[QUOTE=Jon'o]booked flights, seemed the cheapest option was stanstead to Karlsruhe Baden Baden for £126 stg... flying out saturday morn at 7am and returning sunday at 7pm (couldnt get any more time off work  ) anyone one else on this flight / route?

whats the story with the train? i have gone on to the german rail website and when i enter karlsruhe baden it comes up with a number of station options, does anyone know for sure what station i should be looking for? as far as i could make out it should be about 22/44 yoyo's return?

Has anyone flown into Karlsruhe-Baden with ryanair before? Getting in there myself on the saturday morning and, from what I can gather on the web, there's a bus connection from the airport down to Stuttgart. Anyone know about this, or how far it is from the airport to the nearest train station? Any help appreciated.

I might fly into Cologne, looking the cheapest option so far. 2 hours on the train I think

Flew into Karlsruhe-Baden for Basel 1, there is a bus connection that will get you into town, probably best to get the train to Stuttgart.

One bizarre thing is that there is no bus to the airport on Sunday, so you have to get a taxi, this might have changed since mind you. Airport is your typical Ryanair airport, middle of nowhere!!!!!

My tickets have arrived this afternoon, thankfully somebody was in for once to sign for em. I ordered them Friday so it's good service.

Thanks for that, sounds like i shouldn't be relying on the buses anyway!

its just an application for an application form. fai site says that forms will be sent once home association confirms details. wouldnt mind getting confirmation that they received my email though!

received application from fai today

3 categories of tickets - 37/27/22euros. Does this mean that Irish tickets may be in various parts of ground or just that there are better seats within the irish section?

suppose ill just go cat 4 (27euro) - hope the spares will be handy enough to offload!!!

The cheapest seats are on the lower tier, see the stadium guide elswhere on the forum. From previous posts you seem to be best off in the mid or higher levels, i.e. not the cheapest seats!

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2008 QUALIFYING FIXTURE

GERMANY V REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

SATURDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 2006

VENUE: GOTTLIEB-DAIMLER STADIUM, STUTTGART

Dear Sir/Madam,

I refer to your request for an application form for the above fixture.

Due to the extensive number of people wishing to travel to this fixture and
the limited allocation of just 5,000 tickets, which is our 10% entitlement
as per FIFA rules, we regret to inform you that we are unable to meet your
request for tickets on this occasion.

It is an impossible task to satisfy the level of demand following our
contractual obligations and commitments to sponsors, partners, squad
members and those persons currently holding a block booking for all home
Internationals at Lansdowne Road which includes individual members of the
public, Clubs, Leagues and Affiliates.

We appreciate your disappointment. However as with all away games, the
number of tickets we receive is not within our control.

We have made a special request to the German FA for an additional
allocation of tickets and will not be made aware of the outcome of this
request until after the World Cup concludes. We believe that it is very
unlikely that we will receive further tickets. At this point I would like
to acknowledge and thank you for your continued support of the Irish Team.

So if we are getting 5,000 "official tickets" via the FAI, how many others have been purchased ( like many of us ) directly, through the back door!............another 5,000 or do we anticipate a Paris like invasion?

i reckon therll be a good crowd alright but i'd also imagine that many of the people applying to fai have already bought tickets through the german fa so some people will probably have ticket sto offload if theyre successful in the fai draw

Lads If I was a block booker and I got that e mail I would contact the FAI. I think that e mail is meant for non block bookers and they may have made an admin error there. I am a block booker and I got the letter asking me to applyl for tickets. I am a blockbooker since 2002 but went to most home games before that.

j Byrne did you quote your blockbooking number on your e mail when you applied. I would contact them straight away if I was you. They have made admin errors in the past and will probably do so in the future.

contacted the fai and all sorted. form on the way. was an error on my part due to my applying under my own name rather than my brothers whose name is down as blockbooker. in fairness to the ticket office i always find them helpful and very responsive. have block booked since 1992 match V USA (first BB match) so would have been disgusted if I hadnt even been given a chance to enter the ticket raffle

Lads,
is there any way to get the DHL number without ringing the German ticket office? I don't want them to cop I'm Irish etc. and pull my tickets back. I've emailed their help desk twice but got no reply. Called DHL and they said they cannot trace without AWB number.

Would suggest that you have nothing to lose at this stage by ringing the Eventim Customer Service. If your tickets have already been sent they will be with DHL and traceable. If they haven't even sent them yet and are no longer sending to addresses in Ireland then it doesn't matter.

While having a nose on ebay at the german touts selling tickets for the game i noticed that one also advertised that the tickets came with free travel before and after the game....

on further investigation it would seem true i asked the lad who was selling the tickets about the travel and this is what he came back with:

Ticket holders are allowed to use the regional public transport network of VVS 3 hours before the game, and also until midnight after the game. VVS covers the greater Stuttgart area with bus, tram and underground lines. The above mentioned conditions are printed on every ticket, in case there should be any doubts. It is a standard service for big concerts, open airs and major sporting events in Germany in order to encourage spectators to use public transport instead of cars and vans. If you are traveling to the game by car/van/bus, the best bet would be to park at a so called Park and Ride stop, and then use the public transport system.

The free transport thing was the case when I was there with Celtic in 2003. Though to be honest when you have 15k-20k fans on an away trip, paying for your underground tickets rarely seems to happen:D :D

True! I can remember getting the metro from near the James Joyce in Paris and fans were just trotting past the poor ticket guy who was completely powerless. One of my mates was so bananas drunk he went off to pee near the track line (the toilet looked like the one from Trainspotting) only to be quickly reminded of the health implications of urinating onto an electrified line :)

Thats a feature of the Bundesliga and the regional leagues there, match ticket entitles travel on the day of and up to 3 am on the day afterwards. Very well organised indeed.

Welcome Murty.

Yes - if you know anybody that lives outside of the Republic of ireland and can receive the tickets for you to their address. Plenty of time to get them sent from anywhere in the world but you must act fast to order them before they are sold out. Once ordered they'll have them in a couple of weeks max.

anyone still looking for accom - the crowd at www.stuttgart-tourist.de got back to me today - seem pretty helpful.

Most of decent places are gone but I know a few have rooms for the weekend still - one mad place they offered me though was some kind of evangelist retreat! german is rusty but there was stuff like "looking after old people and sick people".... not that ideal i'd say!

Not being smart, but who cares, those lovely people in eventim delivered our tickets and we'll turn up whenever they want us!!!

Prefrence woud be about 7pm as it breaks up the day, 9pm is too late and an afternoon is far too early.

Well considering that I'll be driving down from Brussels on the Saturday morning, I very much care. If the kickoff is at something stupid like 12.00pm I'll have to be on the road from about 4 or 5 and that's something I'd rather not have to do.

the hardship is part and parcel of the whole thing - not many supporters do it the easy way!!! :) some people will be sleeping in airports/train stations etc and busing and training it from all over the place!

are you living in Brussels or renting a car from there? If you live there why not head down friday night - the night before game is always a good one! (is it about a 5 hour journey? - might be way off)

Nah a friend lives there. The original plan was to head down on the Friday night but now we can't (long story). No problem with hardship just don't fancy driving after having a load of beers the night before and then only 2 hours sleep!!! ;)

Ah sure, I'll struggle through!!! :p
