Is the game, rte island of ireland or world? Doesn't say on here -> https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2018/0803/982950-rte-to-screen-both-legs-of-cork-citys-europa-showdown/

Probably more likely to be the south only. Seem to remember Sky blocking matches in previous years.

I live just over the border, if you have a smart tv you can switch over to athena and select RTE on the free to air channel, you won’t get the pause or rewind etc, but you should be able to get the match.

The same happens me for RTE on the sky platform for CL or Ireland games, no access, usually watch CL on BT Sport, but for Ireland games I switch to free view and off the sky platform and it works fine.

Anyway, what's the mood like down further south with those of the Cork (city) persuasion?

I think excited and looking forward to it, without being overly confident. The away game against Legia will have dampened expectations (compared to the home performance).

Personally, I'm optimistic but if I was betting in it I don't think we'll win the tie. Right result tomorrow night though and who knows. Should be a great atmosphere and night at the Cross anyway.

Well if you do somehow win the tie. It’s looking very likely to be Shkendija.

Salzburg were always gonna win that one easily.

Ya im guessing that hopefully an app will work properly for me, ive been relying on them more recently than dodgy streams. Got a stream for one on the phone which is used for work and ever since I'm getting p*rn notifications all the time :/

Saw ye on TV brendy out in minsk, good trip?

Anyone have a link to the game or a way to view it for anyone not based in Ireland?

Minsk is clean, modern and very well designed. It was 95% destroyed in the Second World War, and they've done a great job of building a modern city. However, there's just nothing to do. You can see all there is to see within a few hours.
A entirely pleasant place to visit for a match, but there'd be no reason to go there for tourism.

I generally use the Mobdro app. Download directly from their site, it's not on the Play store.

Could be the start of the LoI's last hurrah in Europe for another year tonight.

Though at least we have the honour of having given Dinamo Minsk an almighty root up the hole; they're 3-0 up at home to Zenit St Peterburg at half time in their home leg.

In coefficient terms, we are currently 35th on 7.450 points. If Cork knock Rosenborg out, that would set up an interesting tie against Shkendija of Macedonia, who are 34th on 8.000. Hungary are a point further ahead, and then there's four points to Slovakia ahead of them. So realistically, this is as good as it's going to get for a few years.

But if Cork lose, there's six countries who could pass us out. So we're looking at -

...Finland, who are 0.175 behind us. HJK face Olimpija Ljubljana in this round
...Albania, who are 0.200 behind us. Kukesi are 4-1 down in Georgia at half-time
...Moldova, who are 0.200 behind us. Sheriff are 0-0 against Valur - near conquerors of Rosenborg - at half-time
...Bosnia, who are 0.450 behind us. Zrinskij Mostar are 1-0 down against Ludogorets Razgrad at half-time
...Iceland, who are 0.450 behind us. Valur are in Moldova - see above
...Lithuania, who are 1.200 behind us, but have two teams left. Suduva beat Spartaks today, so that's an extra 0.250, while Zalgiris Vilnius are away to Sevilla, so that's probably a nil. If Suduva win, they play the loser of Celtic v AEK for a place in the Europa League, and they'll probably be thinking that's not the worst draw they could have gotten.

National coefficient is less important these days, but a climbing coefficient would still be nice, and it is important for the UEFA Youth League. Our current ranking is our highest since 2012, but it's likely to drop next year as we're shedding a lot of points from five years ago (the year we got 5 wins and a draw from the first round of the Europa League)

Larnaca 2 up away to Sturm

Now Minsk 4-0 Zenit. Incredible score, even if you don't factor in the Derry scoreline

Graz v Larnaka suspended because the linesman was hit by a missile from the crowd

And Trencin 4-0 Feyernoord is another unexpected scoreline too.

I see Feyenoord beaten 4 nil as well.

TNS 1-0 down against Midtylland of Denmark after ten minutes. Could be a long night there.

Rangers 1-0 up against Maribor too

Decent start from Cork, but if they get a chance they need to take it.

Classic Europe - Cork doing all the pressing; Rosenborg score their first real chance.

Not sure how he's scored from there tbh.

Awful feet from the keeper for that goal

TonyD

Poor from the full back and the goalkeeper. After having all the play Cork now have a bit of a mountain to climb.

They'll lose a second too if they're not careful.

Even when playing well, LOI clubs give up soft goals in Europe. Defensively, LOI teams are just not strong enough.

Positive showing from Cork so far though.

Horrendous goalkeeping from McNulty, absolutely dreadful. It's a shame as Cork started quite well, but I can't see Rosenborg being beaten now. Hope I'm wrong though.

Same again for Cork. Playing well and then concede.

Legia 0-1 Dudelange after 25 minutes.

That's Dudelange who couldn't knock out 10-man, First Division UCD a couple of years back (and still have 6 of the players)

ger121

Legia 1 down at home to Dudelange. Not a good night for the Polish sides. These sides Cork have faced are no great shakes.

1-1 now

Can't put the blame on anyone there, beautifully worked goal. I think that's game, set and match now. After a good start for Cork this could end up being a cricket score...

Cracking second. First goal changed things completely. Since then Cork are scrapping as best they can but Rosenborg are just more composed all over the pitch.

09/08/2018, 7:30 PM
Feel for Cork. Overall they’ve played well but the Rosenberg winger has looked the most dangerous player on the pitch. Hopefully they can at least pull a goal back in the second half and have something to play for over there.

Tie over and two poor goalkeeping errors. McNulty has been a class goalkeeper in the league this past few years, but that's brutal stuff after being the much better side in that half.

Keeper poor for both goals, looked like he thought the second was going wide.

CorribsideSteve

Proof of the pudding as to why we are mid 30's in the coefficient ranking. Year after year the same soft goals conceded with great ease.

Good spell for Cork in the last 15 minutes...just not enough threat up front.

pineapple stu
09/08/2018, 8:16 PM
And yet it's Rosenborg who really should have scored.

It's an interesting game; Cork can play a bit, but Rosenborg are way ahead of them when they want to be. Hard to equate that with Rosenborg v Dundalk and Sligo in the past few years.

Legia 1-2 Dudelange now. And Legia down to ten.

With Sean Maguire, you'd have fancied Cork to do something in Europe. There's just no high quality striker there. Cummins just isn't the kind of player you want in European action.

CorribsideSteve
09/08/2018, 8:36 PM
Cork wouldn't score in a month of Sundays but came close as soon as Sadlier came on. They noticeably wet up a gear. He should have started. Great fans, decent atmosphere, Lovely Stadium, ordinary team.

So assuming Cork don't turn this around in the away leg, that's 3 European wins out of 8 for Caulfield. Linfield, Levadia and Hacken.

We've seen - was it one of the Polish clubs? - sack the manager for European failure, aware of how important European money is.

Is it time for Cork to look beyond Caulfield, league form notwithstanding?

I think so if they want to evolve as a team.

Who are they going to bring in?

There have been some underwhelming performances (away in Iceland in particular), but I don't think tonight was one - a better team just played better football and won fairly comfortably.

Getting anything would be punching above their weight, and I don't think a manager should go for failing to do that.

Caulfield's style of football works well in the league, which is how he's got them competing for the title despite Dundalk being a superior footballing side. European football though is a different ball game, and he seems to lack a Plan B. There was no noticeable difference in their play tonight after going behind. They persisted with the same game plan despite the fact that it was clearly not working. I think Caulfield is out of his depth managing in Europe.
