GOLF STAR MCGINLEY REVEALS SECTARIAN ABUSE BECAUSE OF HIS LOVE OF CELTIC
Golfing star Paul McGinley has revealed how he regularly receives sectarian abuse because he is a big Celtic fan.
And the millionaire sportstar, who mum and dad come from Donegal, said the worst offenders are children!
The Dubliner uses a Celtic towel when playing and often wears the colours of the Scottish club.
But in an extensive interview with the Shaun Doherty Show on Highland Radio, he admits he has paid for his devotion to the Glasgow side.
“The Rangers fans are not very fond of me even though that with ninety nine per cent of them it’s juts a bit of banter.
“I have had a few incidents in Scotland. The nastiest moments have been with the kids. They would often ask me for an autograph and then they would tear it up in front of me and call me a Fenian so and so.
“That’s just the way things are but you just get on with it,” he said.
The married father of three, 45, says his ultimate ambition was to play GAA for Dublin but breaking his knee-cap at just 19 shattered that dream.
“I was playing senior football at just 16 and I was quite good and I would have loved to play for Dublin and I might have but for I broke my knee-cap.
“I am still a mad GAA fan and I try to watch it no matter where in the world I am. If I had a choice of any sport to watch, it would be GAA. I just love its passion,” he said.
McGinley revealed although he has made a great living out of playing golf, he rarely watches it.
“I don’t enjoy watching golf, in fact I don’t watch a lot of it. I get bored watching it,” he said.
McGinley admits there is a danger of becoming caught up in the celebrity lifestyle which he finds himself.
He revealed how he recently was invited to play golf with the King of Ghana and has also played with the King of Malaysia and the King of Morocco.
He says he loves coming home to Ireland to help him bring himself and his family back down to earth.
“You do expect a lot but that’s not a good trait. It’s great to come home to Ireland and even to go back to Donegal where my mother and father are from.
“I often think ‘how am I going to talk my kids into going back to Donegal?’ because they see and do so much.
“But we always try to teach them that manners are so important. I make a point of being grateful to people when they help me out. I respect people no matter what level of life they are at,” he said

I think there is a papist conspiracy to deny Hearts that first goal which was over the line.

We were superb Wednesday, one of the best atmospheres I've been in for an away game. Our away support is the best in Britain and Ireland bar none.

It's coming home:D

Celtic are the 10th biggest club in Europe in terms of match day revenue.

And still some on here say we're not a big club:cool:

Bye, bye Rangers!

Won't that be "bye, bye SPL" if Rangers are would up?

Surely the whole league would be pointless (or more pointless than now) with Celtic and 11 others also rans every year. What little interest, and therefore money generated, is because of the OF.
I think Celtic fans might need to be careful what they wish for.

A pound coin was thrown onto the pitch at Ibrox last weekend. Police are trying to determine whether it was a missile or a takeover bid.

I heard a good one recently. Rangers don't pay their taxes, Celtic do, therefore, Celtic are more loyal to the queen. Irony eh.

Looking very bad for Rangers after a day when the first redundancies of playing staff were announced -which is the small fry story. The SFA and SPL are now investigating illegal payments to players going back to 1998 that could see them forfeit half a dozen titles.

Barring some deus ex machina Rangers in this shape and form are done for. All that remains to be seen is if a new company will be parachuted into the SPL.

So Celtic won the league in a division where they are far and away the biggest club and their nearest rivals are deducted a skip of points.
What a joke the SPL is.
There is no competition there so I really don't know why they are all so excited.

What's your point? If Man City were deducted 10 points in January the EPL title race would be over too. Rangers have been deducted points for a very good reason. Rangers estimated debt at this point assuming their expected defeat in the HMRC tax case is £130m+. This means Rangers have spent £130m they never generated, have no intention of repaying and indeed never will repay and have enjoyed considerable success while doing so. As a Celtic supporter I am delighted to see Celtic win the league and even more so in light of this.

Just wondering if rangers will be allowed to enter euro comps this year? Which would be great for Motherwell going into the CL

They're definitely unable to play in Europe next year even if they aren't liquidated. So the 2nd CL place will go to whoever finishes third if Rangers finish second.

Pretty jammy penalty though, surely? Ref couldn't give it quickly enough I thought.

It was never a penalty but that's football sometimes. Get over it and stop making a holy show of yourself and, far more importantly, Celtic Football Club.

PS: The final should be a great occasion, fantastic for both sides. Beattie's celebration was pretty funny too.

He thought it was Wanyama who handled it. Problem is Ledley is white; Wanyama is black. Sums that ref up. Obviously another mason in black, he'll go places with the SFA.

The issue of whether Wanyama's hand made contact with the ball is surely not in question, even in that poor quality gif. The issue is whether it was deliberate or not.

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that at all in the previous clips. I only saw the first handball. That looks a penalty to me now.

agreed. Hadnt seen the second handball. Definite contact and apparently deliberate movement towards the ball from Wanyama. Penalty.

Why is that any ref who gives a decision against Celtic is a mason? What does that make the ones who make decisions in favour? A papist?

Deliberate doesn't seem to come in to it anymore. The current rule appears to be that if the arm is raised and it hits it = peno whether deliberate or not.

Not sure about this but I think Hearts have had the hoodoo sign over Hibs for quite a while now.

After all the drama of today's events, with Green buying out the club, have Rangers been formally liquidated yet? When they are, interesting that they need four more clubs to block their expulsion, so no good relying on Celtic this time.

culloty82
22/06/2012, 7:35 AM
It was to be expected that Rangers were going to be blocked, but now Dundee United and Hearts have officially announced their intention to vote no. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18539483) Motherwell have decided to let their fans decide, which presumably also mean no, and Inverness and St. Mirren are also leaning towards the nay camp, so looks like Ibrox will be hosting Division Three football come August.

Not if they buy out Cowdenbeath and enter the scots first div - or the more bizarre, buy out Bury and enter english football.

Except if they went to the likes of Colchester or Swindon, leaving disruption in their wake...

culloty82
22/06/2012, 12:58 PM
Can't see the Bury idea being a runner - if they were in urgent need of cash, Gary Neville would presumably be able to organise a consortium, while Man United's previous links with the club could also come into play. Another idea being floated is that Newco would be admitted, but then instantly demoted to the First as a punishment, though that seems less likely now.

Hibs have said they'll vote no now as well. With Motherwell almost certain to go for No.. it now seems Rangers need all the remaining clubs to go their way.

Meanwhile there is a criminal investigation being launched into Whyte's takeover.

Edit: Here's a good piece on the clubs' voting intentions. Looks like the Rangers newco have no chance of getting in the SPL. http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/rangers/106806-rangers-newco-vote-the-spl-powerbrokers-in-their-own-words/

Second edit: I still suspect there'll be a fudge though.
