Losing finalists in 2001, Braga finally got their hands on the UEFA Regions' Cup trophy, with right-back José Fortunato winning a tight final against Leinster & Munster with a fine chip from the flank six minutes from time at the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos.
The No2 had been picked out in space as Dito's side poured forward, and wrong-footed Leinster & Munster goalkeeper Brendan O'Connell with a supremely composed finish. Braga had taken the lead through a no less impressive Pedro Nobre strike on 62 minutes, but their dogged opponents struck back soon after, David O'Sullivan pouncing on a loose ball after Ray Whelehan's free-kick was parried.
Crossbars rattled at both ends before the break. Leinster & Munster gave early warning of their threat on three minutes, with Laurence Dunne's strike unwittingly finding the frame of the goal via a deflection off defender Daniel Simões. Powerful and assured throughout this tournament, the Irish side made the early running, but nimble and enterprising Braga slowly gained a foothold.
O'Connell made the first save of the game, blocking with a foot after Diogo Leite threaded a ball through to João Silva in the box, while Luís Ribeiro forced the goalkeeper to make a diving stop with a menacing strike from outside the box. Yet it was Pedro Nobre who got the crowd on their feet. The fleet-footed winger weaved his way into the box on the left in first-half added time and was repelled once before returning with an even more dazzling display of skill, ghosting around two defenders and driving against the underside of the crossbar.
The interval came at a good time for Gerry Smith's side, whose attacking verve seemed to be returning before Braga struck just after the hour. As Irish players crowded to stop Pedro Nobre spinning into the box once more, the winger cut back on the edge of the area and squeezed a low shot past O'Connell's outstretched right hand.
Leinster & Munster responded six minutes later. Whelehan's fierce free-kick surprised Rui Vieira, who could only fend the ball out to O'Sullivan, who finished unerringly. Game on once more, José Ferreira fluffed his lines when Pedro Nobre planted the ball at his feet on the break, but the killer blow was struck on 84 minutes, when the ball was fed out wide to José Fortunato. The right-back sent in a glorious chip from the flank which dipped under the crossbar and in.

supposedly wayne fitz was out in cahir park at a meeting last nite, barnes and darren burns are defo goin out there, cudnt see it lasting, didnt they do this with lads from cork before? hey any idea who won the joe delaney cup or has it been played
they brought down 3 or 4 players from cork, season before last, think it was to try and have a good year in 2010 for there centenery year. few were decent but not exceptional a tricky winger, full back and the player manager was an alright player. the players they are being linked with now are all top players and would instantly make cahir far more competitive in the premier division. they definatly wouldnt be in a relegation battle if they add those carrick and ex town players mentioned in previous posts

Ya i remember they signed the cork lads and a cork manager i think. That really didnt work out for them one bit, i remember seeing them a sunday mornin in a pretty important relegation battle and a few of the cork lads were still drunk nearly. They just didnt have the interest or respect which was suprisin considerin the effort they would have puttin in to attend training.
It would be good to have them competing for titles, they were always a decent juvenile club. It doesnt add up that they are never challenging for the title.

Staying quiet because their is very little truth in most of it.
There was talk of Wayne going to Cahir how true it is I dont know, Fizzy hasnt played since last november and is the middle of a lengthy rehab, Minge is retiring I think he defo wouldnt go to Cahir park at 33 years of age and Alan is only back from Oz so I dont know in his case but up and until he left he was enjoying his football with Carrick.

Borris seem to be making some very shrewd signings,if they get all of the players they are been linked too they will be considerably stronger than last season, the league looks like it is going to be far more competitive and a lot more points will be dropped by the big 2

I wasnt knocking ya or anything just thought it might be a bad sign for Carrick if no one denied the rumours, but at this stage thats all they are is rumours,I personally cant see Minge retiring he still has plenty to offer any team,I know Coady was enjoying Carrick but he was very good friends with Smurf and Barnsey so maybe they are putting the squeeze on him to try a new challenge but even for Cahir to be mentioned with all these players shows there must be something going on behind the scenes.

I would be surprised if cahir went down the short term/ quick fix route as they did for the last two years pure disaster for them just look at other clubs who went that route over the years peake at youths/ junior level Cashel at youths didn't have a youth team for 5 years so it doesn't work longterm for club I mean if saints can do it over 75% of their 1st team squad came through their schoolboys I think Celtic have a decent level as do Cashel now so it's not a good idea for cahir , what do you think lads ? Am I being very naive or stupid?

A very hollow victory for Cahir in Joe Delaney. They should never have agreed to play in a final when fairly beaten in semi, they should have stayed out of it and let League sort out it's own mess.

Massive PR own goal, you would wonder what type of guys are running these clubs, anyone with half a brain would know you should avoid getting involved in this sort of thing, once they were beaten they should have stayed out of it,i mean what value do those medals have? On another note Cashel Town are being raided by Borris with Derek Hayes,Micky Coleman and Ross Doyle all rumoured to be on their way
derek hayes and ross doyle i dont think were really playing with cashel for the most of last season. mickey coleman is huge loss arguably cashels best player. 3 good signings that will greatly improve borris squad. next season is looking like the best premier division season in years if cahir and borris can get all these rumoured signings in

Pity the way Joe Delaney cup finished up cause it's a nice trophy to win , I think town will have to have a good luck at themselves I think league punished them over all the walkovers they have given over the last few years at youth level so I dont think u can blame cahir to much any other club would have diner same. As fir Cashel town Derek Hayes n Ross doyle didn't play much last year but I heard mickey Coleman on way to town with Colin Bargary looking to go back to saints , I'm not sure have they a manager I think they might struggle this year

mikey coleman would be better off going to town. i could see him fit straight in to there first 11 no problem. he would have far better chance of winning a medal with town than borris. if bargary goes to saints aswell cashel would be in serious trouble. Those 2 players and david slattery would be the difference from cashel finishing 4th or 5th again and being deep in a relegation battle

league make up could be held back till start of august id say. any new club looking to apply will have done so already this wont be the hold up its just there is no point releasing a list of teams in which division when this could all change due to some teams pulling out close to start of the season which may result in a rejig

jimmy hynes is a striker i think. you would often here of him banging in the goals against tsdl teams in mjc and fai games. havent heard of the other lad but he must be fairly decent aswell if town are in for him. some trek down from nenagh to clonmel for a game of ball
