More importantly did you reserve seats on the train along with booking the tickets?

www.hrs.de for hotels ... there were some half decent places available 2-3 weeks ago, might have to settle for something on the outskirts tho. im the stuttgart fan that tipped off junior re: the tickets, btw ... so if anyone is looking for help, gimme a shout.
as far as kickoff time goes ... germany home matches rarely kick off before 5pm ... i guess its gonna be something between 6 and 8pm

Good man Jens - hope you got tickets yourself though!! I wouldnt say the German FA are too pleased with you!! :)
What is stuttgart like as a city - is there a main square type set-up with a few bars where all fans meet up?

I haven't lived there for a few years, but what I can tell you is that Stuttgart is a very pleasant, but small city. The main area is Königstrasse which is directly from the Hauptbahnhof (central station). There are plenty of bars around and I am sure Irish fans will be made more than welcome.
This is where I used to go drinking :o

It´s their own fault really if they put the ticketing into the hands of an agency and don´t get suspicious when they get orders from UK addresses ...
There is one pretty big main square, the Schlossplatz. Celtic gathered there when we played them and they also put up some big screens for people to watch the WC matches. They´ll pull the fences and the big screens down after the WC tho.
Stuttgart as a city, well ... you have to live here to enjoy it and find the nice sides, but if you´re only here for a few days you´ll most likely enjoy it. They actually even stained the running track green ...
This is it on the afternoon of the Netherlands/Ivory Coast game ...

@ Frank
I´d expect Biddy Early´s to be way, way, way overcrowded ... better have a plan b ready as getting in there on that weekend is gonna be a nightmare. Sophie´s Brauhaus next door has been VERY popular with travelling football fans. There´s another bar called O´Reilly´s, but it´s way smaller than Biddy Early´s ... on the other hand, why gather at Irish bars? It´s not like you don´t have that back at home, so try some of the local brews and bars.

Hahn is in the middle of nowhere! Typical for Ryanair to call it Frankfurt as it takes you a bit to get to Frankfurt.

Try www.hrs.de ... I always use them myself. Most half decent hotels are obviously gone by now, but the Stadthotel am Wasen (85 € for a double) looks good. It´s about a 10 minute walk to the stadium and a taxi to town won´t be more than 10-15 € ... there´s a tube station right at the hotel, as well.
If you´re still looking for tickets, try ebay. The prices are still face value + a tenner and I expect them shoot up any minute once people here realize there´s life after the WC.

does anyone know how much taxi's cost in germany.
we're arriving into baden-baden at about 8pm on friday - don't want to waste time gettin to train station and then paying for train. theres 4 of us so i reckon a taxi cant be mor than €60 each (250 for the trip.). i think it's about 60 miles to stuttgart from baden baden.
for paris we flew into chareoli (aka brusselles) and got train to paris but it ended up costing us about €100 ea and taxi quoted us €300 for 6 but we had already paid for train!!

Apologies if this has already been mentioned (couldn't be arsed trawling through the 25+ pages in this thread!) but if you're looking for cheap accommodation and don't mind a bit of roughing it go to the following for camping just 10 mins train outside Stuttgart:

Sent them a mail last week and booked for under 10 Euro a night!!!
Now all I have to do is find some tickets!

That would be my advice anyway. It just seems a little messy if you're getting the train considering that it's an hour and a half drive just to get to the train station. We haven't checked the price of the car hire yet but it normally works out ok if it's between 3 or 4 people. What I would say though is that if you're hiring a car I'd organise it a bit before flying as God only knows how many Irish fans are flying Ryanair into Frankfurt Hahn that weekend and they will only have so many cars available.

while Im flying into Stuttgart, it would appear that loads are flying into Hahn, why dont 1 of you set up a thread to collect numbers from the flights and look into hiring a coach. Its 163 miles and according to autoroute a 2 1/2 hr drive. Even with 30 on a coach it would probably be far cheaper than hiring cars and more crack!!:ball: :ball: :ball:
