is in near perfect condition, it's going ahead.

Mon the Shels, fecking nervous as hell about this. Will be a magic feeling getting back to the Premier tonight, it's been too long.

that doesnt mean we don't expect more!

I actually think 2 titles, 2 cups, 3 league cup and a setanta cup (plus something like 18 Munster Senior Cups) in 27 years isn't a bad start.

How they worked that out i dont know

that doesnt mean we don't expect more!In my opinion such arrogance has no place in supporting a football team.

It makes me cringe just like that awful "we're from Cork and we're better than you" chant.

Then surely Cork are a new team by the same logic. What really in Limerick FC changed? Due to a legal issue the club had to change its name for a season and a half and then reverted back to limerick FC. There may have been different owners and chairmen in limerick but the same people have been working in or around the club when we where Limerick FC then Limerick 37 and now Limeick FC. We have had the same fans and a lot of the same players.

Just because a piece of paper might say that legally (i don't know the specifics) we are a different club, to the fans and the people of limerick we are the same club and that's all that really matters to us.

Jofspring

I agree with you razor. The way some cork fans go on you would swear no other club or fans want to be successful but it's just a cork thing cause that's the way they are. You can want to win things and be successful but also be realistic.

I haven't ever met a single fan from another club that hasn't wanted their club to win things, it's just not all fans go around shouting from the roof tops that we are better than ye because we some how think we expect to win more than ye.

Yer all new clubs, otherwise ye would all be working off the same debts that folded the club in the first place (or the 2nd, 3rd, etc)

Harps were extremely unlucky not to win never mind lose down in Tolka eralier this season, we had stone wall peno turned down and a perfectly fine goal disallowed in that game, Shels scored with only goal effort on target.

But Cork City were still around when Cork FORAS came along so there is no way you could possible say it was the same club....

Either we are all new clubs or we are all old clubs...Not that i really care just dont get why Cork fans think they are different..

Dont get how you think you and Derry are not new and we are at all.

Sam_Heggy
25/10/2011, 6:03 PM
Pretty sure we had no debts wiped by the changing of name. Our debts where wiped first of all when Jack McCarthy took over the club by his own money and then while we weren't in debt yet Pat O Sullivan put forward the funds that where needed for us to finish out the season and has since took full control as everyone is fully aware.

So why change name?

bluewhitearmy
25/10/2011, 6:05 PM
So why change name?

Because Limerick 37 was the worst name ever?

Limerick 37 never folded we just changed our name back to FC.

Jofspring
25/10/2011, 6:07 PM
So why change name?

Danny Drew who was the owner of Limerick FC at the time was basically wanted out by the FAI. He was battling to hold onto the name Limerick FC because as far as he was concerned he still owned the club. Nobody wanted Drew involved and a new group of people wanted to basically take over the senior team in limerick. The only way they could do this was by changing the name.

As I say as far as we are concerned here the same people have been doing the hard work behind the scenes and the same fans have been going to games through all the hard times so it's basically the same club. Certainly in our eyes anyway.

Incorrect in Limericks case.

You'd a load of hoss to say about Pat O'Sullivan earlier on in the year aswell if memory serves.

You should arguably devote all your energies to sorting out Finn Harps rather than picking up sticks by their wrong end. :good:

So the current Limerick was formed when?

What did I say about Sullivan that wasn't true? That he was pumping big money into the club?

Imagine ye relying on the likes of Harps to do ye a favour tonight after all that money spent. Another year in the First Division? Must be the FAI's fault.

After 57 years of existence we've been through our fair share of scrapes, sure didn't we get a licence handier than Limerick did this season :o

Limerick must have thought we were in the right when they appealed against the FAI's decision. Cheers for that by the way, feeling the love ;)
