anyone got any idea when the leagues are kicking off? i presume the week after the delaney cup. what are the opening fixtures?

most leagues back weekend of the 18th/19th of august. Probably just premier teams back in tsdl though that weekend and other divisions to follow the following week. Rumours of a couple of clubs folding so might be no rush getting lower divisions back up and running.

With Tipp Senior hurlers out on the 19th, I'd say alot of people are hoping Tommy Lewis fixes the 1st round of fixtures on the Saturday evening beforehand

I heard tonight that clonmel town can't actually afford Richie Kennedy. They have had to go outside the club and get an individual to help pay him. He is supposed to be excellent and the players are raving about him. but if this is true that Town have gone outside with a begging bowl, it's a worrying sign. Plus who have they signed???. As a town supporter it's a worry

you dont sound like much of a town supporter using terms like begging bowl about them. all costs are drain on a club. If a club played two home league matches in a weekend would cost as much as any trainer. would you come on here saying then that they have the begging bowl out to pay the refs i dont think so. as for signings were not going to hear about it on here, tsdl news been very quiet on foot.ie lately. few weeks back it was said alright that adam mcsherry and paul shanahan had signed. If true two very good players who have played in munster junior cup finals and other big games with town in the past

Ok maybe the term begging bowl is a bit ott but from what I here, there is a lot of concern in the club about finances and players. The board of directors didn't want Richie Kennedy but where only convinced when they got assurance that a third party would foot the bill. Im not hearing good things that's all.

If someone else is footing the bill then brilliant news for Town, get all the benefits of a great trainer and don't have to fund it, where's the problem??

The problem is that a club like town get used to outside benefit and get lazy with ideas for raising their own finances.when outside resources stop you look for trouble.the league will need to invest in clubs soon as few will fold.
I don't know how clubs are paying expenses to players and still have the poor mouth.as for Caesar and the league clashing with the gaa August 19th i will be surprised to see a change.remember they have to have the league finished by march!some clubs out of everything by February.what about a break at xmas?no need for fixtures at that time.pointless sending refs to inspect pitches then call them off and still get paid.

Paddy will be worth at least 20 goals to ballypatrick at his ease if he has signed. Too good for that level though, should be playing premier. If not getting game with celtic would be a big player for town, wildies or bridge. Surely one of those were on to him

Clonmel town beat ourselves this evening, but weren't too impressive to be honest, although that might have had somethin to do with our pitch!

Nevertheless I can see clonmel scalp for nenagh town in the next round

Thurles Town Vs Saints
Clonmel Town Vs Nenagh is the 2 semis. Looks like nenagh and saints final again this year

They were actually very impressive, played football throughout, always looking to play even in tight situations, Foggy runs the show for them and scored one of the goals as well, I haven't seen Nenagh Town but i would fancy Thurles Town to run them very close this year

Sunday 19th August with 4 Premier games. Sunday 26th shield fixtures in all divisions. Youth league starts 25th August. No word if all teams are returning a lot of talk about clubs in trouble both for funds and players. Affliation of €300 per team has to be paid by Monday 13th, so clubs will have to decide by then.

Have heard of good few teams on verge of folding. Alot are starting the season also and will have the bare 11 players. These clubs could get into trouble midway through the season also. just a sign of the times i suppose.

One positive though is that theres rumoured to be few extra youth teams this year. August 25th an early start for the youths, hopefully most of the rural teams can avoid gaa clashes etc and fufill their early fixtures.

looking forward to another season overall and best of luck to all clubs

At the moment still only 8 youth teams. Cullen have gone and Galbally are in, Bansha are on their own this season. Tipp Town are still trying to get a team but no luck yet, so still 4 in Div One and 4 Div 2. Even the €1000 grant from TSDL did not tempt teams to try and put teams in. even if 2 teams got together like Donohill and Bansha did last season. surly we can get more than 8 youth teams in South Tipp.

If Old Bridge have gone, surly the League will not leave the premier with only 7 teams. This Could mean Borris or Cahir having to move back in to Prem League to make div one 8 teams and Prem 8 Teams.

It would be shocking to see a big club with a history like Peake unable to enter a team in the Premier ... With reports that The Old Bridge are folding as well its a clear sign times are changing in the T.S.D.L , Even just to look back to last season when i saw the sad state my own club Town were in when they couldnt even field a team towards the end of the season , Its sad to see some teams in such a mess , hopefully they will sort it out before start of season

very sad for the club. great history in the 80s winning tipp cups, in the 90s munster youths cup and in recent years 3 division 1 league titles plus numerous cups and fai runs. I think enough is enough and tsdl must step in to save the club. I know there stuck for players and premier league is last place you want to be going in that situation but this club is nearly 40 years old . could they be placed in division 3 or 4 where they could thread water for a few seasons due to it being less demanding and maybe get in a few lesser players to bulk up numbers and stay afloat. at least then they would be competitive and not taking 8 or 9 nil drubbings week in week out in the premier which would probably leed to them folding mid season this year if they were to enter with the small numbers they have. hopefully this might lead to the club surviving for a few years and then a better decision could be made on the clubs future. Tsdl should do everything they can whether it be giving them a months grace to get house in order or provide financial assistance to help the bridge in a bid to keep them alive. Im sure no other club would object to this kind of aid to keep one of our oldest and most successfull clubs alive

We lost Rock Rovers last season , yet I heard no one saying the TSDL had to step in and save them, as a league the TSDL has to treat a new club like Tipp town the very same as a club that has been around for 30 or 40 years. I can tell you there are over 10 Clubs that are on the verge of folding if not this season then next, Players are not there and Money has dried up from fund raising, unless you have a strong Lotto going you are in trouble and there is only so many times you can hit the same people for funds. The league tried to bring in a rule to let only 1 team go in to prem to help out the yo yo teams , but all the lower league clubs voted it down, so as to the point that other clubs would not object, the other clubs are figthing their own battle to stay afloat and it's swim or drown I fear!!!

Unfortunately for the Old bridge one of their biggest problems was they had no home ground . As stated on their official statement on facebook today they lost green lane years ago to the flood relief scheme which we all really knew anyway , but they were promised a pitch and facilities elsewhere which never happened. When a club at that level has no pitch or facilities it's very hard to attract players down. Its very sad to see the club fold, they have a great history within the T.S.D.L and had a brilliant youths team back in the day , They have produced some wonderful players down the years , it a sad day for local soccer ...

rightboy
05/08/2012, 8:17 AM
That's a real shame for old bridge , I had some great memories of green lane or maybe not so good it was a tough place to get a result , as for villa I do hope they can sort it out because these player mentioned and a few other have messed the club around for years (as well as town ) coming and going over the years , they have been no good for either club it might be a tough couple of years for villa but they have a good schoolboy structure and can survive and come back stronger in the long run , I know this sounds harsh but good riddance to bad rubbish !

how would people in south tipp feel about inviting nenagh town into the tsdl to go straight into the premier if some of these clubs are folding? they are regular winner's in north tipp lges and cups and are also munster junior finalist from last season and would surely be a great addition and i know alot of teams in north tipp would rather give them a walkover than play them. you could also look at nenagh celtic coming as they have been very successful in north tipp over the years but at the moment are probably not in the best place to make such a move. the tsdl is quickly becoming a farce im afraid to say.
